Opis:: There is a need to implement high-efficiency solutions for groundwater treatment, especially in the context of manganese compounds removal. This study analyzed the impact of a water treatment plant modernization to a technology of fast contact filters with continuous bed rinsing. On the basis of basic indicators of water pollution, such as iron, manganese, turbidity, color, and nitrogen compounds, the raw water collected from the groundwater intake and the water treated after the filtration process were characterized. A comparison of the efficiency of water treatment installation before and after modernization indicated that there was a significant improvement in the quality of treated water, especially in terms of manganese removal.

Opis:: Związki manganu występujące w wodach powierzchniowych praktycznie nie są usuwane podczas procesu koagulacji. Technologia oczyszczania wody stosowana w zakładzie wodociągowym "Czaniec", oparta na filtracji kontaktowej z wykorzystaniem siarczanu glinu, nie zapewnia usunięcia związków manganu, które okresowo występują w wodzie ujmowanej ze zbiornika zaporowego nawet w ilości 0,6 gMn/m3. Badania testowe przeprowadzone w skali technicznej wykazały, że dawkowanie nadmanganianu potasu w ilości 0,7 gKMnO4/m3 przed filtrami kontaktowymi (razem z koagulantem) umożliwiło skuteczne usunięcie związków manganu z 0,140÷0,605 gMn/m3 do wartości dopuszczalnej (0,05 gMn/m3). Roczne doświadczenia eksploatacyjne w skali całego zakładu wodociągowego wykazały, że dawka nadmanganianu potasu zależała nie tylko od zawartości związków manganu, ale także od ogólnego składu ujmowanej wody. Wprowadzenie do technologii oczyszczania wody nadmanganianu potasu zapobiegło konieczności czasowego wyłączania zakładu spowodowanego dużą zawartością związków manganu w ujmowanej wodzie.
Manganese compounds that occur in surface water are virtually not removed during coagulation. The treatment train applied in the Czaniec Waterworks, which includes contact filtration and the use of aluminum sulfate, practically fails to remove the manganese compounds that periodically occur in the impoundment lake, even if their concentration amounts to 0.6 gMn/m3. Full-scale tests have shown that potassium permanganate doses of 0.7 gKMnO4/m3 applied before the contact filters (with aluminum sulfate) provided efficient removal of manganese compounds from the level of 0.140-0.605 gMn/m3 to the admissible value of 0.05 gMn/m3. Experience gained during one-year observations has shown that the size of the potassium permanganate dose depends not only on the manganese compound content, but also on the concentration of the other lake water components. The inclusion of potassium permanganate into the treatment train eliminated the necessity for temporary discontinuation of the treatment process as a consequence of the high manganese content of the water entering the plant.
