Gender stereotypes in kindergarden childrenThe aim of the research was to investigate the understanding of gender stereotypes among children aged 5–7. The questionnaire developed by Szmigielska (2009) was administered to thirty girls and twenty nine boys. It contains descriptions of gender-related psychological characteristics, everyday activities, professions, objects, and appearance. The results demonstrate that gender stereotypes shared by children concern mainly activities connected with a gender role. In the case of other tested variables, they were not regarded by children as gender-specific. The understanding of gender stereotypes among girls and boys did not exhibit any significant differences.

The concept of gender role stress is based on the assumption that some women and men might have problems adapting to the feminine and masculine gender roles imposed on them by society. 1515 people took part in the study to verify feminine and masculine gender role stress models in the Polish population. The studies show that the five-factor feminine and masculine stress models are justified. Men display higher stress connected with 'physical inadequacy' than women, whereas women score higher on other subscales associated with feminine and masculine gender role stress. Gender role stress is more connected with femininity. Personality correlates of gender role stress were sought.

The article presents an analysis of the concept of gender and gender stereotypes. The difference between the concepts of gender and sex category is analyzed. The generally accepted international regulatory legal act on gender equality in the military are covered, and special attention is paid to the consideration of the main aspects of the national legislation in the aforementioned course.
Artykuł przedstawia analizę pojęcia płci i stereotypów płciowych. Analizowana jest różnica między pojęciami gender i płci biologicznej. Analizowane są również ogólnie przyjęte międzynarodowe akty prawne dotyczące równości płci w wojsku, a szczególną uwagę zwraca się na uwzględnienie głównych aspektów ustawodawstwa krajowego w wyżej wymienionym kierunku.

Gender, education, role taking and care-based moral developmentIn her analysis of moral reasoning C. Gilligan (1892) has indentified two moral orientations: first, the morality of justice, which is more representative of men’s ethical judgements and the the ethic of care, which is more representtive of women’s ethical judgments. The purpose of this study was to examine the links among gender, education, marriage and parental roles and care-based moral reasoning. The participants were 71 women and 51 men. They ranged in age from 20 to 83 years. The Ethic of Care Interview (Skoe, 1993) was used to assess level of moral reasoning. I found no significant outcome differences between women’s and men’s adult levels of moral development. No significant relationships were found between marriage and parental roles and care-based moral reasoning. For women, education was correlated with moral development. There were significant differences in moral development between female students and women with secondary and high education.There were no significant findings for men.

This study examined the relationship among sports participation, self-perception and gender role orientation of adolescent female students in Kwara State. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. 240 respondents were sampled from public secondary schools in Kwara State through simple random sampling technique; eight (8) public secondary schools were selected. Stratified and proportionate sampling techniques were used to select 20% of students by class. The research instrument was a self-structured close ended questionnaire. The data collection was conducted by the researcher and three (3) research assistants. Three null hypotheses were tested using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistic at 0.05 alpha level. The findings revealed no significant relationship between self-perception and sports participation, there was significant relationship between gender role orientation and sports participation. Also, there was significant relationship between social interaction and sports participation among the adolescent female students. The study recommends that the concept of sports should be promoted among the students while female students should be given equal opportunity in sports as their male counterpart. Also all students should be encouraged to participate in sports in order to promote social relationship with other students.

This study examined the relationship between gender role conflict and attitude towards psychological help-seeking. This study involved 120 university students from a university. Gender Role Conflict Scale was used to measure gender role conflict and Attitude towards Seeking Professional Psychological Help Scale-Short Form was used to measure attitude towards psychological help-seeking. The results found there is a significant negative relationship between gender role conflict and attitude towards seeking psychological help. The results suggest that it is essential for mental health professionals to recognise the impact of gender roles on the counselling process.

