    Opis:
    The article presents the views of Stanislaw Szczepanowski (1845-1900) – a politician, an economist and a publicist – on the Polish XIXth century literature. Szczepanowski was an opponent of aestheticism and of cosmopolitan art. He treated literature instrumentally, seeing in it primarily a tool serving the realization of national goals. He especially valued Romantic Literature, for – in his belief – it guaranteed the continuity of culture and propounded the national ideal which integrated and activated the Polish nation. The foundation of this ideal is implementation of Christian ethical values into the political, social and economic life.

    Opis:
    The article presents three little-known poems of the Lithuanian poet and diarist of the first half of the nineteenth century, Gabriela Puzynina. The seemingly trivial subject related to knitting needlework and conventional form of the poems gain a new value, if considered in the context of sociology and anthropology literature. The analysis, beyond the traditional genre study, are subject to the following issues: the poet as a distinct entity and her membership to women’s environment, the process of building the women’s identity, everyday life and its literary reflection, material culture in the comparison with the anthropocentric approach of the past. There is also raised a question about the way of reception such an occasional literature today. According to the author of the article, reading Puzynina’s poems only as “the literary trifles” wrongfully condemned them to oblivion, yet they are interesting and credible testimony of historical time and a medium for exploring the individual human life from the past.

    Artykuł został mi zasugerowany przez badania naukowe prof. B. Sosień dotyczące literatury francuskiej XIX wieku i postanowiłam zastosować jej motywy : sen, podróż i wzlot do niektórych powieści literatury polskiej i francuskiej drugiej połowy XIX wieku. Poszczególne ujęcia reprezentacji : romantyczne, realistyczne czy symbolistyczne pozwalają uchwycić literacką konstrukcję Paryża, związaną także z rytmem, rytuałem, nowoczesnością miasta i energią jego ludzi pragnących osiągnąć sukces.
    The themes suggested by prof. B. Sosień’s works: dream, journey and flight, are applied here to the study of Paris, as presented in some well-known French and Polish novels of the second half of the XIXth century. The various modes of representation: romantic, realist and symbolist allow us to understand the Paris literary construction, linked to its rhythm, ritual, modernity and the energy of his people, intent on achieving success.
