The analysed texts taken from Lettersof Timothy I the Patriarch of Baghdad on his dispute with Solomon, Bishop of Hedata – a dispute over recognition of baptism given in communities outside the Assyrian Church of the East (Severians and Melkites, or Monophysites and Orthodoxy followers in older terminology) – do not give the basis for claiming there was any kind of close contact between the Oriental Christians and Christians in Africa. Being aware of the controversies and struggles of Africans and the letters written in this context in Africa Proconsularis, in the Middle East and Middle Asia gives no grounds for forming categorical judgments either. A reference to specific judgments originating from Carthage is a fact. The quotes, however, may as well come from collections of legal documents consisting of the synod's decisions (without the context of their origin). This type of collection was common at that time and we know that both adversaries had access to them. Nevertheless, one thing is certain: for both debaters, Timothy and Solomon living in Mesopotamia in the 8th century, the heritage of African Synods from the 3rdcentury is their own heritage, and the decisions taken there applied to them. Being aware of the common tradition and communication is an axiom both in the dispute and the reasoning.
Analizowane teksty zaczerpnięte z Listów Tymoteusza I, patriarchy Bagdadu dotyczące jego sporu z Salomonem, biskupem Hedaty, sporu o uznanie ważności chrztu udzielonego we wspólnotach nie pozostających w łączności z Asyryjskim Kościołem Wschodu (Sewerianie i melkici, to jest w starszej terminologii, monofizyci i ortodoksi), nie dają podstaw do mówienia o bliskich kontaktach chrześcijan orientalnych z chrześcijanami w Afryce. Znajomość kontrowersji, z którymi borykali się Afrykańczycy jak i pism powstałych w tym kontekście w Afryce prokonsularnej na Bliskim i Środkowym Wschodzie też nie daje podstaw do formułowania kategorycznych sądów. Jest faktem odwołanie do konkretnych orzeczeń pochodzących z Kartaginy. Prezentowane cytaty mogą jednak pochodzić, równie dobrze, z kolekcji  prawnych, w których zbierano orzeczenia synodów bez wnikania w kontekst ich powstania. Ten rodzaj zbiorów był rozpowszechniony w tym czasie i wiemy, że obaj adwersarze mieli do nich dostęp. Tym niemniej jedno jest pewne. Dla obu dyskutantów, Tymoteusza i Salomona, mieszkających na terenie Mezopotamii w VIII wieku, dziedzictwo synodów afrykańskich z III wieku jest ich dziedzictwem, a rozstrzygnięcia tam podjęte obowiązują także ich. Świadomość wspólnej tradycji i łączności jest aksjomatem w toczonym sporze jak i używanej argumentacji.

Duchowni zajmują specyficzne miejsce wśród ludu Bożego, stąd prawodawca w Kodeksie prawa kanonicznego przewidział dla tego stanu odrębny katalog obowiązków i praw. Zawarta w Kodeksie dyscyplina ogólnokościelna, ze względu na specyfikę wspólnot partykularnych, powinna być aplikowana do odrębności Kościoła lokalnego. Uszczegółowienie i dostosowanie prawa powszechnego do warunków lokalnych jest zadaniem synodu diecezjalnego. Niniejsze opracowanie to analiza porównawcza poszczególnych praw i obowiązków osób duchownych zawarta w Statutach III Synodu Gdańskiego, w zestawieniu z poszczególnymi kanonami dotyczących tego zagadnienia w obowiązującym Kodeksie.
The clergy occupy a special place among the people of God, which is why the legislator in the Code of Canon Law for this state has provided a separate catalogue of duties and rights. The ecclesiastical discipline contained in the Code, due to the specificity of particular communities, should be applied to the distinctiveness of the local Church. Specifying and adjusting the common law to local conditions is the task of the diocesan synod. This study is a comparative analysis of individual rights and duties of clergy included in the Statutes of the Third Synod of Gdańsk, in combination with individual canons regarding this issue in the current Code.

The author discusses the theme of the recently concluded XIII Synod, while awaiting the post-synodal apostolic exhortation. In the first part, in order to grasp the theme, the author presents the story of the term “New Evangelization”. For this he turns to the teaching of Pope John Paul II, where one can find a number of indications for the point of departure of new evangelization, the Pope’s insights into evangelization and the reasons why there is a need for a new evangelization. In the second part, the author presents the essential content of new evangelization according to Benedict XVI, especially in the areas of conversion, witness, and its kerygmatic, charismatic and communitary dimensions. The final part touches on the importance of the role of the laity. It emphasizes the importance of prayer. The most fruitful and appropriate prayer in the context of new evangelization today is Lectio divina. It concludes in affirming that this action is without doubt a great challenge for the Church of Europe.

