Opis:
The architecture of the six Roman baths in Sabratha developed in the second century during the reorganization of the urban space after the earthquake of the Flavian period. They are all well organized in the axial arrangement of the cold and hot baths, with frigidarium as the focus of the structure, served by apodyteria, environments with benches for visitors and latrinae, and also with appropriate paths and well-wishers (the mosaics in the so-called Terme del Teatro) or marble statues (in the latrine of the so-called Terme a mare). The spaces for the hot bath stand out for the sequence of the laconicum, the tepidarium and of the calidarium, independent and equipped with the praefurnia. In the Forum area the ‘Terme a mare’ imposed themselves for its original technical and structural insights aimed at obtaining a building area bigger than the tectonics of the soil could then ensure. The ‘Terme del Teatro’ on their turn spearheaded the experimentation with new analytical techniques aiming at the restitution of the original project.

The article presents results of tests on potentiostatic electrodeposition of ruthenium and Co-Ru alloys. The tests applying the method of cyclic voltammetry with the use of gold disk electrode (RDE) allowed to define a potentials range in which it is possible to obtain ruthenium and its alloys with cobalt from acid chloride electrolytes. The influence of electrodeposition parameters and the electrolyte composition on the composition, morphology and structure of the obtained deposits was determined. Co-Ru alloys underwent XRD tests, an analysis with the XRF method and observations using scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

In 2014 and 2015, the Polish–Egyptian Conservation Mission to Marina el-Alamein undertook research, conservation and presentation of the area north of the central square of the ancient town. A major landmark in this part of the city are the public baths from the Hellenistic period, discovered in 1987. The work was focused on the main chambers of the bath: the central tholos with relics of hip-bathtubs, the neighboring room with an immersion bathtub, and a set of rooms in the southern area of the complex.

The Polish–Egyptian mission at Kom el-Dikka, ran by the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, stepped up the already advanced preservation processes aimed at establishing an Archaeological Park at the site. Conservation work was carried out in the theater portico, the bath complex and the residential quarter of late Roman date in the eastern part of the excavation area. In turn, the western part was the focus of archaeological research centered on the exploration of some late Roman structures located underneath. The early medieval/Islamic cemetery overlying these remains was explored first. A detailed report from this work is appended to this article. The human skeletal remains from the cemetery were examined by anthropologists. The western gate to the bath complex, leading from the theater portico, was fully exposed. Finds from present and earlier work at the site continued to be studied: glass vessels, pottery, lamps, bone objects, painted wall plaster, and a vast collection of coins.

Opis:
Copper wires are covered with various coatings for many different applications. The most popular are tin based coatings and both their thickness and quality have been standardized by means of appropriate standard specifications. Copper wires intended for photovoltaic cables are subjected to especially high requirements due to their exceptionally long operating time and extremely unfavourable working conditions. Tin coatings are applied using the electroplating method and generally a fluoroborate bath is used during the process, however, it has been proved to be a health hazard in general and harmful to the environment as a whole. The paper presents the research results of a new ecological methane-sulfonate bath which does not form hazardous waste in the process. The examples of tin coatings of various thickness and the way of obtaining them at varying electrodeposition speeds at constant current or constant speed with varying current intensity were analysed. It has been determined that the use of the new electroplating bath is not only beneficial from an ecological point of view, but also in terms of the coating quality and efficiency of the process.

Opis:
A Roman bath in use from the 2nd to the 4th century AD at the harbor of Marina el-Alamein on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt continued to be researched, conserved and prepared for exhibition by the Polish–Egyptian Conservation Mission working under the auspices of the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw and the Faculty of Architecture, Wrocław University of Technology. The bath and adjacent civic basilica were located in the center of the ancient town, to the south of the ruins of the main square. By updating results of research carried out in previous seasons, the present studies on the caldarium and frigidarium of the bath and a part of the civic basilica have brought us significantly closer to identifying the functional layout of the southern baths. Phases of construction were investigated as well and it is now possible to trace the transformation of the building over time.

Opis:
Among the lesser known forms of burghers’ religious practice in the Late Middle Ages, there was the founding of the so called "Seelbäder” (balnea animarum) recorded mainly in the burghers’ last wills. Burgers bequeathed some sums of money to finance city baths for the poor. Sometimes they stated exactly which bath they wanted to support financially and when the baths were to take place. Sometimes the poor were also given food in the baths. What was curious about the bequest was the motivation behind it. It was not only an act of charity, but also a religious deed committed with the intention of saving the testatrix’s soul, which was often clearly stated in the text of the will. The commemorative nature of the deed consisted in the fact that baths were to take place after the testatrix’s death, usually on the anniversary of this event. The poor were supposed to pray with the intention of saving their benefactor’s soul. Sometimes they were to take place for a longer period of time (10 years), invariably on the anniversary of the benefactor’s death. The examples provided here come from the period from the 13th century until the beginning of the 16th century and reveal how such bequests were made in small towns such as Zalewo (the oldest record on founding baths for the poor dates back to 1326), Nowe nad Wisłą, Bartoszyce and Lubawa along with bigger centres in Teutonic Prussia and Royal Prussia such as Gdańsk, Elbląg, Toruń and Königsberg. In Königsberg, bequests to cover the costs of free baths for the poor happened so frequently that there was even a regulation issued by the municipal authorities which regulated the use of free baths. It should be underlined that financing baths for the poor on a particular day solved the problem of other inhabitants of the town using the baths who came from various social strata. Founding special baths for the poor and inhabitants of municipal hospitals meant that they used the baths separately and at different times than bathers from higher social classes.

Klasyfikacja JEL: C2, C22.
Many factors influence customer preferences among those who choose active leisure. A wide range of market productsmakes for many opportunities, and sports facilities are required to be fully prepared to provide services. It is helpful to create forecasts that enable to determine the predictable number of clients. An example prediction made with respect to swimming pools is presented in this article.
Introduction: Diseases of civilization pose a vital health problem of the fast developing countries, including Poland. Negative effects of the growing civilization contribute to diabetes, coronary heart disease, hypertension (HTN) and the osteoarticular system diseases. Apart from drug therapy, sanatorium and health resort treatment is being implemented in the treatment of chronic diseases. Its essence consists in application of the natural medicinal stimuli, which are individually selected when it comes to their kind, character and intensity. Aim: The aim of this paper is the evaluation of the influence of the balneotherapy and hydrotherapy on blood pressure value (BP). Material and method: The research included 150 patients of the Health Resort in Horyniec-Zdrój, results were obtained on the basis of BP measurement before and after the treatment as well as an anonymous questionnaire carried out among the patients. The influence of the medicinal treatment on the niekorzystvalue of the systolic (SYS) and diastolic (DIA) blood pressure was investigated. Socio demographic data and patients’ current diseases were also analyzed. Results: It has been demonstrated that HTN occurs more often in people over the age of 60 years, that have a secondary education or higher, unemployed and incapable of working. The value of the systolic blood pressure lowers after such treatments as: carbonic acid bath, hydrogen sulphide bath, whirlpool bath, 4-chamber bath and underwater massage. It rises after a shower and peloid compresses. On the other hand, the DIA decreases after such treatments as: carbonic acid bath, hydrogen sulphide bath, pearl bath, whirl bath for legs and increases after a shower. Conclusion: Taking everything into consideration, it may be concluded that applied treatments have a varied influence on the value of the SYS and DIA blood pressure.
