Opis:
The article presents the concept of using an artificial neural network to approximate the parameters describing the vehicle braking process, from the point of view of the application of this method in the diagnostics of the braking system. The artificial neural network of non-linear autoregression was used to approximate the dependence of the braking deceleration and the pressure in the braking system. The effectiveness of the neural network was checked depending on the number of neurons in its hidden layer and on the applied learning algorithm. The operation of the neural network was verified based on the actual braking processes of the Skoda Octavia, carried out with different dynamics, with different car weights and different tire inflation pressures. After verifying the neural network, it was used to approximate the braking deceleration values for the pressure values exceeding those present in the input data set. This action allows the analysis of the possibility of the vehicle obtaining a braking deceleration, which qualifies its braking system as efficient. Two concepts of using a neural network to solve this problem were analyzed. Conclusions related to the validity of the development of the discussed methods were drawn.
W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję wykorzystania sztucznej sieci neuronowej do aproksymacji parametrów opisujących proces hamowania pojazdu z punktu widzenia zastosowania tej metody w diagnostyce układu hamulcowego. Do aproksymacji zależności opóźnienia hamowania od ciśnienia w układzie hamulcowym wykorzystano sztuczną sieć neuronową nieliniowej autoregresji. Skuteczność sieci neuronowej sprawdzono w zależności od liczby neuronów w jej warstwie ukrytej oraz zastosowanego algorytmu uczenia. Działanie sieci neuronowej zostało zweryfikowane na podstawie rzeczywistych procesów hamowania Skody Octavii, realizowanych z różną dynamiką, przy różnych masach samochodów i różnych ciśnieniach w oponach. Po weryfikacji sieci neuronowej posłużono się nią do aproksymacji wartości opóźnienia hamowania dla wartości ciśnień przekraczających te występujące w zbiorze danych wejściowych. Działanie to pozwala na analizę możliwości uzyskania przez pojazd opóźnienia hamowania, co kwalifikuje jego układ hamulcowy jako sprawny. Przeanalizowano dwie koncepcje wykorzystania sieci neuronowej do rozwiązania tego problemu. Wyciągnięto wnioski związane z zasadnością rozwoju omawianych metod.

The road safety depends on many factors, including the efficiency of the technical system and the disposal of the driver of the vehicle. As wear of most of the vehicle assemblies threatened only with a breakdown, excessive wear of the braking system components may pose a risk of a traffic accident. The article presents a study on the quality of the brake fluid conductivity as a function of temperature and water content conducted for a selected group of vehicles. This group of vehicles was characterized by different production date and had a different of vehicle mileage. We presented the methodology of statistical analysis of the quality of brake fluid tests in selected 38 passenger vehicles in operation.

The paper describes systems responsible for driving safety of vehicles weighing up to 3.5 t. It is focused on selected failures (fouling) of braking systems that are typical during motor cars operation. Simulation testing regarding effect of selected failures (fouling) of braking system elements on braking force and braking efficiency were performed. In order to perform such testing, author of the paper worked out the methodology of testing which is also described here. The test results (partial) are displayed as tables and charts. The negative effect of selected failures on braking force and braking efficiency index is influencing directly on motor cars driving safety. It is also emphasized that it is important to maintain and observe automotive manufacturers’ technical requirements regarding braking system elements such as tyre pressure, tyre tread condition, brake shoes wear, etc. Basing on the test results it is found that excessive wear of tyres and brake shoes wear could be the reason of significant WSH index decrease resulting in faulty car. This can be visible through lower than allowable level of braking efficiency index WSH, which is the basic legal diagnostic parameter of break system condition assessment. Replacing such elements significantly improves braking efficiency index WSH.

A general characteristics of a car hydraulic braking system (CHBS) is presented in this publication. A graphical model of properties-component objects is developed for the above-mentioned system. Moreover, four mathematical models in terms of logic, the set theory and the Boolean algebra of Boolean functions are developed. The examination is ended with a general model of the CHBS for n - Boolean variables and the construction and mathematical-technical interpretation of this model is presented.

