    Opis:
    The aim of this paper is to assess the set of indicators developed by the authors within the framework of the project “Regional value chains in the context of biodiversity and ecosystem services − based on the example of Czech-Polish-Saxon research project collaboration”. The indicators can be used as a tool for evaluating the biodiversity performance of small and medium-sized food enterprises on a micro scale and for sustainability communicating in their value chains. After a short introduction and a literature review, the indicator set for agricultural businesses is presented. Based on qualitative surveys on selected farmers, this set was evaluated with the help of SWOT analysis elements. The survey results showed the weaknesses and strengths of the construction of the indicator set and also the opportunities and threats of its usage. Finally, recommendations for further research are presented, mostly connected with sustainability communication in regional value chains in food SMEs.
    Celem artykułu jest ocena zestawu wskaźników opracowanych przez autorów w ramach projektu „Regionalne łańcuchy wartości w kontekście bioróżnorodności i usług ekosystemowych − na przykładzie czesko-polsko-saksońskiej współpracy badawczej”. Zestaw wskaźników może być wykorzystywany jako narzędzie do oceny poziomu ochrony różnorodności biologicznej małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw sektora spożywczego w skali mikro oraz komunikowania zrównoważoności w ich łańcuchach wartości. Po wprowadzeniu i przeglądzie literatury przedstawiono zestaw wskaźników dla przedsiębiorstw rolnych. Na podstawie badań jakościowych wybranych rolników zestaw ten oceniono za pomocą elementów analizy SWOT. Wyniki badania wykazały wady i atuty konstrukcji zestawu wskaźników, a także szanse i zagrożenia związane z jego wykorzystaniem. W tekście przedstawiono zalecenia dotyczące dalszych badań, głównie związane z komunikacją zrównoważoności w regionalnych łańcuchach wartości w małych i średnich przedsiębiorstwach sektora spożywczego.

    Aim/purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyze regional trade integration of 10 Central and Eastern Europe countries (CEE-10) during the 2004-2018 period, identify regional- and country-level integration patterns and attribute them to potential causes indicated by the literature. Design/methodology/approach - The paper employed literature-based trade integration indicators to data on CEE-10 trade in goods and conducted a review of empirical studies investigating trade integration determinants in CEE. Findings - The results evidence an advancing regional trade integration with decreasing pace in recent years. The study has found all CEE countries to be more integrated with the region. Moreover, several integration patterns have been distinguished. Research implications/limitations - The study found a significant literature gap concerning CEE regional trade integration and its determinants. Its limitations refer to: lack of product-groups-level trade data and narrow scope of trade flows (in goods only). Originality/value/contribution - The paper's value-added stems from a multi-perspective analysis of the CEE regional trade integration and a discussion of region- and country-level integration patterns.

    The paper proposes new approaches to the implementation of regional strategies of border regions and territories of Ukraine. There were the following areas in which it is advisable to use and develop the conception and conceptual apparatus of the border area within the framework of the regional economy: an approach in which the border area is viewed as an area adjacent to a fixed front line that has a significant socio-economic impact on this territory; an approach in which the border is viewed not as a fixed line, but as a “frontal limit” of the influence of the state border on the adjacent territory. The following are proposed as possible approaches to the analysis and evaluation of regional competitive regions and territories: an approach based on the theory of regional reproduction, concepts of value chains, regional capital, and capitalization of the territory; approach based on categories of human capital, demographic potential, level of socio-economic development of the territory, level and quality of life of the population of the region; an approach based on the theory of bioregionalism, the concept of sustainable (environmentally balanced) development, the concepts of natural resource and ecological potential of the territory; an integrated approach based on the concept of “ecogeotrions”, which allows to assess the degree of balance between the three main components of regional competitiveness (economic, social and environmental).
