    Building teams has a fundamental impact for execution of research and development projects. Often the success of the project depends on the competence of employees implementing these projects. Therefore, it becomes essential to build the team where skills complement each other in terms of knowledge, personality and practical skills. On the other hand an important element is the process of assessing the candidate. The person dealing with recruitment often bases its decisions on intuition / subjective impression and they tend to be unreliable. The article presents a proposal to use Fuzzy AHP and TOPSIS methods in team building for R&D projects on the basis of employees skills using for this process the most well-known tool, namely spreadsheet.

    In this paper, an approach to evaluate R&D projects in telecommunications is presented. These Project have particular features that cannot be properly incorporated by classical evaluation methods. This approach incorporates different criteria, both quantitative and qualitative, and also management flexibility and uncertainty. Thus, it is an approach that can be applied to real data of R&D projects in a telecommunications company.

    One of the key issues in the management of R&D projects is tracking the process of their implementation, and the PR of the development of created solutions. The information about the current progress of the project and the identification of risks in different spheres of its implementation provides the possibility to take appropriate corrective actions on a continuing basis. This article presents a systemic approach and a practical application of a complex assessment of the maturity level of implementation and commercial potential in tracking and predicting the development of innovative technological solutions developed through R&D projects. It presents prediction capabilities for the development of technological solutions based on the analysis of evaluations using the example of tracking research projects conducted within the framework of the Strategic Programme, „Innovative Systems of Technical Support for Sustainable Development”. The article proposes directions for further research, which, in the process of predicting the development of solutions, factors in various aspects occurring at the design stage, preparation for the implementation, and commercialization.

    W artykule przedstawiono główne zadania realizowanego przez Konsorcjum Naukowo-Przemysłowe „Zgazowanie węgla” Projektu Strategicznego NCBiR pt.: „Opracowanie technologii zgazowania węgla dla wysokoefektywnej produkcji paliw i energii elektrycznej”. M.in. zaprezentowano koncepcję procesu tlenowego zgazowania węgla w skali pilotowej, opartą na prowadzeniu procesu w reaktorze ciśnieniowym (CFB) i wykorzystaniu w tym procesie ditlenku węgla w charakterze surowca, jak również rozwijanego w ramach Projektu NCBR procesu podziemnego zgazowania węgla kamiennego.
    This paper presents the main tasks of the strategic NCBiR Project: “Development of coal gasification technology for high--efficiency fuel and power production” implemented by the Scientific-Industrial Consortium. The project presents, among others, the idea of the oxygen gasification process, conducted in a pressure reactor on a pilot scale with the use of carbon dioxide as the gasification agent as well as the idea of underground hard coal gasification process developed within the framework of the NCBiR Project.

    Introduction/background: The automotive sector is one of the most important industries for many industrialized countries. More than 20,000 parts per vehicle are sourced from suppliers from all over the world. Innovation projects in the automotive sector are the most complex and increasingly implemented in an open innovation model, i.e. with the participation of designers from multiple companies (R&D organizations, OEM, component suppliers, raw material suppliers). R&D projects driven by technology developments such as autonomous driving, electrification, in-car connectivity and multimodality are leading to a transformation of the industry (the largest since the invention of the car in 1885). The application of ITC (including the use of Industry 4.0 solutions like blockchain) means a new level of management of R&D projects carried out in an open model and control of the value creation chain throughout the product life cycle. Aim of the paper: The aim of the article was to introduce the concepts of inter-organizational innovation project management, project risk management, project management using ITC. Materials and methods: The research method used was: a systematic literature review. Results and conclusions: The article sought to confirm the thesis that automotive corporations are the forerunners of new solutions in the management of inter-organizational innovation projects.

