    In 2017, 5276 people committed suicide in Poland, while suicide attempts were reported by at least 50-75 thousand people in Poland. Mourning for a close deceased each year affects 100,000 members of our society. Suicidal behavior causes numerous changes in the functioning of families. A significant part of these changes brings conflicts and deconstruction of families. This is confirmed by research conducted among 146 students of Poznań universities who have experienced suicide of a family member.

    Opis:
    This report deals with the possible causes of suicidal death, which is often caused by psychoactive substances. It is not about the impact that damages individual human organs, but about the action that causes changes in an individual’s psyche. Drugs that are taken for various reasons for a long time can cause dependence on them, and sometimes they also lead to the appearance of suicidal thoughts. The author, concerned about the situation of the increasing number of suicides in our country within the last two years, decided to write an article. Mainly, it is targeted at people who often do not realize the possibility of addiction to drugs, the so-called afterburners, alcohol or other psychological means of self-destruction. The case described in the article is aimed at making people aware that addictions take place in different environments, and that individuals with well-being can take their own lives for reasons only known to them. In order to prevent, or at least significantly reduce the number of cases associated with the intake of psychoactive substances, which may also contribute to taking one’s own life, preventive measures are necessary. One should make adults (mainly parents) aware of their unconscious impact on the emergence of addictions to toxic agents on both the physical and mental health of emotionally immature juveniles. The young generation may not see alternatives to a distant future, and it is the duty of those who are responsible for them to show them the sense in continuing their existence.

    Depresja i zachowania suicydalne dzieci i młodzieży współcześnie stają się problemem codziennym. Liczne statystyki i badania wskazują, że problem ten zaczyna przybierać wymiar globalny. Złożoność i wielowymiarowość czynników jako uwarunkowań depresji i zachowań suicydalnych wymaga dokładnego przeanalizowania oraz projektowania i realizowania właściwej i skutecznej profilaktyki. Na podstawie schematu opracowanego przez Srikalę Bharatha i Tejasa S. Golhara w niniejszym artykule omówiono działania interwencji profilaktycznych odnoszące się do czterech poziomów: promocji zdrowia psychicznego, profilaktyki uniwersalnej, profilaktyki selektywnej oraz profilaktyki wskazującej. Każdy z tych poziomów strategii profilaktycznych został zaopatrzony w propozycje działań, zmian i udoskonaleń. Jest to ważny materiał, mogący posłużyć do opracowania przez różne podmioty strategii profilaktyczno-interwencyjno-pomocowych w zakresie depresji i zachowań suicydalnych dzieci i młodzieży. W zakończeniu przedstawiono autorskie wnioski dla praktyki pedagogicznej.
    Depression and suicidal behavior of children and adolescents appear nowadays to become an everyday problem. Numerous statistics-fed researches and studies indicate that this problem is currently being considered to take on a global dimension. The complexity and multidimensionality of factors, recognized as potential determinants of depression and suicidal behavior require careful analysis and design, as well as implementation of proper and effective prophylaxis. Based on the scheme developed by Srikala Bharath and Tejas S. Golhar, the article discusses the activities of preventive interventions relating to four levels: mental health promotion, universal prophylaxis, selective prophylaxis, and indicated prophylaxis. Each of these levels of preventive strategies has been provided with proposals for actions, changes and improvements. It constitutes an important material for the development of prevention, intervention and support strategies by various entities in the field of depression and suicidal behavior of children and adolescents. At the end, original conclusions for pedagogical practice were presented.

