Opis:
Objectives The purpose of the current study was to explore the effects of a mobile health (mHealth) intervention based on the Persuasive System Design (PSD) model on health-related outcomes among office workers. Material and Methods The authors conducted a trial that consisted of a 4-week baseline and an 8-week intervention period by reference to 23 office workers in a private research company. The mHealth application was developed to improve these workers’ daily step count, decrease their sedentary time, and increase their sleep duration in accordance with the PSD model. The app features included at least 1 principal factor from each of the 4 main categories of the PSD model (primary task support, dialogue support, system credibility support, and social support). The objective health-related variables were measured using a smartwatch (Fitbit Luxe) that was synchronized with the application using the Fitbit Web Application Programming Interface. Subjects used the app, which included self-monitoring, personalized messages, education, and a competition system for users, during the intervention period. Results Sedentary time exhibited a significant decrease (a median reduction of 14 min/day, p < 0.05) during the intervention period. No significant differences in daily step count and sleep duration were observed between the baseline and intervention periods. Conclusions This study suggests that the mHealth intervention based on the PSD model was useful for reducing sedentary time among office workers. Given that many previous studies on this topic have not been based on any theories, future studies should investigate the impact of structured selection behavior change theories on health-related outcomes among office workers.

Opis:
Introduction. Leisure may provide certain unique subjective well-being (SWB) benefits that cannot be obtained through other domains in life, as leisure is typically characterized by autonomy or greater freedom of choice than other life dimensions. The objective of the present study was to analyse the level of SWB in male and female high school students with different health status preferring sedentary leisure time activities and compare SWB dimensions (SWB-Ds) between healthy students and students with self-reported health disorders (S-RHDs). Material and Methods. The research sample comprised of 153 male students (healthy; n=90 and with S-RHDs; n=63) and 238 female students (healthy; n=126 and with S-RHDs; n=112) who preferred sedentary types of leisure time activities. A standardized The Bern Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire for Adolescents (BFW) was used as a primary research method. Non-parametric Mann Whitney U-test was used to assess differences between two independent groups of male and female high school students according to their self-reported health status (healthy vs. with S-RHDs). Results. Significantly higher level of negative SWB-Ds was found in the group of male students with S-RHDs compare healthy male students (U=1672, p=0.000, r=0.34). No significant differences were found in the comparison between healthy female students and female students with S-RHDs. Conclusions. Many researches indicate a very close positive connection between regular participation in sport leisure activities and SWB, but just few of them investigate correlations and comparisons among SWB, health status and sport leisure activities participation.

Opis:
Objectives To estimate the prevalence of leisure-time physical inactivity (LTPI) and associated factors among healthcare workers. Material and Methods The cross-sectional study carried out with 2684 healthcare workers from 4 municipalities from the northeast region, Brazil. The LTPI was assessed by dichotomous question. The association between LTPI and the various independent variables was examined through the multinomial logistic regression analysis (crude and adjusted). Results The prevalence of LTPI was 47.9% (95% confidence interval (CI): 46.01–48.80). The adjusted analysis (sociodemographic and occupational characteristics) showed that women and individuals with higher levels of education were more LTPI (p = 0.05). Conclusions The prevalence of LTPI was high among the population investigated, especially among women and individuals with higher education. These results show the importance of developing actions to encourage adherence to physical activity during leisure time among workers, especially among the most vulnerable groups (people with higher education and women), given the benefits of this behavior to health.
Introduction: The way of spending time by people is significant for individual and social well-being. Disorders regarding proportion of time dedicated to various activities may result in definite detrimental consequences for physical as well as mental health. The aim of the study was to compare patterns of using time by students majoring in physical education taking into account their sex and level education – and to refer them to a sample of the national popula-tion of a similar age. Moreover, the authors decided to make an analysis aimed at finding dif-ferences between the real and the desirable time of the researched students’ various activities during 24 hours. Material and methods: The study involved 191 students majoring in physical education from the External Faculty of the University of Physical Education in Biała Podlaska studying in the 6th semester of bachelor studies and in the 2nd semester of master studies during the ac-ademic year 2016/2017. Their average age was 22.74 1.10. Their use of time was studied with an activity card, which was filled out by the researched every single day for a week. For the purpose of a comparative analysis there were obtained data about use of time in a national sample of persons at the age 20–24 published by the General Statistical Office in 2015. Results: The studying women and men constituted an almost homogenous group regarding time dedicated to particular activities during 24 hours. The level of education turned out to be a variable which significantly differentiated the researched regarding their time dedicated to: lectures, theoretical lessons, using means of transport, watching TV, surfing the Internet, social life and professional activity. The researched students, when compared with the national sam-ple, dedicated much more time to – among others – participation in sport and recreation, edu-cational activities, whereas they spend less time on professional activity and sleeping. Conclusions: Our findings point out that a comprehensive analysis of using time can help in diagnosing negative habits and contribute to working out practical guidelines being useful for planning activities and promoting health.
