    Opis:
    The novels of Jean Echenoz are particularly known for their playfulness with which they deconstruct the codes of the paraliterary genres, as well as for a casualness with which they approach the topos of the modernist novel. The production of this author of the last two decades nevertheless testifies of a new direction that slips in the biographical. Like many writers of his generation, Jean Echenoz deals in Jérôme Lindon (2001), Ravel (2006), Courir (2008) and Des éclairs (2010) with the lives of illustrious personalities of our era. We can wonder what the objective of this approach of a writer, who shows his admiration with regard to his characters, is. Is it a simple tribute or need to fill out gaps in history that we will never complete for lack of evidence to support? This paper also tries to deal with the problem of the genre of these texts that lie at the edge between fiction and factual literature.
    Powieści Jeana Echenoza słyną z ludycznego dekonstruowania kodów gatunków paraliterackich oraz ze swobody, z jaką autor traktuje topos powieści modernistycznej. Tymczasem twórczość pisarza z ostatnich dwóch dziesięcioleci świadczy o przesuwaniu się w nowym kierunku – w stronę biografizmu. W tekstach Jérôme Lindon (2001), Ravel (2006), Długodystansowiec (2008) i Błyskawice (2010), jak wielu innych pisarzy jego pokolenia, Echenoz pochyla się nad życiem słynnych postaci naszych czasów. Nasuwa się pytanie, jaki jest cel pisarza, który okazuje swoim postaciom podziw. Chodzi po prostu o złożenie hołdu czy też o wypełnianie białych plam historii, których nigdy nie zapełnimy z braku dostępnej wiedzy? Niniejszy artykuł porusza także kwestię cech gatunkowych tych tekstów, sytuujących się pomiędzy fikcją i literaturą faktu.

    The aim of the research is to verify in what way the onomastic devices found in the French novel L’enfant leopard [The Leopard Boy] (1999) by Daniel Picouly determine a potentially plural reception of the text referring to one’s historical, fictional, and rhetorical competence. Devoted primarily to the literary onomastics, the analysis focuses on identifying various contexts reused by the author of the novel and from which he draws the names of the characters and places of his fictional universe. Proper names can be understood as historical references which fulfil the function of authenticating the story, serve as referential anchoring of the narrative, and include intertextual references only a reader of deep literary awareness can grasp. And finally, proper names can be understood as imaginary onomaturgic constructions devised by the author, who employs linguistic and rhetorical strategies to achieve the ludic character of the text. The study reveals the story-building process and by following the onomastic traces, it captures the very method of literary creation adopted by the author.
    The novel by Daniel Picouly involves a considerable number of characters and, therefore, a wide range of anthroponyms, for many of which the author invites the reader to make inferences and to mobilise their encyclopedia of knowledge to identify the explicit or subtle historical reference within those names. Some of these names are immediately identifiable. For others, however, the reader's inference requires a more accurate search, which calls into question elaborate skills more easily found in a cultured reader than in a common reader. 
    Celem badań jest sprawdzenie, w jaki sposób onomastyczne narzędzia wykryte we francuskiej powieści L’enfant leopard [The Leopard Boy](1999) Daniela Picouly’ego determinują potencjalnie pluralistyczny odbiór tekstu odwołującego się do własnej kompetencji historycznej, fikcyjnej i retorycznej. Poświęcona przede wszystkim literackiej onomastyce analiza skupia się na identyfikacji różnych kontekstów ponownie użytych przez autora powieści, z których czerpie nazwiska postaci i miejsca swojego fikcyjnego uniwersum. Nazwy własne można rozumieć jako odniesienia historyczne, które pełnią funkcję uautentyczniającą opowieść – służą jako referencyjne zakotwiczenie narracji – i zawierają odniesienia intertekstualne, które może uchwycić jedynie czytelnik o głębokiej świadomości literackiej. Nazwy własne można także rozumieć jako wyimaginowane konstrukcje onomaturgiczne opracowane przez autora, który wykorzystuje strategie językowe i retoryczne, aby osiągnąć ludyczny charakter tekstu. Studium ujawnia proces budowania opowieści oraz tropiąc ślady onomastyczne, oddaje przyjętą przez autora metodę kreacji literackiej.

    Opis:
    On the basis of two indecidable texts (Thomas Clerc, “Paris, musée du XXIe siècle. Le dixième arrondissement”, Gallimard 2007 and Philippe Vasset, “Un livre blanc”, Fayard 2007), we will reflect on new approaches to the city in contemporary French litterature. Clerc and Vasset, in their respective texts, suggest considering litterature as a series of practices connected with the exploration of the city (Clerc) and of the urban area (Vasset) according to the idea of an arbitrary itinerary. The image of the city whose space, subject to a permanent process of museification, is constantly considered to be a work of art (Clerc) contrasts with a project of viewing the deserted areas of the city and of its surroundings as an infinite collection of “artistic installations” created in daily life (Vasset). Clerc’s and Vasset’s artistic mentality leads them to the fascination with “works of involuntary art”, both concrete signs and tangible proof of the transitional period which they try to describe systematically, following, at the same time, the principles of an axonometric city map.

    The conversation concerns the broadly-understood methodological background and substantive knowledge of the co-author of the highly praised biography of Jan Potocki, François Rosset. The researcher talks about the importance and usefulness of knowledge of the French eighteen-century novel, the Enlightenment ideas and artistic trends for the work on the biography of the author of The Manuscript found in Saragossa. Rosset also talks about archive research related to the work on this biography and about how he used his knowledge of editorial meanders of the famous novel while writing. The researcher emphasizes that the authors of biographies should keep a distance from the characters of their stories and that their main goal is to try to present the life cycle of a given person as comprehensively as possible, supporting it with sources.

    Der Band enthält die Abstracts ausschließlich in englischer Sprache
    14 is a recently published novel by a French contemporary writer, Jean Echenoz. Having the First World War as its core subject, the text covers the main traditional themes of war novels. Its interest, however, does not lie in what it says about the war, but rather in how the war is told. In fact, 14 points out the main horrors of the war, without engaging in pathos. In order to do so, Echenoz resorts to two groups of techniques, whose main purpose is to lighten the dramatic effect of the war scenes depicted. Surprisingly, the result is a text which recounts the crude horrors of war.