    Building teams has a fundamental impact for execution of research and development projects. The teams appointed for the needs of given projects are based on individuals from both inside and outside of the organization. Knowledge is not only a product available on the market but also an intangible resource affecting their internal and external processes. Thus it is vitally important for businesses and scientific research facilities to effectively manage knowledge within project teams. The article presents a proposal to use Fuzzy AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process ) and ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System) methods in working groups building for R&D projects on the basis of employees skills.
    Budowanie zespołów ma podstawowe znaczenie dla realizacji projektów badawczych i rozwojowych. Zespoły powołane na potrzeby określonych projektów oparte są o osoby z wewnątrz i z zewnątrz organizacji. Wiedzy nie można traktować tylko jako jeden z produktów dostępnych na rynku, ale także jako zasób niematerialny, który wpływa na procesy wewnętrzne i zewnętrzne. Tak więc jest to niezwykle istotny potencjał dla firm i naukowych ośrodków badawczych, który ma wpływ na skuteczne zarządzanie wiedzą w zespołach projektowych. W artykule przedstawiono propozycję wykorzystania metod Fuzzy AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) i ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System) w budowaniu, kompletowaniu zespołów do realizacji projektów B + R na podstawie kwalifikacji pracowników.

    The paper presents a method of simplified evaluation based on the concept of the threshold (minimum) value of economic effects, i.e. the value covering capitalised project expenditures constituting the basis for estimating the rate of economic efficiency for different variants of R&D project implementation. The usefulness of the proposed method was assessed using the example of a research unit conducting advanced research and development activity in the area of technical solutions and their deployment in the field of electro-technical equipment and systems. The proposed method of assessing the economic potential can be used for the preliminary assessment of the project in the phase of the preparation of the project concept, when the research unit seeks to select project variants, as well as in the subsequent phases of the project implementation (at the designated checkpoints of the R&D project), when the research unit is focused on effectively managing the research process, making the decision on the continuation or termination of research activity.
    W artykule przedstawiono metodę uproszczonej oceny opartej na koncepcji wartości granicznej (minimalnej) efektów ekonomicznych, czyli wartości pokrywającej zaktualizowane nakłady na projekt, stanowiącej podstawę szacowania stopy efektywności ekonomicznej dla wariantów realizacji projektów B+R. Oceny przydatności proponowanej metody dokonano na przykładzie jednostki badawczej prowadzącej zaawansowane prace badawczo-rozwojowe i wdrożeniowe nad rozwiązaniami technicznymi w dziedzinie urządzeń i systemów elektrotechnicznych. Proponowana metoda oceny potencjału komercyjnego może być stosowana zarówno w ramach oceny wstępnej projektu, jak i w fazie przygotowania koncepcji projektu, gdy podmiot badawczy stara się wybrać warianty realizacji oraz po poszczególnych etapach realizacji projektu (w punktach kontrolnych projektu B+R), gdy podmiot badawczy stara się skutecznie zarządzać procesem badawczym rozstrzygając o kontynuowaniu lub wstrzymaniu prac badawczych.

    Within the next few years, Europe’s economic paradigm will change fundamentally. Its manufacturing base will continue to shrink, and therefore future growth and social welfare will rely increasingly on knowledge-intensive industries and services, and ever more jobs will require a higher education qualification. Human resources are a core determinant of quality in higher education and research. Universities must therefore work to enhance their human potential, both qualitatively and quantitatively, by attracting, developing and keeping talent in teaching/research careers. Excellence may only emerge from a favourable professional environment based in particular on open, transparent and competitive procedures. Research and development (R&D) has proven to be a crucial factor in shifting the world’s technological frontiers, while at the same time facilitating new technological and scientific innovations. This paper will focus on R&D at the Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies and Innovation at the Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic. After a description of a literary search in the introduction, the specific real situation at this institute is mentioned, i.e. the number of submitted and solved national and international projects, statistics on research and development sources, and of course human resources at the institute. In the conclusion, the reader will be able to get a picture of how to increase the institute competitiveness in international collaboration.

    The purpose of this article is to determine the main conditions for the profitable production of motorboats in Poland by taking into account the implementation of an R&D project. Theoretical considerations were made for the analysis of the main considerations based on the VT Sport case study. A descriptive analysis was carried out, indicating the market conditions for the functioning of enterprises producing motorboats, including electric boats. The effects of the implementation of the R&D project for the production of electric motorboats were indicated. Results were obtained for defining changes in the business model through the use of the R&D project, and a critical discourse on the effectiveness of electric propulsion of motorboats was carried out.