The challenges facing contemporary family come from the fact that all events related to political, social, cultural and religious changes cumulate in this basic human community. The role of a family is particularly significant in those places where anti-religious regulations make it difficult for parents to educate their children in faith according to their will. The primary challenges of a contemporary family may be balanced applying the principle of a Christian organization Jeunesse Ouvriere Chretienne (JOC). This method first asks one to see (voir) various threats to a family which are related to cultural changes, progressive dechristianization and new trends which are against the Christian vision of family and marriage. Not only should the threats be seen but one should also collate and assess them (juger), i.e. point out how they harm a family and why one should radically object to them. On the third stage one should act (agir) and take concrete pro-family measures in order to prevent significant erosion of sacramental marriage which form the foundation of the Catholic family. The community of family life advocates is looking forward to concrete proposals connected with the Synod of Bishops on family which started in Rome in 2014. They should present the range of activities in defense of family and new formation perspectives.

Archidiecezja Warmińska po osiemdziesięciu latach przeżyła zwieńczenie kolejnego synodu diecezjalnego. Inicjatorem, a następnie zwołującym synod był bp Józef Glemp. Po jego odejściu na stolicę prymasowską synod został zawieszony. Dopiero w 2006 r. abp Wojciech Ziemba dekretem wznowił i polecił kontynuować prace synodalne. Prace te trwały przez 6 lat. Swoim zasięgiem poza komisjami ogólnodiecezjalnymi docierały w formie zespołów synodalnych do parafii i dekanatów. Zaangażowało się w synod bardzo wielu ludzi z ożywionym poczuciem odpowiedzialności za Kościół. Owocem tych prac są statuty regulujące całokształt życia Kościoła lokalnego. Integralną częścią statutów są aneksy doprecyzowujące poszczególne unormowania.
The Warmia Archdiocese, 80 years down the road, entered the crowning of the subsequent diocesan synod. Cardinal Joseph Glemp was the one who initiated and then convoked the synod. Following his nomination as a Primate of Poland, it was suspended later on. Only after 2006 archbishop Wojciech Ziemba resumed and ordered its works to be continued. It lasted consecutive 6 years and covered the whole diocese through its diocesan and vicariate forane teams. There were numbers of people involved in its works in the animated sense of responsibility for the Church. As a result of the synod there were declarations and decrees issued regulating the entirety of the local Church’s life. An integral part of the decrees constitute the annexes which specify individual regulations.

This text discusses the relationship between the sacrament of marriage and the Eucharist. The motive undertake this relationship was the last Synod of Bishops on the role of marriage and family in the world. The biggest controversy has raised the issue of “irregular” situation and therefore granting of the Holy Communion to persons who are in the second unity. In the first part, the author of the text presents the arguments of supporters and opponents granting of Holy Communion for such persons. Without going into comment regarding direct to each of the reasons, the author considers as essential the question of how one and the second option understands the current state of reflection as “impasse” and how much of a “impetus”. In one and the other can to hide the real danger of the ideological thinking, leading to an impasse, and the chance to view something further and wider, and so the impetus for deeper and more responsible reflections. These are the issues of mercy, sin, the law of growth and analysis of specific experiences. In the second part of the text, the author draws a theological horizon to link theology of creation with science of salvation (sacramentology) and, consequently, more theological than ever juridically-legalistic way to justify the sacramentality. It’s about deeper showing into symbolism of the sacrament of marriage as a medium of the saving content. Also presents the four dimensions of the correlation between the marriage and the Eucharist: spousal, spiritual, communial and covenant. They are crucial to the renewal of the theology of the sacrament of marriage.

