    The article partially sums up the results of a translating project realized by a students’ science club. The aim of the project was to translate into German an interview with the caretaker of the synagogue in Łańcut. The interview deals with the history of the building and the history of the former Jewish community in Łańcut. Particularly problematic in the translation process were terms originating from Yiddish or Hebrew: realia, cultural artefacts, religious terms and some other exoticisms. Another barrier was connected with the ability to approach the text from the receiver’s perspective. The article discusses those and other difficulties involved in the process of translation and some possible ways of solving them.

    The paper aims at analysing the techniques used in the rendition of the names of supernatural, mythological, and fantastic creatures in the Italian translation of The Witcher saga by Andrzej Sapkowski. After presenting the role played by different classes of names in the creation of an imaginary world based on intertextual procedures, the author identifies eight recurring techniques: borrowing, calque, recognised translation, generalisation, normalisation, lexical recreation, substitution, and omission. The paper shows that though the translation of Sapkowski’s series combines a foreignising and domesticating approach, naturalisation prevails in the rendition of Slavic elements, supplying the reader with a more “international” setting derived from a wide use of replacements and hypernyms.

    Im Beitrag wird das Thema Schwarzer Humor, im englischsprachigen Raum als black humor bezeichnet, aus interkultureller Perspektive betrachtet: Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit den Besonderheiten des deutschen schwarzen Humors am Beispiel seiner thematischen Klassifikation. Die Thematik des deutschsprachigen schwarzen Humors wird in zwei große Gruppen unterteilt: universelle und kulturspezifische Themen. Darüber hinaus wird ein Versuch unternommen zu ermitteln, welche kulturspezifischen Elemente in den humoristischen Texten für die Humorgenerierung bei Deutschen bedeutend sind.
    The article sheds light on the topic of black humor from an intercultural perspective. The research deals with the peculiarities of German black humor on the basis of its thematic classification. The subject of German black humor is divided into two major groups: general and cultural-specific subjects. In addition, an attempt is being made to identify which cultural-specific elements in the humorous texts are important to humorous reproduction in Germans.

    Opis:
    The article examines ways of re-formation of the (German) middle class caused by the perception of social (and individual) crises (in our example over-indebtedness) and associated uncertainty. Which are the strategies that middle-class members develop to cope with those perceived crises and which factors contribute to the originating of new civic formations? In that context, we emphasize on the impact of culture-specific orientation patterns regarding specific societal groups. We refer to the work of Douglas and Wildavsky [1982] and Cornia, Dressel and Pfeil [2016] and concentrate on the collective dimension in asking, how does the middle class and parts of it like societal subgroups (in our example overindebted people) perceive and interpret social developments and crises (framing)? Which is the relationship between the middle class and institutional actors and the confidence they have in these actors, especially regarding the dealing with social crises and connected solutions? Who do middle-class members blame for the crises and the risks of social decline (blaming)? This is a central question directly connected with the way of dealing with risks and the assumption of responsibility.
    Artykuł przedstawia sposoby re-formacji (przekształcenia) klasy średniej w Niemczech, które zostały spowodowane przez postrzeganie społecznych (i indywidualnych) kryzysów (w prezentowanym przez nas przykładzie – nadmiernego zadłużenia) i związanej z nimi niepewności. Jakie są strategie, które rozwinęli członkowie klasy średniej, żeby poradzić sobie z postrzeganymi kryzysami i jakie czynniki przyczyniły się do powstania nowych form społecznych (obywatelskich)? W tym kontekście, podkreślamy wagę wpływu kulturowo-specyficznych wzorów orientacji w odniesieniu do specyficznych grup społecznych. Przywołujemy prace Douglas i Wildavsky’ego [1982], a także Cornia, Dressel i Pfeil [2016] i skupiamy się na zbiorowym wymiarze, kiedy stawiamy pytanie: Jak klasa średnia i jej części (podgrupy) – w naszym przykładzie osoby nadmiernie zadłużone – postrzegają i interpretują rozwój społeczny oraz kryzysy (ramowanie/framing)? Jaki jest związek pomiędzy klasą średnią oraz aktorami instytucjonalnymi w zakresie pokładanego w nich przez klasę średnią zaufania, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do radzenia sobie z kryzysami społecznymi i związanymi z tym stosowanymi rozwiązaniami? Kogo członkowie klasy średniej winią za te kryzysy i ryzyko społecznej degradacji (obwinianie/blaming)? Jest to centralne pytanie bezpośrednio związane ze sposobami radzenia sobie z ryzykiem i przyjmowanym założeniem o (kierunku) odpowiedzialności.