    Streszczenie: Głównym celem artykułu jest ocena wpływu zmiennej, jaką jest poziom efektywności energetycznej oraz aspektu finansowego nabycia i eksploatacji łodzi motorowych o zeroemisyjnym napędzie elektrycznym na tle ich substytutów rynkowych w postaci łodzi o napędzie konwencjonalnym wobec zjawiska rozwoju i dalszej ekspansji rynkowej producentów łodzi motorowych w Polsce w warunkach spełnienia współczesnych postulatów środowiskowych zrównoważonego rozwoju. Cel ten został osiągnięty z uwzględnieniem efektów badania opartego na analizie deskryptywnej i komparatywnej uwarunkowań energetycznych, środowiskowych i ekonomicznych rozwoju projektu badawczo-rozwojowego prowadzonego w latach 2018–2019 przez firmę VT-Sport dotyczącego opracowania nowego modelu łodzi motorowej wraz z przygotowaniem do wdrożenia do produkcji. Wskazano potrzeby rynkowe w zakresie dalszego rozwoju i ekspansji krajowych producentów łodzi motorowych w Polsce. Efekty badania mogą stanowić istotny przyczynek pogłębionych badań i dyskusji na temat spełniania warunków i postulatów ekologicznych, ekonomicznych oraz społecznych zrównoważonego rozwoju w rozważanym sektorze gospodarki.
    The main objective of the article is to assess the impact of the variable, which is the level of energy efficiency and the financial aspect of the acquisition and operation of zero-emission electric motor boats against the background of their market substitutes in the form of conventionally powered boats in the face of the phenomenon of development and further market expansion of producers of electric motor boats in Poland in conditions for meeting contemporary environmental demands for sustainable development. This goal was achieved taking into account the results of the study carried out taking into account the descriptive and comparative analysis of energy, environmental and economic conditions for the development of a research and development project conducted in 2018–2019 by VT-Sport, concerning the development of a new model of a motorboat along with preparation for implementation into production. The result of the study was an indication of market needs in the scope of further development and expansion of domestic producers of electric drives for motor boats in Poland. The results of the research may constitute a significant contribution to in-depth research and discussions in the field of meeting the conditions and postulates of ecological, economic and social sustainable development in the considered sector of the economy.

    This paper describes realization of the project aimed at developing a new type of borehole tool. Project with acronym “PPPI” is conducted as a part of the strategic program “Blue Gas” granted by The National Centre for Research and Development. The article contains basic information about the problems which designed tool will prevent, description of so far work and preliminary results of the study on drilled boreholes.

