Opis:
Reactive magnetron sputtering of austenitic stainless steel in nitrogen containing atmosphere was used to deposit coatings composed of S-phase. The process was conducted at constant temperature (200°C). The influence of total and partial nitrogen pressure on coating characteristics was investigated. It was observed that both total and nitrogen partial pressures have influence on coating composition and microstructure. Increasing nitrogen content in the S-phase coating can have a beneficial effect on its corrosion characteristics. It was also found that coatings deposited in the ambient of high nitrogen contents are composed of S-phase and the additional high-nitrogen phase, which is of crucial influence on mechanical properties of the coatings. It was also found that partial argon pressure can contribute to the changes in mechanical properties of the coatings.

Opis:
The aim of research was to define the influence treatment methods involving application of growth biostimulators and herbicide on the total yield of edible potato. The field research was conducted in 2015-2017 in the area of eastern Poland, in Lublin Voivodship. The experiments were performed in three replications using the randomized split-block method. Examined factors were: The examined factors included: I. factor – three early cultivars of edible potato (Owacja, Bellarosa, Vineta), II. factor – treatment methods involving application of growth biostimulators and herbicide: GreenOK-Universal Pro and Asahi SL as well as their combination with the Avatar 293 ZC herbicide. The highest total yield of tubers was obtained from object 4., where prior to sprouting, mechanical treatment was used, and after the final shaping of ridges and just before sprouting the Avatar 293 ZC herbicide was applied at a dose of 1.5 dm3 ha–1, and then after sprouting the GreenOK Universal-PRO was applied three times at doses: 0.10 dm3 ha–1 – full moon-end of seeding + 0.15 dm3 ha–1 – covering inter-rows + 0.15 dm3 ha–1 – formation of flower buds (an average of 41.8 t ha–1) and from the object 5., on which mechanical treatment was used to the seeding, and after the ultimate formation of furrows before seeding of potato plants, Avatar herbicide 293 was applied in a dose of 1.5 dm3 ha–1 (total yield amounted to, on average, 40.6 t ha–1). Potato cultivars cultivated in the experiment and meteorological conditions during the conducted tests also had a significant impact on the size of the total yield. Owacja noted the highest yields (an average of 41.4 t ha–1). The largest total yield was collected in 2016 (an average of 42.8 t ha–1). A significant influence of the experiment factors on the structure of large tuber yields was also found.
Celem badań było określenie wpływu metod pielęgnacji z zastosowaniem biostymulatorów wzrostu i herbicydu na plon ogólny bulw trzech odmian ziemniaka jadalnego. Badania polowe przeprowadzono w latach 2015-2017 w rejonie Polski wschodniej, w województwie lubelskim.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coatings were manufactured using the pulsed electron beam deposition (PED) technique. The presence of a PTFE structure was confirmed by means of Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FT-IR). The surface morphology and roughness were characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM). A pressure increase leads to a decrease in the material transport from the target to the substrate. The water contact angle (WCA) and surface free energy (SFE) were examined. The hydrophobic properties were preserved after film deposition.
Cienkie powłoki z politetrafluoroetylenu (PTFE) wytwarzano metodą pulsacyjnej ablacji elektronowej (PED) z zastosowaniem zmiennego ciśnienia gazu roboczego. Techniką spektroskopii w podczerwieni z transformacją Fouriera (FT-IR) potwierdzono strukturę chemiczną osadzonej cienkiej warstwy. Za pomocą mikroskopii sił atomowych (AFM) oceniano morfologię i chropowatość otrzymanej powierzchni. Wyznaczono kąt zwilżania (WCA) i swobodną energię powierzchniową (SFE) powłok z PTFE. Stwierdzono, że zachowują one hydrofobowe właściwości politetrafluoroetylenu. Zwiększenie wartości zastosowanego w procesie ciśnienia wpłynęło na zmniejszenie grubości osadzanej warstwy PTFE w wyniku pogorszenia transportu materiału z targetu (tarczy) do podłoża.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of investigations of carbon doped austenitic stainless steel coatings (carbon S-phase) obtained by the reactive magnetron sputtering in the reactive atmosphere composed of argon and methane as a carbon source. Stainless steel targets were sputtered under different conditions. During the experiments the argon to methane proportion varied within a range 11/2-7/6. The other parameters such as temperature, pressure, sputtering power, etc. were kept constant. The phase composition was determined using the X-ray diffraction. Electron probe microanalysis (energy dispersive spectroscopy and wavelength dispersive spectroscopy) and glow discharge optical emission spectrometry techniques were used to study element composition of the coatings. Microstructure was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. It was found that varying the methane volume in the reactive atmosphere, it is possible to control the lattice parameter of the carbon S-phase.