    Das Ziel dieses Beitrags ist die Analyse der Realienbezeichnungen, die in den deutschen Reisekatalogen enthalten sind. Als Grundlage der Untersuchung dienen die deutschen Reisekataloge ,,Chamäleon“ und „Gebeco“. Im Rahmen der Analyse werden Beispiele der Realienbezeichnungen aus den oben genannten Katalogen ausgewählt, dem entsprechenden Typ der Realienbezeichnung zugeordnet und anschließend besprochen. Der Schwerpunkt dieses Beitrags liegt ebenfalls auf den möglichen Wiedergabeverfahren der ausgewählten Realienbezeichnungen, die bei ihrer Übersetzung ins Polnische Translationsprobleme bereiten. Der Beitrag wird mit Schlussfolgerungen abgeschlossen, in denen darauf hingewiesen wird, wie wichtig für die korrekte Wiedergabe der Realienbezeichnungen das Verständnis des kulturellen Hintergrunds sowohl für die Ausgangs- als auch für die Zielsprache ist. In den Urlaubsangeboten, die in den Reisekatalogen enthalten sind, kommen landes- und kulturspezifische Bezeichnungen zu Orten in der ganzen Welt vor, die den Reiselustigen in großer Zahl zur Verfügung stehen. Man kann also feststellen, dass verschiedene Länder und Kulturen ständig neue kulturspezifische Wörter bzw. Ausdrücke mit sich bringen. Darum ist beim Lesen von Urlaubsangeboten ein bestimmtes Weltwissen erforderlich. Obwohl die Reiseinteressierten keine genauen Bedeutungen der kulturspezifischen Wörter kennen müssen, sollten sie eine allgemeine Vorstellung von den landestypischen fremden Begriffen haben. Darüber hinaus sind zumindest die Grundkenntnisse der englischen Sprache erforderlich, da in Reisekatalogen viele Anglizismen auftreten. Die Urlaubsangebote enthalten aber auch kurze englische Slogans, die meistens weder ins Deutsche noch in eine andere Sprache übersetzt werden. Manche Wörter, die weithin bekannt sind, wie z. B. pizza oder safari, bedürfen keiner Übersetzung oder zusätzlicher Explikation. Es gibt jedoch einige Ausdrücke, die von den meisten Lesern nicht verstanden werden, weil sie weniger gebräuchlich sind oder sehr spezifische, komplexe Bedeutungen verbergen. Daher werden in diesem Beitrag für solche Realien die bestmöglichen Übersetzungslösungen ins Polnische vorgeschlagen.
    The aim of this paper is to analyse culture-bound units that appear in German travel catalogues. The following German travel catalogues constitute the research material: “Chamäleon” and “Gebeco”. Selected examples of the culture-specific expressions from the above-mentioned catalogues are subjected to the analysis, assigned to the corresponding type and subsequently discussed. The paper focuses also on the methods of rendering techniques of the selected culture-bound units, which encounter translations problems while being translated into Polish. The paper’s conclusions point out the importance of cultural background understanding for both the source and the target language, in order to accurately render the culture-specific items. Country- and culture-specific foreign terms appearing in the travel offers refer to the places all over the world and are available in great numbers for people interested in excursions. It can thus be noticed that different countries and cultures constantly bring with them new culture-specific words or expressions. Hence, a certain world knowledge is required while reading holiday offers. Even though readers interested in travels do not need to know the exact meanings of the culture-specific expressions, they should have a general idea of country-specific foreign terms. Besides, at least a basic knowledge of the English language is indispensable, because the travel catalogues contain a plethora of Anglicisms. Tourist offers also contain short slogans in English, which are usually translated neither into German nor into the other language. Some words that are commonly used, such as pizza or safari, do not require translation or additional explication. However, there are some expressions that are not comprehensible for most of the readers because of the fact that they are less common or conceal very specific, complex meanings. Therefore, this paper aims to present the best potential translation solutions for such culture-specific expressions into Polish.

