The scope of the paper is to introduce the solution for improving the risk management methods for seaports. First, the paper presents general information about ports and their main business scope. Next, we introduce the definition of critical infrastructure (CI) according to the EU directive, and we apply it to seaports. The paper also presents the basic concepts of dependencies and interdependencies and introduces a general classification of natural hazards and threats of influencing ports. Moreover, the multiple criteria decision analysis, particularly the application of the AHP method, is presented as the solution for improving seaports risk assessment based on scenarios. Finally, some examples of different approaches for risk assessment improving are presented.

The aim of the paper is to point out the principles of process management and selected quality management tools, which are aimed at improving the processes of the wood processing industries of the Slovak Republic. The knowledge from these areas is based on the analysis of the theoretical origins from domestic and foreign sources and supported by the results of the research carried out in the first half of the year 2017. In the processing of the results, classical methods of research work were used such as analysis, synthesis, comparison, descriptive statistics, contingency tables, chi-quadrat test and graphic depiction. Based on the analysis of the research results, there was a slight dependence between the process optimization levels in the timber industry and other process improvement methods such as statistical process control methods and graphical analysis and problem solving tools.

The aim of the article is to present the results of a case study focused on the implementation of the Six Sigma methodology in order to improve the quality and increase the efficiency of furniture production processes. Positive results of implementation after the implementation of corrective measures were achieved in the values of process capability coefficients, reduction of nonconformities and subsequent reduction of DPMO, increase of the values of the level of efficiency and sigma of the critical process.In the processing of the results, classical methods of research work were used such as analysis, synthesis, comparison, descriptive statistics, coefficients Cp a Cpk, DPMO, level of efficienty and sigma,and also graphic methods.

Scientific field of decision making process is extremely popular. Policymakers are increasingly aware of the potential mistakes associated with the process of decision making. Empirical studies show that despite huge knowledge of decision making process its quality has not improved significantly, both for the individual and the organization as a whole. Mistakes made by managers arise mainly from two sources: the treatment of decision as a domain of top managers and the lack of systematic monitoring and analysis of decision making process in the organization. The main objective of this paper is to identify and critically analyze methods (tools, guidelines and approaches) of improving decision making process.

W gospodarce opartej na wiedzy kluczowym zasobem organizacji są pracownicy wyposażeni w kompetencje, umożliwiające realizację zadań organizacyjnych. Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja uwarunkowań doskonalenia kompetencji pracowników w wieku 50 lat i więcej. Na podstawie przeglądu literatury oraz wyników badań 521 osób, zatrudnionych w dużych i średnich przedsiębiorstwach, zdiagnozowano poziom wiedzy i umiejętności oraz stosowane i preferowane metody doskonalenia kompetencji. Diagnoza ta dała podstawę do sformułowania rekomendacji dla potrzeb ZZL w zakresie doskonalenia kompetencji pracowników w wieku 50+.
In knowledge-based economy, employees equipped with competences allowing them to fulfil organisational tasks constitute a key resource. The objective of the paper is to identify the determinants of competence improvement of employees aged 50 plus. On the basis of literature review and studies encompassing 521 people employed in large and medium companies, the level of knowledge and skills, and applied and preferred methods of competence improvement were identified. The diagnosis offered the basis for the formulation of recommendations for HRM as regards competence improvement of 50+ employees.

Mining of longwalls ventilated by the „U” method is willingly applied in Polish coal-mines due to low costs of workings maintenance, low costs of ventilation and a lower fire threat because of a limited flow of air through goafs. However, such a way of ventilation may pose an increased risk of methane explosion. For this reason, the “U” ventilation has been limited in longwalls with methane risk. The mining regulations in force provide that ventilation methane-bearing capacity, i.e. the intensity of methane flow into the ventilation air cannot exceed 20 m3 CH4/min. The regulations also provide that in the event the absolute methane-bearing capacity, i.e. a sum of methane released to the ventilation air and captured by the methane drainage system is higher than 25 m3 CH4/min and the “U” method of ventilation is applied, the effectiveness of methane drainage should be minimum 50% in relation to the forecast absolute methane-bearing capacity. To streamline the process of ventilation near the junction of the longwall and the gallery carrying off the used air, auxiliary ventilation means are applied, such as a ventilation partition, a ventube – which supplies air without methane or with a low concentration of methane, injectors etc. Application of these means is limited by the cross-section of the heading carrying off the air from the longwall. Deformations of the ventilating roadway, which is usually located in the one-sided vicinity of goafs, may prevent the use of a ventilation partition, which has a negative influence on the conditions of ventilating the junction of the longwall and ventilating roadway. The author of the article also refers to such conditions, presenting average values and maximum concentrations of methane concentrations recorded with four methane concentration sensors, located in the vicinity of the junction of the longwall and ventilating roadway.

Aby w należyty sposób rozwiązać problemy związane z brakiem organizacji na poszczególnych miejscach pracy, niezbędne jest właściwe poznanie i rozszyfrowanie każdego z elementów Systemu 5S oraz wdrożenie.
The main purpose of introducing the 5S System was to increase productivity, better organize work on the assembly hall. Tidiness have a major impact on the stability of processes and the elimination of waste. The fact that it improves the safety of employees' work is also an added advantage. It teaches the discipline necessary to maintain standards. In order to properly solve the problems associated with the lack of organization on individual workplaces, it is necessary to properly learn and decipher each of the elements of the 5S System and implement them.