    Spowolnienie gospodarcze w Europie i świecie w szczególny sposób oddziałuje na tradycyjne branże przemysłu. Polskie koksownie od kilku lat systematycznie modernizowały swój potencjał produkcyjny i nadal prowadzą i planują działalność rozwojową. W obecnych warunkach strategia koksowni powinna być ukierunkowana z jednej strony na unikanie zbędnego ryzyka, a więc wdrażanie znanych technologii. Jednocześnie inwestycje w nowe i innowacyjne technologie jako niosące w sobie dużą zmienność powinny być postrzegane jako szansa. W warunkach znacznej niepewności niezbędna jest jednak zmiana podejścia do oceny przedsięwzięć inwestycyjnych. Tradycyjny rachunek dyskontowy ze względu na swój statyczny charakter - nie uwzględniający zmienności i opcji tkwiących w projektach oraz wielości momentów decyzyjnych - może okazać się już niewystarczający. Pomocnym narzędziem dla decydentów jest w takich warunkach rachunek opcji rzeczowych. W artykule przedstawiono dotychczasowe wyniki projektu badawczo-rozwojowego polegającego na wdrożeniu operacji podsuszania wsadu realizowanego przez Koksownię Zdzieszowice i ICHPW w Zabrzu. Omówiono uzyskane wyniki i związane z nimi ryzyka. Przedstawiono dalsze zamierzenia rozwoju tego projektu, zakładające budowę przemysłowej instalacji badawczej do badania wpływu podsuszania na proces koksowania. Scharakteryzowano przesłanki zastosowania rachunku opcji rzeczowych do oceny przedsięwzięć inwestycyjnych charakteryzujących się dużą niepewnością rezultatów. Przedstawiono genezę i podział opcji rzeczowych oraz warunki ich stosowania w porównaniu do tradycyjnych dyskontowych metod oceny projektów. Omówiono genezę i parametry charakterystyczne opcji rzeczowych. W następnej części dokonano wyceny przedsięwzięcia badawczo--rozwojowego wdrożenia operacji podsuszania wsadu dla zespołu dwóch baterii koksowniczych metodą NPV oraz metodą opcji rzeczowych. Do oceny wartości opcji rzeczowej tego projektu, będącego klasyczną europejską opcją kupna, wykorzystano równanie Blacka-Scholesa. Dokonano porównania uzyskanych wyników i ustalono wartość elastyczności tkwiącą w analizowanym projekcie badawczo-rozwojowym.
    The economic downturn in Europe and in the world, has affected the traditional branches of industry in a particular way. Development plans of domestic coke plants in terms of main production assets for the next years have been presented. Taking into account the current market situation, the coke plants strategy should aim at risk minimization through application of already known technologies. On the other hand, investments in scope of new and innovative technologies which are connected with a high level of variability, should be seen as an opportunity. Thus, evaluation of investment projects should be done in a different way than so far. The traditional discount analysis, because of its static nature, does not take into account variability and options included in projects with many decision moments - it can prove to be not sufficient. A tool which helps the decision makers in such situations, is the real options analysis. The article presents the findings of the research-development project on coal blend pre-drying implementation, realized by Zdzieszowice Coke Plant and ICHPW in Zabrze. The results achieved so far, as well as the concerns resulting from the project, have been discussed in this article. Further project development plans, aiming at the construction of a semi industrial research installation for analysing the impact of pre-drying on the coke making process have been presented. The article describes premises for the application of real options analysis as a tool to evaluate projects, the results of which are uncertain. The origin and structure of real options as well as the conditions of their application compared to traditional, discount based project evaluation methods, have been presented. The origin and characteristic parameters of real options have been discussed. In the next part, by applying the NPV and real options method, the research-development undertaking of coal blend pre-drying implementation on two coke batteries, has been evaluated. In order to assess the real option's value of the project, which is a classic European call option, the Black-Scholes formula has been used. The achieved results have been compared as well as the flexibility rate of the analyzed research-development project has been defined.

    The field of health care is an important element of the economic and social life of every country in the world combining demographic, economic and epidemiological, ethical and social challenges. Spending on the development of new therapies has been increasing over the past two decades, and the amount of drugs approved by regulatory agencies has remained stable. Literature does not provide adequate knowledge about the reasons of the productivity drop that impacts the competitive advantage of the companies taking part in the project’s race to the market (Schuhmacher et al., 2022), and it therefore seems crucial to analyse the factors determining high productivity of the pharmaceutical industry to adjust further actions ensuring the highest quality of health care systems, focusing on the wellbeing of the patient and the development of increasingly safer medicines. To address this need the author performed systematic literature review followed by structured interviews with 14 experts working globally in the field of drug development to determine productivity factors in drug discovery research and development projects, with the goal of answering questions related to which factors play a key role in the productivity of scientific organisations and the relationship between the factors, providing an insight into which parts of drug discovery ecosystem can increase a chance to address highly unmet medical needs of patients waiting for novel, safe and effective forms of treatment. As a result of the research 22 key productivity factors were defined and clustered into 4 categories: scientific, managerial, business, environmental and relations between the factors were discussed.

    The topic literature of the success in research and R&D projects, their success factors, or success criteria is not very extensive. Although a few items on this topic can be found, they often do not distinguish between types of projects in the research area between research projects and R&D projects. The aim of the paper is to present the success factors and success criteria of research and R&D projects and their importance for these types of projects. In order to achieve the aim of the study, the following research methods were used: a literature review and a survey analysis using correlations. The research was conducted on a sample of 200 organizations in Poland that run research and R&D projects. Based on the conducted quantitative research, the importance of individual success factors and success criteria of research projects and R&D projects was determined. The research results show that the importance of success factors and criteria for research and R&D projects varies.