    W polskim społeczeństwie już samo słowo „samobójstwo” wywołuje wiele skrajnych emocji, takich jak strach, niepewność, ale również wrogość, a nawet niechęć i zażenowanie. Czasami są to smutek i żal. Większość ludzi woli unikać tego tematu i żyć w złudnym przekonaniu, że problem ten dotyczy tylko niewielkiej części populacji. Zjawisko to jednak istnieje i w coraz większym stopniu dotyka wszystkie grupy społeczne i wiekowe, w tym także osoby starsze, które teoretycznie powinny cieszyć się życiem i w pełni z niego korzystać. Zachowania suicydalne wśród seniorów na przestrzeni ostatnich lat stają się coraz większym problemem, który z roku na rok systematycznie przybiera na sile, co wyraźnie potwierdza zwiększająca się liczba przypadków prób i skutecznych zamachów samobójczych dokonywanych przez osoby starsze. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie skali zjawiska samobójstw wśród reprezentantów grupy wiekowej powyżej 65. roku życia, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ogólnego zarysu problematyki zjawiska, jego etiologii i symptomatologii. W zakończeniu szczegółowo zaprezentowano modele oddziaływań prewencyjnych, które uwzględniając czynniki społeczne, psychologiczne, psychiatryczne i kryminologiczno-wiktymologiczne, mogą skutecznie wpłynąć na wydatne ograniczenie występowania zjawiska w omawianej grupie społecznej.
    In Polish society, the very word “suicide” evokes many extreme emotions in people, such as fear, uncertainty, but also hostility, and even reluctance and embarrassment. Sometimes it is sadness and regret. Most people prefer to avoid this topic and live under the illusion that this problem affects only a small part of the population. However, this phenomenon exists and affects all social and age groups to an increasing extent, including the elderly, who theoretically should enjoy life to the fullest. Suicidal behavior among seniors in recent years has become a growing problem, which systematically grows stronger every year, which is clearly confirmed by the increasing number of attempts and successful suicide attacks carried out by the elderly. The aim of this article is to present the scale of the suicide phenomenon among representatives of the age group over 65, with particular emphasis on the general outline of the issue, its etiology and symptomatology. The conclusion presents in detail the models of preventive interventions that take into account social, psychological, psychiatric, criminological and victimological factors that can effectively reduce the occurrence of the phenomenon in the discussed social group.

    Wiarygodne dane statystyczne na temat różnych aspektów zachowań samobójczych (m.in. skali, struktury) są istotnym elementem społecznej diagnozy zjawiska oraz niezbędnym warunkiem do sprawowania, przynajmniej w ograniczonym zakresie, jego kontroli. W odniesieniu do zachowań samobójczych, podobnie jak i w przypadku, innych zjawisk dezorganizacji społecznej, (np. przemocy w rodzinie, bullyingu, prostytucji, korupcji, zaburzeń psychicznych), wiarygodność oficjalnych statystyk budzi poważne wątpliwości. W tekście, w oparciu o teoretyczne i metodologiczne założenia badania wskaźników zarejestrowanych zachowań dewiacyjnych proponowane przez J. Kitsusego i A. Cicourela, zostanie przedstawiona krytyczna analiza wiarygodności danych na temat samobójstw w Polsce, dostępnych w oficjalnie publikowanych statystykach. Zostały omówione następujące zagadnienia: źródła danych na temat zachowań samobójczych, błędy występujące w publikowanych danych (odnoszące się przede wszystkim do skali zjawiska), przyczyny występowania takiego stanu rzeczy oraz postulaty zmierzające do zwiększenia poprawności zbierania danych.
    Reliable statistics on different aspects of suicidal behavior such as the scale and structure for instance are an important element of social diagnosis of this phenomenon. Such statistics are also an indispensable condition of control (even if limited) over suicidal behavior. It appears that the reliability of all official statistics in relation to suicidal behavior similarly to other social disorders such as domestic violence, bullying or prostitution, corruption as well as the occurrence of some disease and mental disorders, raises serious doubts. In the text to follow which is based on theoretical and methodological assumptions based on the studies of registered data of deviant behaviors as suggested by J. Kitsuse and A. Cicourel there shall be revealed a critical analysis of the reliability of statistics concerning the problem of suicides in Poland available in the officially published statistics. The following issues shall be discussed: the sources of data concerning suicidal behavior, errors occurring in the published data (especially the scale of the phenomenon), the reasons of this and the potential solutions which could lead to increasing the correctness of collecting data.