The aim of this study was to evaluate physical and energetic parameters of peat. Utility of the peat in horticulture and power generation were also estimated. Peat was mined from the Klejniki deposit, (Hajnówka municipality, Podlaskie province) in the north-eastern part of Poland. It was found that peat can be used for power generation, in the air-dry moisture condition. Peat parameters are similar to lignite. It can also be suitable for the production of horticultural substrates and incorporated into soil as a component for improving physical and chemical properties. The examined peat fulfills the requirements of for agricultural applications.

The article presents findings of a survey research carried out on a group of the deaf and the hard of hearing. The objective of the research was to evaluate the quality of public transport in urbanized areas in Poland, identify problems that the deaf and the hard of hearing face while using public transport, and to review a selection of solutions facilitating mobility of this group of people. The survey was conducted on a group of 71 persons, of whom 65% were women and 35% were men. The group surveyed was active professionally and socially, thus they used public transport daily or several times a week, which they confirmed in surveys. Most of them (65%) were persons with profound hearing loss (above 90 dB), 17% with severe hearing loss (71-90 dB), and 11% with moderate hearing loss (41-70 dB). Public transport and its accessibility for the given group in the urban area where they live was assessed as very good by 8% - 17% of the surveyed, good: 23% - 46%, sufficient: 13% - 25%, bad: 13% - 25%, very bad: 3% - 28%. The results presented on the assessment of public transport by the deaf and the hard of hearing indicate that accessibility of public transport in Poland for this group of passengers is on a sufficient level. The assessment of public transport in Poland, performed in the survey, allowed the identification of vital problems the deaf and the hard of hearing face when they use the infrastructure and means of public transport. The article presented a selection of technical solutions used in public transport vehicles in Germany, Austria, Great Britain, France, Poland and Czech. The following aspects were in the focus of this paper: information displayed at stations and train platforms; the passenger information system in vehicles; spots at railway stations where the deaf may obtain help connected with their journey; applications that enable planning a journey. These solutions aim at facilitating travel for the deaf and the hard of hearing.

It is common to find the inexpensive but robust electric power rectification method to lullil the demands of clean power conversion [1-12]. The Vienna rectifier structure [1] is one of the hopeful construction to fulfil these demands. It may be classified as the Clean Power Converter. It lets us obtain PFC rectification in simpler than the PWM converter system. The \ inina rectifier has three control points. In addition the Vienna rectifier is the three voltage level system with less current ripples than in the case of the PWM converter. However, it has some disadvantages. The Vienna rectifier system is an unidirectional converter. It can function onlv in the rectifier mode, the working in the inverter mode is impossible and the generation of the reactive power is strongly restricted. Usually the Vienna rectifier is controlled on the basis of the direct current control method [4,5,6]. However, this method is not perfect because it lets the improper control sequences appears. In this paper the mathematical model of the Vienna rectifier is derived. The voltage space vectors and their dependencies to the phase currents are denned. The range of the phase displacement angle and the maximum voltage space vector module v. phase displacement angle is drawn out for the case of the sinusoidal space vector modulation. The drawn out relations are proven by simulation results.

The paper covers basics of the vortex model used for propeller-stator systems. The outline of the design algorithm is given and the results of its application are shown. The designed propeller-stator system was the subject of model tests run at the CTO model basin and cavitation tunnel. Stator’s influence on the delivered power required by the propeller and its revolution rate has been examined by conducting self-propulsion tests with and without stator. The tests performed in the cavitation tunnel revealed only weak tip vortex cavitation on the propeller. No cavitation was observed on the stator at the design point. A wide range of the performed tests allowed the authors to identify details of the developed theory which will require further improvement.

The article presents the issues of improving professional competence of the manager, with particular attention to the essence of intercultural competence. The global economy, and thus the internationalization of the management, define new standards in the development of management skills. The modern manager is not only a specialist in organization and management, but above all “global mind”, which is flexible to cultural diversity.

We współczesnym podejściu do kompetencji zawodowych nauczyciela zaznacza się wyraźne odejście od modelu behawioralnego, zgodnie z którym kompetencje mają charakter instrumentalny i decydują o sprawności działania, na rzecz modelu humanistycznego i transgresyjnego, w których nauczyciel posiada zdolność kreowania swojej osobowości i swoich relacji ze światem zewnętrznym. Ze względu na specyfikę zawodu nauczyciela jego wiedza, umiejętności i postawy podlegają nieustannej weryfikacji i wymagają doskonalenia. W niniejszym opracowaniu przedstawiono wyniki badań sondażowych nad zaangażowaniem nauczycieli edukacji wczesnoszkolnej w doskonalenie ich własnych, zawodowych kompetencji.
In the modern approach to the professional competence of a teacher we mark a clear departure from the behavioral model, where the competences are instrumental and determine the efficiency of actions, to the humanistic and transgressive models, according to which the teacher has the ability to create their personality and their relations with the outside world. Due to the nature of the teaching profession, teacher’s knowledge, skills and attitudes are subject to constant verification and hence require improvement. The following study presents the results of survey researches on the involvement of early school education teachers in improving their own professional competence.
