Crude oil processing associated with the impact on the environment. Refinery production processes are a source of emissions in virtually all environmental components. The article characterizes the sources of emissions by dividing them taking into account various criteria and escribes the regulatory and legal environment, addressing the problems of industrial emissions, taking into account current and forecast guidance at European and national level. Highlighted the various aspects related to the effects of legislation and its implementation, among which, indicated as the most important implementation costs in relation to the underlying operating costs.

Air pollution is a global problem. In Europe, ambient air quality remains poor in many areas, particularly in urban ones. Air pollutants have a significantly adverse effect on human health and ecosystems. They are the main cause of many serious illnesses and thus contribute to increased mortality. This paper analyzes the air pollutant emissions in the last four years (2018–2021) in the Upper Silesian Region, which has one of the worst air qualities in Poland and in Europe in general, and the emissions in the Lublin Region in eastern Poland, which is considered as a clean region. In each of the above-mentioned regions, the areas with the highest air pollutant emissions were specified i.e. the Upper Silesian Agglomeration and the Lublin Agglomeration. The emission data for the following pollutants: particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5), benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), sulfur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) have been compared. The obtained results were also compared with the estimated average emissions in Poland. It was indicated that in both agglomerations the exposure to air pollutants was on similar levels, which were several times higher than in the remaining parts of the considered regions and the average values for Poland in general. In the Silesian Agglomeration, the exposure to PM10 was over 5 times higher than the average national exposure. The exposure to PM2.5 was almost 6 times higher, the exposure to BaP was about 5 times higher, while the exposure to SOx and NOx was 16 and 10 times higher than the national average, respectively. This is reflected in the increased number of premature deaths and the number of years of life lost due to the exposure to air pollution. Therefore, the actions aimed at limiting air pollutant emissions are urgent in the above-indicated areas.

In this work, for use as a unified tool within the framework of ISO 50001, a methodology for rating assessment of the processing of emissions with global pollutants is proposed, which was developed by the authors and recommended for use by state documents of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is distinguished by the absence of not transparences elements. As the initial data, the actual background concentrations (according to WMO data), the annual ceiling of greenhouse gas emissions and the maximum permissible emissions of toxic compounds, information on the characteristics of emission sources are taken for the enterprise, and as operational constants, the global warming potentials of greenhouse gases (GWP100) and officially approved values of maximum permissible concentrations of toxic compounds (MPC). The method is based on the equation (presented here at annotation in a simplified form), which gives a numerical indicator (rating) R of the efficiency of a production facility in terms of hazardous emissions into the atmosphere, taking into account greenhouse gases and energy costs arising from their removal. Currently, the technique is adapted to the energy sector; for wider adaptation to various industries, a low-carbon rating program has been drawn up for boiler houses, thermal power plants and industrial enterprises. It also meets the needs of understanding and predicting possible deviations of emission parameters from the standardized indicators. Therefore, it can serve as a tool within the framework of ISO 50001, providing objective control over the choice of means to ensure compliance with the requirements for harmful components emissions including greenhouse gases in the design and modernization of production facilities. The developed program is embedded for Russian enterprises in the shell of the ‘1C: Enterprise’ platform – a software product for automating accounting and management at enterprises. The program can also be used in the software shell of the automated accounting of the activities of a particular organization in a one or the other country.

In the paper MEMS-type microsystems working in vacuum conditions are described. All the benefits and drawbacks of vacuum generated in microcavities are discussed. Different methods are used to produce vacuum in microcavity of MEMS. Some bonding techniques, sacrificial layer method or getter materials are presented. It is concluded that the best solution would be to invent some kind of vacuum micropump integrated with MEMS structure. Few types of already existing vacuum micropumps are shown, but they are not able to generate high vacuum. As the most promising candidate for miniaturization an orbitron pump was selected. The working principle and novel concepts of its construction are described. The most important part of the micropump, used for gas ionization, is a field-emission electron source. Results of a research on a lateral electron source with gold emissive layer for integration with a micropump are presented.

Generous information on the legislation and the responsibilities of local governments and plant administrators, in the issue of acoustic emission were presented. The main types of industrial noise source and results of noise control measurements in Poland were described. In the article also the valid methodology of noise measurement was shown. Authors also the requirements of noise level meters were described.