    Depression, which is the main cause of suicidal behaviors, is becoming a serious social problem today, linked to approximately 90% of suicide cases. Current statistics and research indicate that the problem is escalating, affecting children, adolescents and adults. The complexity and multidimensionality of the determinants of depression and suicidal behavior require not only careful analysis, but, above all, the creation and implementation of effective prevention measures. The focus of the article, therefore, is on how to prevent depression and suicidal behavior in children and adolescents. On the basis of a careful review of current statistics and research on the subject, the paper offers original ideas on how to improve the existing preventive measures and lists some of the prevention programs which have been implemented in Poland and abroad. The effectiveness of these programs, as the author makes clear, depends on a variety of factors.
    Depresja, będąca głównym podłożem zachowań suicydalnych, współcześnie staje się problemem społecznym (około 90% przypadków samobójstw jest powiązanych z depresją). Aktualne statystyki i badania wskazują, że problem ten eskaluje, dotyczy zarówno dzieci i młodzieży, jak i osób dorosłych. Złożoność i wielowymiarowość czynników warunkujących depresję i zachowania suicydalne wymaga dokładnego przeanalizowania, a przede wszystkim skutecznej profilaktyki i jej realizowania. Kluczowe zagadnienie tekstu stanowi działanie profilaktyczne w zakresie depresji i zachowań suicydalnych dzieci i młodzieży. Opierając się na przeglądzie aktualnych (a zarazem ogólnych) statystyk i badań dotyczących tego problemu, przedstawiono autorskie propozycje zmian i udoskonaleń prowadzonej profilaktyki, a także propozycje wybranych programów profilaktyki depresji i zachowań suicydalnych dzieci i młodzieży realizowanych w Polsce oraz za granicą. Wskazano, że skuteczność tych programów zależy od wielu czynników.

    The article presents the part critical situations play in the etiology of adolescent and adult suicides, the importance of educational prevention and the role of school arising therefrom. It emphasizes the significance of chronic illness in terms of the crisis of an individual and environment. The actual lack of pedagogical truth is contemporary dissonance and “tragedy” of the human being – “enslaved by suffering”, chronically ill and powerless – which initiates self-destruction and, in consequence, inadequate and “surface” support. The communication of responsibility and of a self-model pattern is an important value in the area of the prevention of suicides.

    W literaturze przedmiotu samobójstwo rozpatrywane jest jako specyficzny fenomen społeczny - jedno z zachowań dewiacyjnych, będące jednocześnie wskaźnikiem dezintegracji społecznej. Z uwagi na to, iż skutki samobójstwa mają charakter społeczny, samobójstwo zaliczane jest do patologii społecznej, określanej jako choroba społeczna. Cel: Wskazanie, że samobójstwa są ważnym problemem społecznym, wykazującym tendencję wzrostową. Hipoteza: Wiek młodzieńczy jest okresem, w którym istnieje znaczne ryzyko podjęcia zamachu samobójczego. Metody: W opracowaniu wykorzystano metodę analizy i syntezy literatury fachowej, metodę monograficzno-opisową oraz analizę danych statystycznych. Wnioski: Analiza i synteza materiałów źródłowych pozwala stwierdzić, iż wśród dzieci poniżej 12 roku życia odnotowuje się niewiele zamachów samobójczych zakończonych zgonem. Inaczej jest w przypadku młodzieży w wieku 13-18 lat, u której pojawia się już poczucie własnej śmiertelności. Młodzież staje się zdolna, aby intelektualnie przyswoić fizjologiczne, metafizyczne, a także biologiczne aspekty śmierci. Implikacje dla teorii i praktyki: Dlatego też, zachowania suicydalne, rzadkie wśród dzieci oraz w okresie wczesnej adolescencji, stają się coraz bardziej rozpowszechnione wśród młodzieży. Ponadto, występowanie myśli samobójczych przed okresem dojrzewania koreluje z późniejszymi próbami samobójczymi, u młodzieży (częściej niż u dorosłych) dochodzi do ponawiania prób samobójczych. Oryginalność i wartość: W artykule podjęto próbę usystematyzowania determinantów zachowań suicydalnych wśród młodzieży oraz ukazania zamachu samobójczego jako problemu osobistego i społecznego, w kategorii zagrożeń.
    In the literature on the subject, suicide is considered as a specific social phenomenon - one of the deviant behaviors, which is also an indicator of social disintegration. Due to the fact that the effects of suicide are social, suicide is classified as a social pathology, referred to as a social disease. Objective: To indicate that suicide is an important social problem with an increasing trend. Hypothesis: Adolescence is a period when there is a significant risk of committing suicide. Methods: The study used the method of analysis and system of professional literature, the monographic and descriptive method and the analysis of statistical data. Conclusions: The analysis and synthesis of source materials allows us to conclude that there are few fatal suicide attempts among children under 12 years of age. It is different in the case of young people aged 13-18, who already have a sense of their own mortality. Adolescents become capable of intellectually assimilating the physiological, metaphysical, and also biological aspects of death. Implications for theory and practice: Therefore, suicidal behavior, which is rare among children and in early adolescence, is becoming more common among adolescents. In addition, the occurrence of suicidal thoughts before puberty correlates with later suicide attempts, in adolescents (more often than in adults) there are repeated suicide attempts. Originality and value: The article attempts to systematize the determinants of suicidal behavior among young people and to present a suicide attempt as a personal and social problem in the category of threats.

