One of the dramatic effects of global warming is the retreat of glaciers. This phenomenon has intensified in the last two decades. Postglacial areas are quickly colonised by various groups of organisms. Auto- and heterotrophic microorganisms play an especially vital role in these processes. They thrive in shallow glacial lagoons which often form in front of retreating glaciers. These reservoirs are characterised by high dynamics of physicochemical parameters, including: salinity, temperature and concentrations of organic compounds and nutrients. The conducted microbiological studies have revealed rich structural and functional diversity of bacteria occurring in the ecosystem of Ecology Lagoon situated on King George Island. Bacteria found on the surface of algae and stones in the shore zone of the lagoon showed particularly intense metabolic activity. A molecular analysis has indicated that unique taxonomic groups of bacteria occur in the ecosystem of Ecology Lagoon.

Bacterial community structure
Common carp gut bacteria
Opis:
Fish are aquatic animals, where they share the same ecosystem with the bacterial community they are associated with. Community structure is a concept that studies the composition of species and their abundance in a community. Information related to bacterial communities associated with their hosts is very important to support fisheries resource management efforts, both through nature conservation and aquaculture. This study of the bacterial community in the digestive tract of fish can be used to support further utilization of potential bacteria that can be used to improve the fish's immune system. This research was conducted to analyze the structure of the bacterial community found in the intestines of Common carp through a metagenomic approach using the NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) method. The method used is a metagenomic approach, including DNA isolation from Common carp intestines. Then molecular identification was carried out using Illumina's NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) method using the 16S rRNA gene marker. The results of the analysis using the NGS method showed as many as 19 types of bacterial phyla identified with the top three phyla, namely Fusobacteria (80%), Bacteriodetes (15%), and Firmicutes (3%). The phylum Fusobacteria is dominated by the genera Fusobacterium, Propionigenium, Ilyobacter, Leptotrichia, and Sebaldella. The phylum Bacteriodetes is dominated by the genera Porphyromonas, Odoribacter, Bacteroides, Sphingobacterium, and Barnesiella. The phylum Firmicutes is dominated by the genera Clostridium, Lactococcus, and Sarcina, Bacillus, and Lactobacillus.

This research was conducted in Mempawah Mangrove Park, West Kalimantan on July – August 2018. The research aims to map the benthic macrofauna community structure and its relationship with the structure of mangrove vegetation. The research method was a survey and use purposive sampling data method in observation stations based on different stages of mangrove vegetation. The observation stations consists of Avicennia marina and Rhizophora stylosa as the species of mangroves. Station 1 consists of mangroves in seedling size, station 2 consists of mangroves in pole size, and station 3 consists of mangrove trees. The benthic macrofauna consist of 8 species from 3 different classes, merostomata, malacostraca, and gastropods. The highest abundance value (155 ind/m2), diversity index (1,875) and similarity index (0,668) is in station 2. The relationship between benthic macrofauna abundance and mangrove density has -0,356 as the correlation coefficient which indicates that an increase of benthic macrofauna abundance is in line with the decrease of mangrove density. High density value in research shows that the mangrove is in seedling size, and vice versa a low density value indicates the mangrove trees. The coefficient of determination (0,1272) indicating that the abundance of benthic macrofauna is affected by the mangrove density as 12,72% and 87,28% affected by other factors.

This study compares the diversity of methanogenic Archaeal communities that developed during biogas production in reactors fed with different substrates. Reactor I was fed with silages of maize and of alfalfa and timothy; and Reactor II was fed with these silages plus pig slurry and glycerol as co substrates. The Archaeal community structure was studied using polymerase chain reaction––denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis based on the 16S rRNA gene. In both reactors, Methanosphaerula palustris was most abundant, and species belonging to Methanolinea, Methanoculleus, and Methanotorris were present. Only Reactor I, where the ammonia concentration was lower, had species belonging to Methanospirillum and Methanosarcina. Thus, it appears that addition of pig slurry increased the ammonia concentration, which inhibited the growth of Methanospirillum and Methanosarcina.

