W pracy przedstawiamy i dyskutujemy pojęcie asymptotycznej efektywności estymatorów w ujęciu Hajeka i Le Cama. Podajemy też ogólną konstrukcję pewnej klasy asymptotycznie optymalnych estymatorów dla parametrów z przestrzeni euklidesowej. Pokrótce szkicujemy uogólnienia dyskutowanych idei na przypadek semiparametryczny i pokazujemy, że techniczne wyniki uzyskane w teorii asymptotycznie efektywnej estymacji mogą być z powodzeniem wykorzystane w asymptotycznej teorii testowania. Wybór materiału jest wysoce subiektywny i tylko w niewielkim stopniu oddaje złożoność rozpatrywanych współcześnie zagadnień oraz ogrom wyników, jakie uzyskano w tej tematyce. Tekst jest skróconą wersją wykładu przygotowanego na zaproszenie Organizatorów Konferencji ze Statystyki Matematycznej – Wisła 2005. Głównym celem prezentacji jest pokazanie, że klasyczne podejście do definiowania asymptotycznej efektywności nie sprawdziło się i przedyskutowanie tego jak, dla pewnej klasy zagadnień, w naturalny i elgancki sposób został ten problem rozwiązany.
We present and discuss the notion of asymptotic efficiency of estimators as introduced by Hajek and Le Cam. We give also some general construction of a class of asymptotically efficient estimators of Euclidean parameters. Moreover, we briefly indicate some generalizations of the discussed ideas to the case of semiparametric models. We show also that technical results obtained in the asymptotic theory of efficient estimation can be successfully used in asymptotic theory of testing. The selection of the material is highly subjective and to a little extent reflects complexity of several problems and range of results available in present-day literature. The paper is a shortened version of invited series of lectures presented at the Conference on Mathematical Statistics WISŁA 2005. Its main purpose is to show that classic approach to define efficiency was not satisfactory and to discuss how, for some class of problems, this question was solved in a natural and elegant way.

A double asymptotic method for the effect of local thickness defects and initial imperfections on the buckling problems of some mechanical systems is proposed. asymptotic formulas for the critical buckling load parameter are obtained with the perturbation technique.
W pracy zaprezentowano podwójnie asymptotyczną metodę szacowania wpływu początkowych zaburzeń strukturalnych i lokalnych uszkodzeń zmieniających grubość na wyboczenie wybranych układów mechanicznych. Zastosowane wyrażenia asymptotyczne pozwalające na określenie krytycznych parametrów wyboczenia otrzymano techniką perturbacyjną.

The paper focuses on a linear diffrence equation depending on parameters. The equation is related to Good win’s theory of extrapolative expectations. The stability region of the equation is investigated. Conditions for asymptotic stability are formulated and presented as an optimisation problem, which is further analysed. Despite employing state-of-the-art solvers, numerical results have turned out to be too ambiguous to provide the basis for definite conclusions about the investigated stability region.

A ship, as an object for course control, is characterised by a nonlinear function describing the static manoeuvring characteristics. One of the methods, which can be used, for designing a non-linear course controller for ships is the backstepping method. It was used here for designing the configurations of non-linear controllers, which were then applied for ship course control. The parameters of the obtained non-linear control structures were tuned to optimise the operation of the control system. The optimisation was performed using genetic algorithms. The quality of operation of the designed control algorithms was checked in simulation tests performed on the mathematical model of the tanker completed by steering gear.

In the article the asymptotic analysis of closed exponential queueing HM-structure with priority messages is carried out with a large total number of messages, depending on time. The number of service lines in systems, the intensity of service messages in them, the probabilities of message transitions between systems also depends on time. It is proved that the density of the income distribution in the network systems in asymptotic satisfies differential equations in partial derivatives. This provided the inhomogeneous differential equation for the expected incomes system structure. An example of transport logistics shows how to solve such equations.

The energy functional for an elliptic boundary value problem in two spatial dimensions is considered. The variations of shape functional resulting from the small shape-topological domain perturbations with the holes and inclusions in elastic body are determined. The exact representation of solutions to the boundary value problem is exploited for the purposes of asymptotic analysis. To this end the perturbed solutions of the boundary value problem are Expressem as the minimizers of perturbed energy functionals. The proposed method of asymptotic analysis results in the double asymptotic expansions, with respect to the size of a hole and to the contrast parameter of an inclusion with respect to the matrix, of solutions to the boundary value problems as well as of the associated energy functional. The shape sensitivity analysis of the energy functional with respekt of the boundary variations of an inclusion is performed. The further asymptotic analysis allows for the limit passage with the size of inclusion to zero. In this way the topological derivative of the energy functional is obtained. The proposed analysis can be used in the shape and topology optimum design for elastic bodies governed by the stationary as well as by the time dependent elasticity boundary value problems in the framework of selfadjoint extensions of elliptic operators.

The article is concerned with the analysis of the problem for a concentrated line load moving at a constant speed along the surface of a pre-stressed, incompressible, isotropic elastic half-space, within the framework of the plane-strain assumption. The focus is on the near-critical regimes, when the speed of the load is close to that of the surface wave. Both steady-state and transient regimes are considered. Implementation of the hyperbolic–elliptic asymptotic formulation for the surface wave field allows explicit approximate solution for displacement components expressed in terms of the elementary functions, highlighting the resonant nature of the surface wave. Numerical illustrations of the solutions are presented for several material models.

Opis:
A closed queueing structure is considered in the paper; the number of single-type messages is not constant and depends on time. The route of messages is given by an arbitrary stochastic matrix of transition probabilities. An asymptotic analysis of this structure in case of large number of service requests is conducted. The service parameters of each queueing system of this structure, as well as the probability of messages transition between systems, depend on time. A system of ordinary differential equations to calculate the average relative number of messages in each queueing system, depending on the time, was obtained.