    The article deals with the issues of the role of multicultural/intercultural education in ensuring the cultural rights of the bearers of various traditions in the process of their interaction in an ethnically diverse human environment. The hypothesis of the publication is the following: multicultural/intercultural education forms (builds) a platform for the realization of cultural rights of representatives of various ethnic communities in the process of their interaction, preventing the violation of their rights. Clarifying the content of the concepts of multicultural education and intercultural education begins with exposing the content of the concepts of multiculturalism and interculturalism. The content of the concept of ethnic interaction as well as the structure of this phenomenon is presented. The etymology of multicultural/intercultural education and its contemporary value is discussed. The author concludes that the practice of multicultural/intercultural education in North American and European countries has proven its viability in forming a platform for ensuring equal opportunities for the realization of the cultural rights of the bearers of various ethnocultural traditions and ways of life, particularly in the educational process. It opens up opportunities for equal ethnic interaction at the level of minority groups and at the level of minorities and the majority – the mainstream of the country of residence – and helps to avoid violations of their rights thanks the exclusion of prejudices, getting to know each other better. As a result, opportunities for interaction in the plane of psychological perception replace the paradigm of opposition “we-they (strangers)” with the paradigm of compromise “we-they (others).” The prospects for the development of multicultural/intercultural education for Ukraine are analyzed in the context of conflict-free interethnic interaction.
    Artykuł porusza kwestie roli edukacji wielokulturowej/międzykulturowej w zapewnieniu praw kulturowych nosicieli różnych tradycji w procesie ich interakcji w etnicznie zróżnicowanym środowisku ludzkim. Hipoteza publikacji jest następująca: edukacja wielokulturowa/międzykulturowa tworzy (buduje) platformę dla realizacji praw kulturowych przedstawicieli różnych społeczności etnicznych w procesie ich interakcji, zapobiegając naruszaniu ich praw. Wyjaśnienie treści pojęć „edukacja wielokulturowa” i „edukacja międzykulturowa” rozpoczyna się od ujawnienia zawartości pojęć „wielokulturowość” i „międzykulturowość”. Przedstawiono treść pojęcia „interakcji etnicznej” oraz strukturę tego zjawiska. Omówiono etymologię edukacji wielokulturowej/międzykulturowej i jej współczesną wartość. Autor stwierdza, że praktyka edukacji wielokulturowej/międzykulturowej w krajach Ameryki Północnej i Europy dowiodła swojej przydatności w tworzeniu platformy zapewniającej równe szanse realizacji praw kulturowych nosicieli różnych tradycji etnokulturowych i sposobów życia, zwłaszcza w procesie edukacyjnym. Otwiera możliwości równych interakcji etnicznych na poziomie grup mniejszościowych oraz na poziomie mniejszości i większości – głównego nurtu kraju zamieszkania – i pomaga uniknąć naruszeń ich praw dzięki wykluczeniu uprzedzeń i lepszemu poznaniu się. W rezultacie możliwości interakcji na płaszczyźnie percepcji psychologicznej zastępują paradygmat opozycji „my-oni (obcy)” paradygmatem kompromisu „my-oni (inni)”. Perspektywy rozwoju edukacji wielokulturowej/międzykulturowej na Ukrainie są analizowane w kontekście bezkonfliktowej interakcji międzyetnicznej.