Recent research has revealed several developmental aspects of Machiavellianism. In this study, we explored the potential relationship between perceived parentification in the family of origin and Machiavellianism in adulthood. Three hundred and ninety five Hungarian adults (282 women) completed self-report measures of parentification and Machiavellianism. Results showed that emotional parentification and children’s unacknowledged efforts to contribute to the well-being of their families were associated with Machiavellianism - but only in men. Machiavellian tactics and worldview are proposed as possible coping mechanisms with the neglectful and unpredictable family environment. Gender differences in the results are explained in terms of gender role socialization and men’s and women’s different susceptibility for different forms of psychopathology.

Objectives: This current study investigates the relationship between the endorsement of masculine and feminine gender role orientation in accordance with Bem’s indices and both personal resources and coping with stress. Materials and Methods: The Bem Sex Role Inventory, the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, the Life Orientation Scale-Revised, the General Self-Efficacy Scale and the Personal Competence Scale were completed by 308 employees of a city transport company (123 females and 185 males). Results: Results reveal that androgynous individuals, masculine women and masculine men, possess stronger psychological resources compared with undifferentiated and feminine individuals. Moreover, satisfaction with life, femininity, the sense of personal competence and optimism are significant predictors of coping (in descending order of influence). Masculinity is a significant positive predictor only in problem-oriented coping. Conclusions: These findings may have implications for the conservation of personal resources as well as for stress management interventions.

For ages have people connected a family to a happiness of an individual. As well a contemporary person, facing various economical, social and cultural transformations, according to surveys, puts a family on the top of their values. However, many feminists authors are suspicious of family they understand traditional family and mainly maternity as a source of women’s oppression. We will present (without detailed analysis) three dominant feminist trends and their attitudes to family. In this context we will situate the most influential feminist trend in the western academic world: the post-structural feminism. We will present its reflexion of family and gender agenda, inspired by this movement. At the end we will indicate critical note to it.

The text describes the question of gender roles individualisation and their redefinition in relation to the notion of family. The analysis focuses on a new vision of fatherhood, i.e. a model that allows male care and sensitivity, which translates into active and committed child care (“caring masculinity”). The article is the analysis of selected Internet blogs and portals edited by men – source that will serve as material for reflection on both the condition of the father in contemporary Poland and dilemmas related to this.

Critical gender studies indicate the dysfunctionality of the traditional masculinity model, both in the emotional and health spheres. However, the implementation of the non-traditional model by men enables a deeper involvement in fatherhood, emotional development and partnership (instead of domination). Numerous studies indicate that men take on non-traditional gender roles because of the assessment of others, not just their own beliefs. The aim of the present study among young Polish men (N = 351) was to verify their evaluation of the traditional and non-traditional masculinity model. The assessment is expressed here through individual declarations, as well as an idea of the assessment given to a presented model by women and other men. The results indicate higher preferences of the non-traditional male model than the traditional one. Participants estimate that the non-traditional model is rated higher by women and traditional by other men. Awareness of women’s assessment (perceived reflected-appraisals) is a factor encouraging the imitation of a given masculinity model.
Krytyczne badania dotyczące płci wskazują na dysfunkcjonalność tradycyjnego modelu męskości, zarówno w sferze emocjonalnej, jak i zdrowotnej. Wdrożenie nietradycyjnego modelu przez mężczyzn umożliwia głębsze zaangażowanie w ojcostwo, rozwój emocjonalny i partnerstwo (zamiast dominacji). Liczne badania wskazują, że mężczyźni przyjmują nietradycyjne role płciowe z powodu oceny innych, a nie tylko własnych przekonań. Celem niniejszego badania wśród młodych polskich mężczyzn (N = 351) była weryfikacja ich oceny tradycyjnego i nietradycyjnego modelu męskości. Ocena jest tutaj wyrażana poprzez indywidualne deklaracje, a także świadomość oceny przedstawionego modelu przez kobiety i innych mężczyzn. Wyniki wskazują na wyższe preferencje nietradycyjnego modelu męskiego niż tradycyjnego. Uczestnicy oceniają, że nietradycyjny model jest oceniany wyżej przez kobiety, a tradycyjny przez innych mężczyzn. Świadomość oceny kobiet jest czynnikiem zachęcającym do naśladowania danego modelu męskości.