W jednostkach penitencjarnych prewencja suicydalna prowadzona jest w oparciu o szczegółową instrukcję w sprawie zapobiegania samobójstwom osób pozbawionych wolności. Artykuł stanowi omówienie poszczególnych zapisów wspomnianej instrukcji i sposobu ich realizowania oraz próbę przedstawienia podejmowanych oddziaływań i ich skutków w terminologii Analizy Transakcyjnej.
    Suicidal behaviors in society, regardless of their final result, are an important topic that requires many preventive actions. In specific conditions, such as the conditions of imprisonment, it is even more important to prevent and counteract the negative effects of isolation which may increase an already high risk of suicide. In penitentiary establishments, suicidal prevention is carried out on the basis of detailed instructions on the prevention of suicide of imprisoned persons. The article discusses individual provisions of the aforementioned instruction and the manner of their implementation. It is also an attempt to present the actions taken and their effects with the use of Transactional Analysis terminology.

    The phenomenon of suicide has been present in the history of humanity since the beginning of its existence. Suicidal acts were committed in every epoch and culture, but the scale of the phenomenon has been increasing with the development of civilisation. The aggravation of the problem has caused scholars to reflect on reasons for suicide and the nature of the suicidal act itself. Therefore, suicide is a subject of interest of various fields of study, including philosophy, theology, pedagogy, psychology, sociology and criminology. The article attempts to present the state of knowledge on the discussed issue from three perspectives. The authors present the problem of suicide in the context of selected philosophical currents, ethical systems and social motives by which people committing suicide are driven. Then the authors point at the philosophical conditioning which, in appropriate circumstances, is conducive to suicidal behaviour. The above mentioned issues are analysed on the basis of extensive epidemiological data.
    Zjawisko samobójstwa występuje w dziejach ludzkości od początków jego istnienia. Niezależnie od kultury czy epoki historycznej dokonywano aktów samobójczych, jednak skala tego zjawiska nasilała się wraz z rozwojem cywilizacyjnym. W związku z narastaniem problemu również w nauce podjęto refleksję na temat analizy przyczyn samobójstwa i samego aktu samobójczego. A zatem samobójstwo jest przedmiotem zainteresowania wielu dziedzin nauki, m.in.: filozofii, teologii, pedagogiki, psychologii, socjologii czy kryminologii. Artykuł jest próbą przedstawienia stanu wiedzy na temat omawianego zjawiska w trzech perspektywach. Autorzy przedstawiają problem samobójstwa w kontekście wybranych nurtów filozoficznych i systemów etycznych, jak również społecznych motywów, które kierują samobójcami. Następnie wskazują na uwarunkowania psychologiczne, które w odpowiednich okolicznościach sprzyjają zachowaniom samobójczym. Powyższe zagadnienia są analizowane na bazie obszernych danych epidemiologicznych.