A study was carried out in a shallow, eutrophic Oświn Lake, within Seven Islands Reserve (north-eastern Poland), in order to determine the infection of fish with monogeneans as sensitive indicators of water quality. This paper presents comparative analysis of the occurrence of Monogenea in fishes from two, distinctly separated pools of the lake, differing in environmental conditions. The impact of fish size and sampling season on the infection parameters was also analyzed. Material and methods. In 1998 and 1999, a total of 1091 fish representing 8 dominant species were examined. Samples were collected four times a year (in May, July, August, and October) simultaneously from the eastern and western parts of the lake. Results. 16 species of Monogenea (and some unidentified specimeus) occurred in the fish examined, most of them from the Dactylogyridae family: Dactylogyrus sphyrna, D. auriculatus, D. intermedius, D. anchoratus, D. falcatus, D. tincae, D. wunderi, D. zandti, D. difformis, D. nanus, D. distinguendus, D. crucifer, D. caballeroi. Furthermore, Tetraonchus monenteron (Tetraonchidae), Gyrodactylus elegans (Gyrodactylidae), and Paradiplozoon megan (Diplozoidae) were detected. Monogenea occurred abundantly on the gills of pike, roach, rudd, white bream, carp bream and crucian carp, but rather sporadically in tench and perch. The highest species variety and diversity of monogenean guilds were detected in carp bream and roach. It was proved that D. crucifer and D. difformis were significantly more abundant in the western pool compared to the eastern one. Infection of fish with Dactylogyridae was season-dependent, contrary to the infection of pike with T. monenteron. Intensity of infection of white bream with D. sphyrna and roach with D. crucifer increased with fish body length; such a relationship did not appear for the other monogeneans and their hosts. Conclusion. Presence of common Monogenea in the fish examined, lack of rare species, poor diversity of monogenean guilds and relatively low infection rate could be connected with the low stability of the lake environment. Location-dependent occurrence of D. crucifer and D. difformis indicated that the exchange between fish groups from the eastern and western parts of the lake is limited.

Opis:
Tunda Island has underwater beauty that has the potential to be developed into a marine tourism object. One important part of this is the fringing reef around the island. Unfortunately, this has been severely degraded. This study aims to determine if reef rubble and split rock artificial reefs have the ability to be a living space for macrozoobenthos and to measure the potential community structure. The research was conducted in August 2018 - November 2018 in the eastern part of Tunda Island, and included monitoring the initial conditions, artificial reef creating and positioning, gathering and analyzing macrozoobenthos data. The macrozoobenthos data collection was carried out from September to November 2018 as 4 observations, and was obtained using the Belt Transect method. In the analysis, the community structure data retrieved was divided into 3 categories: diversity, abundance and dominance. The diversity index obtained ranged from 0.43 – 7.65, meaning that it is of low to moderate diversity. The abundance of macrozoobenthos ranged from 1 - 18 individuals /m2 on the rubble type artificial reef and 2.13 – 4.26 individuals /m2 on the split type artificial reefs, with the most common class being gastropods. On rubble type artificial reefs, 14 macrozoobenthos genera were found to be common, while 13 genera were observed in the split type. The genus found was Culcita sp., Chicoreus sp., Diadema sp., Chelidonura sp., Thrombus sp., Chromodoris sp., Cymatium sp., Trochus sp., Terebra sp., Dardanus sp., Malea sp., Oliva sp., Opheodosoma sp., Actinopyga sp., Conus sp., Enoplometopus sp., Cypracea sp., Lambis sp., and Phylidia sp. The dominance index value was in the range of 0.18-1.00 or low to high on both rubble and split types.

Opis:
Larval stages of the Chironomidae (Diptera) can be found in almost any aquatic habitat, including artificial lakes. They form an important fraction of the macrozoobenthos of most freshwater ecosystems. The Mavrovo reservoir as an artificial lake in the Republic of Macedonia, to date, has never been an object of hydrobiological research of this type. For that reason, the purpose of this study was to conduct research on the composition and structure of the chironomid larvae fauna that inhabits the Mavrovo reservoir. The quantitative samples for this research were collected during one year (2017/18), seasonally from five different localities (T1–T5) – T1-Ulazna, T2-Hotel Radika, T3-Middle of the reservoir, T4-Bunec, and T5-Old church (village Mavrovo). According to the results, Chironomidae was represented with five subfamilies, two tribes, and 25 taxa. The subfamilies are Chironominae with the two tribes Chironomini and Tanytarsini, Tanypodinae, Orthocladiinae, Diamesinae, and Prodiamesinae. The dominant taxon is Tanytarsus sp., and besides it, the following taxa: Procladius sp., Chironomus plumosus, Harnischia sp., Polypedilum nubeculosum, and Orthocladius saxicola are characterized by greater community participation. The highest density of chironomid larvae fauna was recorded during the summer, a total of 1013.69 ind/m2, compared to the lowest registered in the spring season which is only 9.78 ind/m2.
Badania prowadzono za pomocą prób ilościowych, pobieranych w ciągu jednego roku (2017/2018), w poszczególnych sezonach wegetacyjnych w następujących lokalizacjach (T1–T5) – T1 –Ulazna, T2 – Hotel Radika, T3 – środek zbiornika, T4 – Bunec i T5 – stary kościół (wieś Mavrovo). Fauna Chironomidae była reprezentowana przez pięć podrodzin, dwa plemiona i 25 taksonów. Podrodziny to Chironominae z dwoma plemionami Chironomini i Tanytarsini, Tanypodinae, Orthocladiinae, Diamesinae i Prodiamesinae.