Występowanie kulturze współczesnej egalitarnych schematów ról płciowych nie oznacza całkowitego wyparcia tradycyjnych wzorów kobiecości i męskości. Wielość występujących równolegle schematów ról płciowych może sprawić, że uczniowie klas III znajdujący się u schyłku okresu rozwojowego określanego mianem późnego dzieciństwa i stojący u progu adolescencji – okresu ważnego dla kształtowania stabilnej tożsamości, mogą być zdezorientowani, które ze znanych im wzorców męskości i kobiecości powinni urzeczywistniać w życiu. Celem zaprezentowanych badań było poznanie wartości osobistych preferowanych przez uczennice i uczniów klas trzecich szkół podstawowych. Problem główny zawarty został w pytaniu: Czy wśród uczniów i uczennic klas III szkoły podstawowej istnieją różnice międzypłciowe w zakresie preferowanych przez nich wartości osobowych? Posłużono się metodą sondażu diagnostycznego, narzędziem była  Lista Wartości Osobistych opracowana przez Z. Juczyńskiego. W badaniach wzięło udział 311 uczniów klas III z Małopolski. Wyniki badań częściowo potwierdziły postawioną hipotezę: Wśród uczniów i uczennic klas III szkoły podstawowej istnieją różnice międzypłciowe w zakresie preferowania tych wartości osobistych, które tradycyjnie uznawane są za typowe dla przedstawicieli ich płci.
The presence of egalitarian gender role models in contemporary culture does not mean that traditional models of femininity and masculinity have been completely superseded. The multitude of simultaneous gender role models may make third-grade pupils, who come out of late childhood and stand on the threshold of adolescence - a critical time for the formation of a stable identity, confused as to which of the known patterns of masculinity and femininity they should follow in their lives. The presented research aimed to explore personal values preferred by male and female pupils of the third grade of primary schools. The main problem was contained in the question: Are there gender differences among male and female pupils of the third grade of primary school in terms of their preferred personal values? The research used the method of a diagnostic survey; the tool was the Personal Values List developed by Z. Juczyński. Also, 311 third-grade pupils from the Lesser Poland region participated in the research. The analysis of the collected research material showed that in such categories as "love, friendship" and "kindness, gentleness", there was a statistically significant predominance of girls. At the same time, there was a predominance of boys in the area of "intelligence, sharpness of mind" and "wealth, property". The findings of this study partly confirmed the hypothesis: There are gender differences among pupils in primary school in the area of preference for those personal values that are traditionally considered typical for representatives of their sex.

Przedmiotem zainteresowania w artykule uczyniono proces socjalizacji współczesnych młodych kobiet żyjących w pojedynkę analizowany w perspektywie kształtowania się płci społeczno-kulturowej. Analizy wyników badań dokonano z uwzględnieniem założeń koncepcji ambiwalencji przekazów w socjalizacji kobiet autorstwa Bardwick i Douvan (1982). W części wprowadzającej – teoretycznej, omówione zostały główne założenia tej koncepcji. Zasadniczą część tekstu stanowi prezentacja ambiwalencji w procesie socjalizacji ról społecznych związanych z płcią roli jaką rozpoznano w doświadczeniach badanych kobiet. Opis obejmuje takie konteksty jak: rodzina, grupa rówieśnicza, edukacja na poziomie podstawowym, średnim i wyższym, praca zawodowa.
The topic of the article is the gender role socialization process of single women living in present time society. This process has been analyzed using gender perspective. Analysis of research data was performed based on Bardwick’s and Douvan’s concept of ambiguity in socialization of women. Main assumptions of this concept are presented at the beginning of the article. Fundamental part of this work is focused on ambiguity in socialization process, which were discovered among interviewed women. This ambiguity is described in several socialization contexts: family, peers, education on various levels (basic, high school, college, university), job.
