Opis:
Markers of intensity have been described differently in different works. This paper is based on Kleiber’s (2013) idea that intensity defined as the quantitative determination of the feature should be distinguished from intensity conceived as a feature in itself. This intensity-property is characteristic, according to Kleiber, of four groups of words: physical sensations, meteorological phenomena, feelings and actions. Combining the words belonging to these four groups with quantitative predicates (affaiblir, baisser, diminuer, faiblir, tomber), which introduce a negative polarity, shows that the selected predicates combine the easiest with words designating feelings and physical sensations, and the least with those which name actions. The connectivity of selected predicates can help reclassify the groups of words selected by Kleiber.

Opis:
In the past decades, many studies have proposed urban greening as a method to mitigate the rising temperatures in cities and urban heat islands. The cooling effect of urban green spaces can be divided into two components; cooling intensity and cooling extension. These two components are affected by different factors. This paper provides a review of research on the impact of urban greening on temperature and on the parameters that have an effect on that. Based on this review, two categories that have an effect on cooling intensity and cooling extension were identified: internal factors and external factors. These play an important role in the effectiveness of urban green spaces. As internal factors or indexes, the following were extracted; Size index, Shape index, Vegetation species and Tree canopy coverage are the most common indexes in most of the studies. The external factors can be divided into climate and surrounding properties. A discussion of the reviewed studies reflects the impact of each index on the cooling intensity and cooling extension. The existing methods and techniques for determining these indexes have also been considered in this paper. As such, this study is helpful for designers and planners for decision-making during the design phase.

Opis:
Under current Polish legislation, the valuation of real estate should take into account the results of energy performance certificates and indications of for potential improvement of this performance which are economically viable and technically achievable. The Polish market of energy certificates is young. However, there are energy-intensive data that can be included in property valuation in the absence of energy performance certificates, especially in the case of residential units. The article proposes a way to assess the multi-family building's and its individual units' energy performance on the basis of information such as the location of the unit in the building, the consumption of heating units, the unit's (its living room's) sun exposure. Based on the analysis of the local real estate market (selected homogeneous housing estate in Szczecin), statistically significant relationships between the transaction price of a flat and its pricing features were sought, in particular those characterizing the energy intensity parameters of flats and buildings. The research is devoted to the current and important problem of including energy values in property valuation, but first of all it is important to improve the awareness of buyers and real estate professionals about the costs of heat energy and their impact on sustainable development.

Opis:
The effect of angular structure differences between measured and best-fit analytical phase functions of the equivalent backscattering ratio on calculated reflectance values was studied and shown to be significant. We used a Monte Carlo radiative transfer code to check the effect of choosing different analytical (several Fournier- Forand (1994) and Henyey-Greenstein (1941)) phase functions with backscattering ratios identical to the ‘classical’ average Petzold function. We show that the additional variability of the resulting water leaving radiance is about 7% (4% between the Fournier-Forand functions themselves) for most scenarios. We also show a previously unknown maximum of the discrepancy (up to 10%) for highly scattering waters. We discuss the importance of relative differences in phase function for different angular ranges to this maximum and to the behaviour of the discrepancy as a function of solar zenith angle.

Opis:
We consider a generalization of the classical risk model when the premium intensity depends on the current surplus of an insurance company. All surplus is invested in the risky asset, the price of which follows a geometric Brownian motion. We get an exponential bound for the infinite-horizon ruin probability. To this end, we allow the surplus process to explode and investigate the question concerning the probability of explosion of the surplus process between claim arrivals.
