Opis:
The 21st century can be called a "century of reforms" in the Polish system of higher education and science. Each successive ruling party was looking for an opportunity to revise the way the Polish Academia was organized. Those reforms were aimed at changing the system of evaluation of higher education institutions (and the associated system of granting public subsidies thereto). But also they were targeting the list of scientific disciplines recognized and subsidized by the government. That was possible thanks to the fact that each piece of legislation on funding the Polish system of higher education was imparting power on the Minister of Higher Education to issue an executive act. Such discretionary decisions allow for influencing the way institutional science is organized in Poland. It is also a reason why in Poland "scientific lobbying" has arisen and various research coteries have been trying to promote their subfields to the rank of "discipline" by influencing the Ministry. This paper is an attempt at summing up the 21st-century debate over the shape and legal foundations of the institutional dimension of the realm of political science. It is also an attempt to provide evidence that in Poland it is not theory that is influencing the decisions of recognizing new disciplines that are arising from the field of political science, but rather the political (and lobbying) practice as well as discretionary decisions of the Ministry are shaping the development of theory.

This is the article about political issues in education. The aim of the text is to present the relations between politics and education. I try to find answer to question: what is the essence of politics of education? I claim that education is inherently political. Every dimension and form of educational practice are politically contested spaces. I try to show that politics in education is a very important part of democracy in education. Democracy is impossible without politics and politics is impossible without democracy. So, I focus on describing possible political areas in education. The paper presents results of these relations. I also try to convince the reader that it is possible (it is necessary) to create important, interesting thinking about education from political point of view.

A member of the generation of student revolt ’68, Alain Finkielkraut is thought to be one of the most prominent intellectuals in France, taking part in public debates on several issues essential for Europe and the world. His assays, articles and books may be read as a complex commentary with a sound humanistic background to the condition of western culture as well as to current socio-political events. Our article focuses on revealing theoretical grounding of Finkielkraut’s reflection in the philosophies of Emmanuel Lévinas and Hannah Arendt. We attempt to reconstruct the way Finkielkraut employs his critical apparatus built on their thought to the field of educational practices in order to present the specific perspective of educational research and to contribute to the knowledge produced by widely understood critical pedagogic.

The notion of a neutral, objective education is an oxymoron. Education and pedagogy do not exist outside of ideology, values and politics. Ethics, when it comes to education, demand an openness to the other, a willingnessto engage a “politics of possibility” through a continual critical engagement with texts, images, events and other registers of meaning as they are transformed into pedagogical practices both within and outside of the classroom. Education is never innocent: It is always implicated in relations of power and specific visions of the present and future. This suggests the need for educators to rethink the cultural and ideological baggage they bring to each educational encounter. It also highlights the necessity of making educators ethically and politically accountable for and self-reflective about the stories they produce, the claims they make upon public memory, and the images of the future they deem legitimate.

Opis:
Philosophy educationalists more and more often reflect on the problem of possible introduction of common philosophical education. So far, they have considered the basic difficulties to be related to content. After a highly unfavorable period in history (of the Second World War and ideological constraints of 1945–1989, which adds up to exactly half of a century: 1939–1989), it seemed that the fundamental task was to reconstruct theoretical foundations and create conventions for common philosophical education. A half-century break in the teaching of a subject is long enough to assume that basically everything has changed in this area (social reception of philosophy as a teaching subject, the concept of philosophical education and its content, basic methodology of teaching this subject in schools). That is why many attempts have been made to regenerate and adapt philosophical education in Polish schools to contemporary cultural and educational conditions. However, it appears that the basic difficulties are not the content-related ones. Apart from content-related factors, also social, cultural (worldview-related) and political ones are crucial. The question is whether philosophy educationalists, while trying to introduce the program of “philosophication” of the Polish education system, have to confront its political conditioning. Is philosophy (as it was in the inglorious Marxism) still a tool of ideological authorities? Why is it excluded from the education system? What is the role of belief in certain conspiracy theories (that philosophy teaches us to think and no authority needs a thinking society) in creating the image of philosophy in education? To what extent contemporary philosophy education is political?

Opis:
The study is a presentation - in an essayistic and exemplary approach - of the meandering history of multiculturalism and multinationalism in Poland. This history until 1918 is described in two dimensions - firstly, a rather peculiar and in fact harmful multiculturalism of rulers’ world (mostly foreign election kings and later aggressors) and, secondly, the developing, increasingly richer and introducing important values, multiculturalism of people. This is followed by an outline of the changes after 1918 (mostly the crisis of the multinational state), as well as after 1945 and 1989 - the birth of a national state in two different political systems. The recent years are the times of drifting apart from a pro-European (open to multiculturalism) state in favour of a state and a substantial part of the society which is increasingly less democratic and contests European and global problems. This constitutes the background for the discussed issues of multicultural education. What has been also considered is the (developed in Poland) concept and practice of intercultural education. Intercultural education seems to enhance in the best way the familiarization with and understanding of Others and, in consequence, the shaping of positive relations among people.

Many countries have had people in power who were mower-mad and hungry for money as their representatives. In the case of Poland, there is quiet acquiescence to unethical actions by the authorities for the sake of one's own benefits, and a commonly accepted aversion to politicians (Zalec, 2022). of all kinds, which may be linked to the country's history. Those in power have become usurpers who do not care about the rules, the constitution or EU law, nor are they afraid of any punishment. Those who oppose these precedents become enemies, murderers or are accused of spreading propaganda. The country is divided into two camps - those who support the current government and those who are against it. The consequences do not only affect individuals, they are sometimes extended to entire municipalities where the current ruling party has lost the election. Ignorance or lack of civic knowledge can cause some voters to ignore the fact/not realise that their passivity is nevertheless supporting the current government. Crucial to combating this phenomenon is reliable informal citizenship education, carried out in an ongoing, emotionally charged way, appealing to the positive sides of informed citizenship and not discouraging to politics. The value of democracy should be taught. People should become open to discussing democracy, and the media should also repeat such positive messages. It is also important to remember what has happened by now.

The article presents the concept of political education in Germany, specifically taking into consideration the role of the state in building democracy and open society. The context for consideration is the institutionalized model of school and non-school political education in Germany, which constitutes a part of the civic education system conducted by the state on the federal level and in the federal states. The state, through its institutions, is particularly responsible for the implementation of civic education. This paper also outlines the terminological problems in civic education from the Polish and German language perspective and the institutional and legal determinants used in political education. It should be noted, that the above-mentioned research problem is interdisciplinary, because it combines political, social and cultural elements and is characterized by the broad spectrum of interpretation and is multi-faceted, and the conclusions that can be drawn from its analysis (a substantial role of the state and financial support, an apolitical system of civic education, a high degree of institutionalization, presence and activity of the so-called “leading institutions”, a clear division of competences between the institutions responsible for political education, presence of political education in public debate, etc.) can prove to be useful in social studies or in the implementation of innovative system solutions in civic education.

The article traces the process of elaboration of education policies in women’s education in the Northwest of the Russian Empire by different agents of the imperial state on the central and local levels in the 1830s–1860s. The principal goal is not the history of education in a gendered perspective but rather the history of female social roles and national differences in this troubling imperial borderland. The ethnic and confessional markers of difference in the analysis aimed at producing a complex and dynamic picture of conjuncture of social, national, and gender discourses as well as idiosyncratic local considerations in contradictory efforts of imperial social engineering are complicated by the gender marker.