This article presents simulation models of trailer air brake systems in configurations without a valve and with a differential valve, thus demonstrating the rationale for using a valve to improve system performance. Simplified mathematical models using the lumped method for systems without and with a differential valve are presented. The proposed valve can have two states of operation depending on the configuration of relevant parameters. These parameters can include the length of the control pipe, the throughput between chambers in the control part of the valve and the forcing rise time. Based on the calculations, it was found that the differential valve with large control pipe lengths can reduce the response time of the actuator by 42.77% relative to the system without the valve. In the case of transition of the valve to the tracking action, this time increases only by 9.93%. A force rise time of 0.5 s causes the transition of the valve from the accelerating action to the tracking action, with 9.23% delay relative to the system without a valve. The calculations can be used in the preliminary assessment of the speed of operation of pneumatic braking systems and in the formulation of guidelines for the construction of a prototypical differential valve. In conclusion, it is suggested to use a mechatronic system enabling smooth adjustment of the flow rate between chambers of the control system of the differential valve.

The authors of this manuscript present the development of a braking system with friction material baseWC-Cu coating for the electric vehicle. This manuscript follows on from the original development of an AGV multi-disc braking system and an experimental investigation of the friction factor of WC-Cu coatings. In addition to developing the mechanical elements and construction of the electric vehicle, the tribological parameters of three samples of the steel substrate, the C45 with WC-Cu coating, were investigated in the tribological laboratory. A metallic coating of the WC-Cu base was applied on theC45 steel substrate using electro-spark deposition coating technology. The experiment used three samples with different percentage ratios of chemical elements in the coating structure. The tribometer working on a “Ball on Plate” principle was an investigation of the friction factor of all samples duringthe experiment. Subsequently, the surface of the samples was modified structure WC-Cu with laser technology. The microhardness of modified and unmodified coatings according to the Vickers methodology was investigated in the next stage. At the end of the experimental investigation, a braking simulation was created in the programming environment of the Matlab® software, considering all driving resistances. The researchers also focused on the simulation of heat conduction during braking for some considered driving modes with braking on a level and with a 20% slope roadway. The simulation of heat flow was carried out in the Matlab® programming environment using the Fourier partial differential equation for non-stationary heat conduction.

The paper deals with the proposal of new maintenance system of air brake system on a semitrailer combination. The structure of semi-trailer and the current maintenance system of trailers are described with focus on the basic air brake system design. Analysis of wear and damage of air brake system components used on the semi-trailer combination based on real experience from practice and creation of the FMECA analysis of the system using software support are presented. Based on the analysis performed, a new system of maintenance was designed which was aimed at reduction of the risk related to failure consequences. The proposed system uses RPN (risk priority number) values resulting from the proposed preventive maintenance system and is compared with the currentmaintenance system. Main objective was to reduce the impact of any failure in any component on the air brake system. On the basis of the analysis subsequently new methods of failures detection of air brake system components, preventive measures, and suggested new intervals of preventive maintenance for the air brake system are also proposed. Proposed intervals of preventive maintenance execution are based on the calculation of the total costs associated with the consequences of failuresthat may arise from them and compared with costs associated with service inspections carried out on the analysed semi-trailer fleet. The proposed maintenance system has decreased RPN values in comparison with the current system and in practical operation is expected to increase safety of semitrailer combinations, thus minimize probability of a failure in any component of the air brake system.

The study involved performing a numerical thermal analysis of selected components in a car braking system. The primary goal of the study was to determine the regions which are most susceptible to variations in temperature, and to determine the degree of thermal impact upon them. The analysis was performed using the Abaqus environment. The examined components of the braking system were made of materials reflecting mechanical properties of the real subassemblies. The FEM analysis enabled determination of the distribution of temperature in the system with respect to the properties of the investigated materials and applied boundary conditions.