Rozwiązania synodalne, zachęcając do permanentnej edukacji muzycznej członków wspólnot parafialnych, wskazują osoby odpowiedzialne za jej przebieg i określają materiał muzyczny, który wierni powinni poznać. Autor analizuje wspomniane zagadnienia, rozumiejąc muzykę w liturgii przede wszystkim jako modlitwę Kościoła, związaną integralnie z tekstami i czynnościami liturgicznymi. Podjęcie zadania nauczania wiernych pieśni liturgicznych, aklamacji, hymnów itp. ożywiłoby – w zamyśle autora – ducha liturgii w poszczególnych ośrodkach duszpasterskich. Wszystkie zebrane w podjętym artykule wnioski mogłyby stanowić model dla formacji muzycznej wiernych w poszczególnych diecezjach w Polsce.
The author of the article has analyzed the synod documents of the Church in Poland, seeking answers to questions about the musical formation of the faithful. Synodal solutions, encouraging permanent musical education of members of parish communities, indicate the people responsible for its course and determine the musical material that the faithful should know. The author analyzes the above-mentioned issues, understanding music in the liturgy, first and foremost, as the Church’s prayer related to integrity with liturgical texts and activities. Undertaking the task of teaching faithful liturgical songs, acclamations, hymns, etc., would enliven—in the author’s intention—the spirit of the liturgy in individual pastoral centers. All the conclusions gathered in the article could be a model for the musical formation of the faithful in particular dioceses in Poland.

Refleksja Soboru Watykańskiego II nad episkopatem oraz integralnie z nią związaną zasadą kolegialności stała się ważnym fundamentem teologicznym dla powstania instytucji Synodu Biskupów, a także dla określenia roli i znaczenia tejże instytucji w Kościele posoborowym. Instytucja Synodu Biskupów została powołana przez papieża Pawła VI motu proprio Apostolica sollicitudo z 15 września 1965 r. Jest to z jednej strony dokument erygujący instytucję, a jednocześnie zawiera on elementy normatywne oraz doktrynalne na temat Synodu Biskupów. Synod Biskupów od samego początku swojego istnienia był postrzegany jako miejsce spotkania oraz dialogu Biskupa Rzymskiego i episkopatu. Analizując podstawy prawne regulujące zadania oraz strukturę instytucji Synodu Biskupów należy wymienić następujące dokumenty: motu proprio Apostolica sollicitudo, które stworzyło instytucję; kanony Kodeksu prawa kanonicznego z 1983 r. na temat Synodu Biskupów; regulaminy dotyczące funkcjonowania instytucji: zatwierdzony przez Pawła VI regulamin z 1966 r. wraz z nowelizacjami z 1969 i 1971 r., regulamin zatwierdzony przez papieża Benedykta XVI z 2006 r., oraz aktualnie obowiązujący regulamin zatwierdzony przez papieża Franciszka z 2018 r. Zebrania Synodu Biskupów mogą mieć różny charakter. Konstytucja apostolska Episcopalis communio papieża Franciszka z 2018 r. wyróżnia trzy rodzaje zgromadzeń Synodu Biskupów: Zwyczajne Zebranie Ogólne, jeżeli rozpatrywane są sprawy dotyczące dobra Kościoła powszechnego; Nadzwyczajne Zgromadzenie Ogólne, jeśli kwestie, które mają być ujęte, dotyczą dobra Kościoła powszechnego i wymagają pilnego rozpatrzenia; Zgromadzenie Specjalne, jeśli przedmiotem obrad są kwestie dotyczące głównie jednego lub więcej określonych obszarów geograficznych. Jeżeli jednak Biskup Rzymski uzna to za stosowne, szczególnie ze względów ekumenicznych, może zwołać zgromadzenie synodalne według innego, uznanego przez siebie trybu. W latach 1967–2022 było zwołanych trzydzieści Synodów Biskupów, w tym szesnaście zwyczajnych zgromadzeń ogólnych, trzy zgromadzenia nadzwyczajne, dziesięć zgromadzeń specjalnych oraz jeden poświęcony sytuacji duszpasterskiej w Holandii.
The reflection of the Second Vatican Council on the episcopate and the principle of collegiality connected with it became an important theological foundation for the establishment of the institution of the Synod of Bishops, as well as for the definition of the role and importance of this institution in the post-conciliar Church. The institution of the Synod of Bishop was established by Pope Paul VI, motu proprio Apostolica sollicitudo on September 15, 1965. On the one hand, it is a document establishing the institution, and at the same time it contains normative and doctrinal elements on the subject of the Synod of Bishops. From the very beginning of its existence, the Synod of Bishops was perceived as the place of meeting and dialogue between the Roman Pontiff and the episcopate. When analyzing the legal basis regulating the tasks and structure of the institutions of the Synods of Bishops, the following document should be mentioned; motu proprio Apostolica sollicitudo, witch created the institution; the canons of the 1983 Code of Canon Law on the Synod of Bishops; regulations regarding the functioning of the institution; the regulations of 1966 approved by Paul VI together with the amendments of 1969 and 1971, regulations approved by Pope Benedict XVI of 2006, and the regulations currently in force approved by Pope Francis of 2018. Meeting of the Synod of Bishops may be of a different character. The Apostolic Constitution Episcopalis communio of Pope Francis of 2018 distinguishes three types of assembly of the Synod of Bishops: Ordinary General Assembly when matters concerning the common Church are being considered; The Extraordinary General Assembly, if the matters to be dealt with concern the goad of the universal Church and require urgent consideration; Special Assemblies where the agenda is primarily one or more specific geographic areas. If, however, the Roman Pontiff deems it appropriate, especially for ecumenical reasons, he may convene a synodal assembly according to another procedure which he deems. From 1967 to 2022, thirty Bishops’ Synods were convened, including sixteen ordinary general assemblies, three extraordinary assemblies, ten special assemblies and one dedicated to the pastoral situation in the Netherlands.