Temperatura jest jednym z bardziej znaczących parametrów mających wpływ na emisję lotnych związków organicznych (LZO). Europejska horyzontalna metoda badania emisji lotnych związków organicznych PN-EN 16516:2017 Wyroby budowlane – Ocena uwalniania substancji niebezpiecznych – Oznaczenie emisji do powietrza wnętrz zakłada standardowe warunki badania w temperaturze 23°C (+/- 1°C). Opisano w niej metody badania emisji LZO oparte na europejskim pokoju modelowym w znormalizowanych warunkach środowiskowych. Norma nie przewiduje kontroli wyrobów budowlanych mających kontakt z działaniem podwyższonej temperatury, np. stosowanych do konserwacji grzejników. W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono grupy wyrobów budowlanych, które są narażone na wpływ podwyższonej temperatury z grzejników konwekcyjnych i promieniujących, europejskie metody badania emisji LZO oraz modele predykcji emisji lotnych związków organicznych.

Laboratory and industrial studies have established the total impact of environmentally hazardous substances, taking into account the distance from the source of emissions and the specific consumption of explosives. With the help of physicochemical analysis and biological testing, the dependence of the change in the conditional indicator of damage to bioindicators with an increase in the distance from the source of emission and the specific annual consumption of explosives was revealed. A methodology for calculating the environmental assessment of the state of atmospheric air around the mine ventilation shaft has been developed. The exponential dependence of the influence of surface concentrations of environmentally hazardous substances on the damage of bioindicators at the cellular and organismic levels has been established, which makes it possible to assess the state of atmospheric air at industrial sites of iron ore mines. The proposed technology of sand drilling, which involves the use of emulsion explosives in mining ore deposits in chamber development systems will reduce emissions of environmentally hazardous substances into the atmosphere and increase the level of environmental safety of iron ore mines.

The Sukorejo Village is a mangrove ecotourism place on the coast of Gresik City and is also located in the Industrial Estate. The carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from industrial and residential activities in the Sukorejo Village affect the air quality in Gresik City. This study calculated the CO2 emissions from industrial and residential sources in Sukorejo Village, Gresik. In addition, it also estimated the ability of green open spaces in the Sukorejo Village to absorb the CO2 emissions. Calculation of the CO2 emissions from industrial sources requires the data on fuel and electricity consumption, while from residential sources requires the data on population, LPG and electricity consumption. Calculation of the CO2 emission absorption was based on the area of green open space in the Sukorejo Village, Gresik. The results of the study show that the CO2 emissions from industrial sources are 20,224.15 tons/year, while from residential sources are 2,164.63 tons/year. Green open space in the Sukorejo Village which consists of mangrove trees and shrubs is able to absorb the CO2 emissions of 129.19 tons/year. These results indicate that the vegetation in the green space is still not able to absorb the total CO2 emissions from industrial and residential sources. Therefore, it is necessary to add vegetation or private green open space to absorb all the CO2 emissions from industrial and residential sources. There are several scenarios of adding vegetation. Scenarios 1 to 4 require the addition of 1 type of plant that has a high absorption capacity of the CO2 emissions. In turn, scenario 5 requires the addition of several types of plants.

The environmental legislation in Ukraine is changing rapidly. These changes are related to the adaptation of Ukrainian laws to the requirements of the European Union. In this regard, the paper considers the unintentional production of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in the Odessa Industrial-and-Urban Agglomeration (next – Odessa agglomeration) in the context of new regulatory and legal requirements of Ukraine. In many countries around the world, the issue of pollution of environmental components by POPs has a large focus, because POPs pose a global threat to the environment and human health. The work aims to assess the main sources of unintentional production of POPs in the Odessa agglomeration during one year (2017), taking into account the new territorial features of the Odessa agglomeration. For the first time for Odessa agglomeration, the mass of POPs formed by main sources using the newest European methodological approach was calculated, sources of unintentional production of POPs on volumes of these substances were ranked, and their total mass of generation on the territory of Odessa agglomeration was calculated. The number of POPs molecules equivalent to 2,3,7,8-TСDD, which infiltrate into the air basin of the Odessa agglomeration, hence into the organisms of the agglomeration inhabitants, was calculated. The obtained results were compared with the allowable number per capita of the agglomeration, the relevant conclusions were drawn. Priority sources of unintentional production of POPs were identified, which allows taking appropriate preventive measures to reduce the scale of their generation.

The paper presents the calculation results of the concentration of particles suspended in the air, taking into account various geometric parameters of the emitter and especially its height and diameter on the given examples. The situations where the emitted pollution comes from low emitters characteristic for single-family households, and then also from emitters of industrial type as well as high chimney stacks characteristic for thermal power plants were considered. For the cases mentioned above, modelling of the geometric parameters of an open point source was performed. The visualisation of results, presented in isoline maps of PM10 dust concentrations, has enabled to conduct an analysis of differences in immission and dispersion of the particles suspended in the air within the diameter ten times larger than the height of the point source/emitter.