A new non-linear method utilizing the work W of car deformation is considered in this study. The car deformation is defined as an algebraic function of deformation ratio Cs. The method of variable correlation is exploited in order to develop experimental data. To determinate mathematical model parameters, data from the NHTSA database including frontal crash tests are used. Such database is comprised of substantial number of crash cases and main focus was put on frontal impacts. In the non-linear method used so far, the so-called energetic approach, collisions are considered non-elastic. The speed threshold defining the elastic collision was set to be 11 km/h. This simplistic approach is used to determine the linear relation of energy loss during deformation on deformation coefficient Cs. Deformation points C1-C6 are taken into account while calculating a mean value that defines this coefficient. A more accurate non-linear method as well as more complex form of deformation coefficient is suggested to determine the work of deformation in this paper. The focus of those methods is to establish the value of nonlinear coefficient b_k which is the slope factor of precrash velocity Vt and deformation ratio Cs function.

The paper considers some theoretical and practical problems associated with the use of traction motor are operating in the generator mode (in braking). Mathematical and graphical relationships of electrodynamic braking, taking into account the requirements raised to braking systems in rail transport are presented. The latter include discontinuity of braking process, braking force regulation, depending on the locomotive speed, mass, type of railway and other parameters. Schematic diagrams of the locomotive braking and ways of controlling the braking force by varying electric circuit parameters are presented. The authors suggested contact-free regulation method of braking resistor for controlling braking force in rheostatic braking, and resistor parameters regulate with pulse regulation mode by semiconductor devices, such as new electrical components for rolling stock - IGBT transistors operating in the key mode. Presenting energy savings power systems, which are using regenerative braking-returning energy and diesel engine or any form of hybrid traction vehicles systems, circuit diagrams, electrical parameters curves.

The article is devoted to the description of practical experience in testing the alternating current electric machines. The results of combining thecapabilities of digital systems for collecting and processing information with a powerful electromechanical system are presented. Itis the combination of two systems of different purposes that enables creating the state-of-the art diagnostic installations combined into one electro-mechatronic system. Practical results of electric machine tests contain clear explanations of fundamental principles and provide acomprehensive assessment of the conditionof electric machines. They use methods of direct charging the electric machines with the possibility of recuperation of electric energy during tests. Thermal state of electrical machine nodes is monitoredusing the thermal forecasting technologies. Both the methods for various types of tests and means for their implementation are described in detail. This article is intended for engineers involved in designing, manufacturing and testing the electric machines.

Too low an operating speed of trailer air braking systems may lead to an inhibition of the braking asynchrony of agricultural tractor trailer units. Improved braking dynamics advanced braking systems with an electronic control unit (e.g. Trailer EBS) provide a more rational solution for high speed agricultural vehicles. In this paper, an overview of other methods for developing the dynamic properties of air braking systems for agricultural trailers is described. This paper provides an examples of braking system design parameters optimization, using a variety of accelerating valves and dynamic properties correcting devises, also as well, by using simple systems with an electronic controllers. The described methods of dynamic properties improvements can be used to improve the speed and operation synchrony of the air braking systems of low-speed agricultural trailers. The paper presents the influence of some of the described methods, with different levels of complexity, on the properties of typical air braking systems.

The design dimensions of the executive hydraulic cylinders of the brake system of heavy-duty mining dump trucks cause high fluid flow during the braking process. Therefore, dimensions of the anti-blocking system modulator spool pair require unique electromagnets or hydraulic amplifiers to control. These solutions do not allow the required modulator performance. Thus, a modulator scheme with a division of the flow of fluid from the source to the brake cylinders was developed. This scheme allows during emergency braking passing, an additional amount of fluid to cylinders through the valve, installed parallel to the main valve upon pressure increase phase and controlled by the pressure difference. The task is to develop a method for calculating the main structural dimensions of a modulator. The calculation of the valve of the second cascade, installed in parallel to the main stage, is carried out for the emergency braking mode with the maximum flow rate to ensure the required performance of the braking system. The balance of fluid flows equations is compiled at the key points. The flow rate of the fluid through each of the valves is determined by the Torricelli formula, and the pressure difference across the valves is assuned equal. The obtained relations allows building a family of Q-p curves, which can be used to select the diameter and stroke of the additional valve depending on the flow rate in the brake system.