Bishop Hieronim Rozrażewski was chairing the Second Synod of the Wloclawek’s Diocese in September 22nd, 1589. During these deliberations, the following issues had been discussed: the defense of the Catholic faith, the privileges and obligations of the clergy, the administrative directives concerning the offices, the sacramental service, the Divine worship, the times and holy places. It’s worth mentioning that the reform of the religious life and the issue of the Catholic teaching and improvements in education had been discussed as well.The statutes which had been accepted by the Synod, considered Bishop Hieronim Rozrażewski, to be one of the most active advocates of the Tridentine reform in Poland.

In the article, a reflection is made on the legal regulations developed by the First Synod of the Diocese of Opole, concerning the management of temporal goods of the Diocese. The study presents the content of 17 statutes and 5 annexes (as well as considering earlier studies produced by one of the synodal working commissions, intended to be discussed by the parish synodal groups), and reflects on the completeness of the legal treatment of this vital yet complex area of ecclesiastical life.  The solutions adopted by the Synod should be considered incomplete, but the synodal legislator, that is the diocesan bishop, has the right to enact such particular norms as he deems appropriate and necessary.

Opis:
Udzielanie chrztu świętego osobom, które nie ukończyły 14. roku życia, w archidiecezji lubelskiej zostało uregulowane w statutach II Synodu Diecezji Lubelskiej oraz w Instrukcji o udzielaniu sakramentu chrztu w Archidiecezji Lubelskiej z dnia 28 kwietnia 2017 r., do której dołączono formularze kancelaryjne (załączniki). Podstawą do udzielenia chrztu osobom poniżej 14. roku życia jest prośba lub zgoda wyrażona przynajmniej przez jednego z rodziców lub prawnych opiekunów. W przypadku dzieci w wieku katechetycznym (7-14 lat) wymagane jest również wyrażenie woli przyjęcia sakramentu przez samego kandydata. Na rodzicach i całym Kościele spoczywa obowiązek wychowania w wierze dzieci, które przyjęły chrzest, aby z czasem mogły ją osobiście wyznawać.
Baptism for those who are under the age of 14 in the Archdiocese of Lublin is governed by the statutes of the Second Synod of the Lublin Diocese and the Instructions on Baptism in the Archdiocese of Lublin of 28 April 2017, with appropriate attachments (the chancellery forms). The basis for baptism for persons under the age of 14 is a request or consent expressed by at least one of the parents or legal guardians. In the case of children of catechetical age (7-14 years), the candidate’s expressed desire to receive the sacrament is also required. It is the responsibility of parents and the whole Church to give religious upbringing to children who have been baptized so that they may personally confess their faith in due time.

Opis:
New challenges for the Church in Asia became the motive for calling by John Paul II the Synod for Asia. It took place in 1998 in Rome (19th of April – 14th of May). The article traced how this synod was portrayed in the Polish Roman Catholic press. The author analyzed relations on the subject of the synod which appeared in the Polish Catholic press. At first she presented what was written in the Polish version of “L’Osservatore Romano” and in the “Bulletin KAI”. This information was compared with the data which appeared in most important Polish Catholic weekly press and in the Polish missionary magazines.
