    Opis:
    The issues related to forest protection in international law are dispersed in several regulations regarding various aspects of environmental protection. The existing state shows that these acts primarily introduce instruments for protection of the main objective of the conventions. The forest protection is treated as an accessory aspect. This applies i.a. to the Convention on Biological Diversity and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. In this situation, although forest protection is an issue that is part of global problems, it does not find legal international protection that would guarantee sustainable use of forest complexes, and thus safe implementation of functions performed by the forest.
    Problematyka dotycząca ochrony lasów w prawie międzynarodowym jest rozproszona w kilku regulacjach dotyczących różnych aspektów ochrony środowiska. Istniejący stan pokazuje, że akty te wprowadzają przede wszystkim instrumenty ochrony zasadniczego celu konwencji, natomiast ochrona lasów jest traktowana akcesoryjnie. Dotyczy to zarówno konwencji o różnorodności biologicznej, jak również ramowej konwencji narodów zjednoczonych w sprawie zmian klimatu. W tej sytuacji, chociaż ochrona lasów stanowi zagadnienie należące do problemów globalnych, nie znajduje ono prawnomiędzynarodowej ochrony, która gwarantowałaby zrównoważone użytkowanie kompleksów leśnych, a przez to bezpieczne realizowanie funkcji pełnionych przez las.

    In April 2005, 2 sets by 3 stacks containing Norway spruce logs were exposed in sunny and shaded place within the forest. In each set logs in 2 stacks were sprayed with Ca(OH)2 aquatic dilution with the addition of milk and vegetable oil (1 stack as a whole, and 1 individually – log by log), and 1 left for control. At the end of June 9 insect species infesting the logs were found, among which the most frequent were Hylurgops palliatus (Gyll.) – 41,1% and Pityogenes chalcographus (L.) – 35,6%. The treated logs were less (sometimes – significantly) infested by the most frequently occurring species, but the difference between two variants of treatment was not very high. The logs exposed in sunny place were less infested than those stocked under stand canopy. As this environmentally friendly treatment reduced the infestation of logs by bark beetles (including I. typographus), it can be recommended especially for mountain areas under protection regime.

    The paper presents the issue of protection against the negative effects of noise by means of timber noise barrier. Timber noise barriers are described with regard to the types of construction of the acoustic panel, technical solutions, materials and processing method. Advantages and disadvantages of timber noise barriers, and the range of application are also discussed in the article.
    W artykule poruszona została problematyka ochrony przed hałasem przy wykorzystaniu drewnianych ekranów akustycznych. W szczegółowy sposób opisano drewniane ekrany akustyczne, uwzględniając ich podział w zależności od konstrukcji panelu akustycznego, technologię wykonania oraz stosowane materiały i sposób ich obróbki. Przedyskutowano wady i zalety drewnianych ekranów akustycznych oraz możliwości ich lokalizowania w różnych warunkach terenowych.

    Opis:
    The structure and productive potential of selection−managed stands in Slovakia are very differentiated. They depend first of all on species composition and soil conditions. On the basis of recent research, including the present study, three groups of selection stands have been distinguished on the basis of their productive potential. Spruce stands managed under selection system with an optimum standing volume of 300−350 m3/hectare and target breast height diameter of 60 cm occur on poor soils (rankers) performing mainly protective functions. The spruce and spruce−fir stands managed under selection system with an optimum standing volume of over 450 m3/hectares and target dbh of 60−70 cm are typical for most of the selection stands in Slovakia. The multi−species selection stands with dominant fir, and fir stands with an optimum volume of 450 m3/hectares and target dbh of 74 cm are characteristic for the orographic Volovské vrchy region.