Microfluidic devices called lab-on-a-chips utilize two kinds of characterization of a biosample, which are based on spectrofluorimetric and spectrophotometric methodologies. Lab-on-a-chips are equipped with an optical instrumentation and a software system that allow detecting of the optical signals and their processing into spectral characteristics. In the paper, technology of lab-on-a-chip (cytometer microdevice) and miniature silicon-glass field-emission light source (FELS) is described. Electrons emitted from a silicon cathode covered with carbon nanotubes excite light emission from nanocrystalline rare earth doped yttrium oxide phosphor (anode). The emitted light can be precisely tailored to the main absorption line of a fluorescent marker. The presented system has been successfully used for testing of the cow embryos as well as fluorescent-marked porcine oocytes.

A lot of attention is nowadays devoted to the problem of generally defined ecology. It is absolutely essential in case of systems and sources generating heat due to their direct influence on the environment through emitting post-process products to the atmosphere which are, most frequently a result of combustion. Therefore, constant searchers are made to optimize the operation of heat sources and to acquire energy from sources for which the general balance of carbon dioxide emission is zero or close to zero. This work compares the emissions of equivalent CO2 from selected systems with the following heat sources: coal, gas furnace, heat pump, and refers results of the analysis to aspects connected with regulations concerning environmental protection. The systems generating thermal energy in the gas furnaces, coal, biomass, as well as the compression heat pumps with the lower heat source as ambient air or ground were taken under consideration, as well as centralized systems for the production of heat based on the combustion of coal, gas, oil, and biomass. the Emission of carbon dioxide for the installation of cogeneration and absorption heat pump were also calculated. Similarly obtained amount of extra emission necessary for the proper operation maintenance of heating devices via the supplied electricity from external source, the mostly fuel-fired power plants for fuels as previously mentioned. The results of the calculations were presented in tables and graphs.

Subject and purpose of work: The work concerns the reduction of greenhouse gas emission thanks to renewable energy sources (RES) utilized in selected municipalities of the Lubelskie Province. The aim of the study was to assess the consistency between the tasks provided in low-emission economy plans (LEEP) and the strategic documents on RES, especially biomass. The investment priorities of municipalities regarding RES and the impact of these investments on the emission of CO2 have been presented. Materials and methods: The analysis covered 8 LEEPs and programming documents: EU, national and regional ones concerning RES. Results: EU and Polish policy contribute to the development of RES, including biomass, under the condition that their negative effect on the environment, resulting especially from biomass burning, is limited. Municipalities intend mainly to use solar energy, yet the technologies of biomass they suggest are not always in line with new trends. Conclusions: Measures limiting the emission of greenhouse gases, including the use of RES, are provided in the analysed LEEPs. However, some municipalities intend to produce energy from biomass, mainly in the process of combustion. As this is not in line with the latest EU recommendations, such plans should then be verified.
Przedmiot i cel pracy: Praca dotyczy ograniczenia emisji gazów cieplarnianych poprzez wykorzystanie odnawialnych źródeł energii (OZE) w wybranych gminach województwa lubelskiego. Celem pracy była ocena spójności zadań zawartych w planach gospodarki niskoemisyjnej (PGN) z dokumentami strategicznymi dotyczącymi OZE, szczególnie biomasy. Przedstawione zostały priorytety inwestycyjne gmin, dotyczące OZE oraz wpływ tych inwestycji na emisję CO2. Materiały i metody: Analizie poddano 8 PGN oraz dokumenty programowe: unijne, krajowe i regionalne, dotyczące OZE. Wyniki: Polityka UE i Polski sprzyja rozwojowi OZE, w tym biomasy, pod warunkiem ograniczenia negatywnego wpływu na środowisko, szczególnie wskutek spalania biomasy. Gminy zamierzają wykorzystać głównie energię słoneczną, zaś proponowane technologie zastosowania biomasy nie zawsze są zgodne z nowymi trendami. Wnioski: W analizowanych PGN zawarte są działania ograniczające emisję gazów cieplarnianych, obejmujące wykorzystanie OZE. Część gmin zakłada produkcję energii z biomasy, głównie w procesie spalania, jednak ta technologia nie jest zgodna z najnowszymi zaleceniami UE i gminy powinny zweryfikować swoje zamierzenia.