The aim of the research was to define the influence of treatment methods, with the use of growth biostimulators and herbicide on the yield structure of three varieties of edible potato. The series of field research was carried out in the years 2015-2017, in the region of eastern Poland, in Biała Podlaska municipality, in Lubelskie voivodship, on light, acidic soil. The experiment was constructed with the use of random sub-blocks method in three repetitions. The tested factors included: I. factor – three early edible potato varieties Owacja, Bellarosa, Vineta; II. factor – five methods of treatment of the field of potato crops with the use of growth biostimulators: GreenOk-Uniwersal Pro and Asahi SL and their combinations with Avatar 293 ZC herbicide. As a result of the conducted research it was found that the methods of treatment with the use of growth biostimulators and herbicide had a positive effect on the structure of potato tuber yields, compared to the standard object on which only mechanical care was applied. The highest weight percent of large tubers input (in fractions >51mm) was observed in case of experimental object 4. (in case of which herbicide Avatar 293 ZC and GreenOK Universal-PRO preparation were applied) as well as experimental object 3 (post applying biostimulator Asahi SL). Varieties cultivated in the experiment had a significant impact also on the structure of potato crops. An impact of weather conditions on the structure of potato tubers was further noted. Based on the conducted experiment, it can be concluded that the growth biostimulators, as well as their combination with herbicide, positively influenced the quality parameters of potato tubers. Therefore, these preparations should find wider application in agricultural practice.

Opis:
One of the dramatic effects of global warming is the retreat of glaciers. This phenomenon has intensified in the last two decades. Postglacial areas are quickly colonised by various groups of organisms. Auto- and heterotrophic microorganisms play an especially vital role in these processes. They thrive in shallow glacial lagoons which often form in front of retreating glaciers. These reservoirs are characterised by high dynamics of physicochemical parameters, including: salinity, temperature and concentrations of organic compounds and nutrients. The conducted microbiological studies have revealed rich structural and functional diversity of bacteria occurring in the ecosystem of Ecology Lagoon situated on King George Island. Bacteria found on the surface of algae and stones in the shore zone of the lagoon showed particularly intense metabolic activity. A molecular analysis has indicated that unique taxonomic groups of bacteria occur in the ecosystem of Ecology Lagoon.

Opis:
This review compiles the current knowledge on the effects of prostanoids - arachidonic acid metabolites - on their own synthesis, activity and degradation. Interaction mechanisms between the receptors for the relevant compounds are presented, in particular with regard to the cooperation between a thromboxane A2 and prostaglandin I2 receptors. The questions of desensitization and internalization of receptors are discussed. The stages of the inflammatory response and tumor progression are analyzed against the background of the disruption of the synthesis of prostanoids. Special attention is given to the significance of 15-deoxy-Δ12,14-prostaglandin J2 in the regulation of the synthesis of prostanoids and its role as an anti-inflammatory agent. Ultimately, therapeutic approaches as used in various treatments are discussed in the light of the available knowledge.

The purpose of the study was to determine the relation between overtime, job strain and life style, and cardiovascular risk (CVR) in 97 managers and 98 physical workers. CVR was measured with the Framingham method. Information about job strain, overtime, life style and extra-occupational activities was obtained with a self-administered questionnaire. The results showed that both groups had a similar, medium-level job stress. Being a manager and having extra-occupational activities (self-education) were significantly related with CVR (p = .000, p = .035, respectively), whereas other factors that were analysed (i.e., physical work and overtime) were not. The managers were older than the physical workers; that may be why the factor of being a manager was significantly related to CVR. The extra-occupational activities connected with improving workersʼ skills may play an important role in the development of workersʼ overload and an increase in CVR.

Opis:
In this paper the physical properties of two types of Co-doped ZnO nanostructures: tetrapods and nanofibers grown by a rapid thermal evaporation process and prepared by the electrospinning technique, respectively, were investigated and analyzed. Surface morphology of the samples was examined using scanning electron microscopy. X-ray diffraction measurements showed hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure of both types of investigated nanostructures. Both X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering data confirmed high phase purity of the samples. The magnetic properties studied with the use of the SQUID magnetometer confirmed a presence of ferromagnetic order in analyzed nanostructures. The observed photoluminescence spectra exhibited two groups of lines. The first one, in the ultraviolet spectral range, is due to the optical transitions close to ZnO band gap, the second one in the red region is most probably related to the $Co^{2+}$ d-d internal transitions. The influence of native defects on the optical properties is also shown and discussed. All results reported here lead us to the conclusion that in the mixed crystal nanostructures obtained, a fraction of the $Zn^{2+}$ ions is substituted by $Co^{2+}$ ions.

Opis:
Immunosuppressive therapy is necessary to prevent transplant rejection, also in the case of pregnant transplant recipients, which means that the medications may influence foetal development. An ideal immunosuppressive regimen should provide for excellent immunosuppression with minimal or no side effects. Yet, current immunosuppressive therapy regimens commonly used in clinical applications fail to meet this criterion. One of the complications caused by immunosuppressive drugs are mineralisation disorders in hard tissues. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the impact of three regimens of immunosuppressive therapy used after renal transplantation, containing medications which are indicated (prednisone, cyclosporine A (CsA), tacrolimus (Tc)) and contraindicated (mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), everolimus) during pregnancy on the concentrations of essential minerals, calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P) and magnesium (Mg), affecting normal bone formation. The samples were analysed using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES, ICAP 7400 Duo, Thermo Scientific) equipped with a concentric nebuliser and a cyclonic spray chamber. The immunosuppressive regimens under study had no effect on the levels of Mg and P, but they did contribute to increased bone Ca levels in the mothers in the group receiving Tc, MMF and prednisone and group receiving CsA, everolimus and prednisone. In the offspring of tested mother rats, immunosuppressive therapies may affect Mg levels in hard tissues. The immunosuppressive regimens administered at therapeutic doses are harmful to rat foetuses as evidenced by the small number or lack of offspring in the tested groups.
