    Golvers Noël, Two new letters from Michael Boym, SJ in Europe (1656; 1658), and the editorial dossier of his various European works on China (Dwa listy Michała Boyma SJ do Europy (1656; 1658) i edytorskie dossier jego rozmaitych prac powstałych w Europie na temat Chin).Both items, now in Munich but originally from the library of Jacob Golius in The Hague, represent two so far unknown autograph letters of Michael Boym (1656; 1658). The contents reveal his initiatives to get his manuscripts (Atlas; Medicus Sinicus and a so far unknown title on moxibustion) printed. Both letters are also the first documents which shed a clear light on the network between Rome and the Amsterdam printer Blaeu, in which were involved Jacob Golius, his brother in Rome, the Carmelite Caelestinus a Sancta Lidwina, and the Antwerp hagiographers Bollandus and Henschenius; this was the same network as the one behind the printing process of Martini’s Novus Atlas Sinensis.

    Opis:
    The scene depicting the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple was a rather popular image in Polish art in the 17th and 18th centuries due to the event being included among the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary. It also appears as a stand alone scene, as well as in series illustrating events from the life of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. These representations could take the form of polychrome murals in churches, paintings ornamenting the choir, as well as other series of works of art. Artists often based their work on ready-made models. In the case of the scene depicting the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, the most popular composition used as a model by Polish artists was undoubtedly the one executed in the first quarter of the 17th century by Peter Paul Rubens. He painted the scene on the side wing of a triptych housed in Antwerp Cathedral, although his drawing was also used to make a graphic version, the composition of which was expanded to include additional figures. The most convenient way of copying these models was by basing on prints which were published in large quantities, although the artists who made use of them often reduced the composition or made other changes which prevented a clear identification of a concrete model. In Poland, Rubens’ composition was used to ornament walls with polychrome paintings (Jarosław and Rzeszów), the backs of choirs (Koźliny, and to some extent Żarnowiec), paintings on canvas (KamieńKrajeński, Baranów, and Kazimierz Dolny), as well as in series of scenes associated with the Rosary (Kobylin), or for one of the scenes decorating the Feasts tier of an Iconostasis (Owczary). The Flemish master’s composition was popular in Polish art both in the 17th and 18th centuries.

    The law of general average is one of the oldest institutions in maritime law, which is still applicable in contemporary shipping. Although the role and function of general average have naturally changed throughout centuries of its history (the main reasons therefor being the popularization of maritime insurance, which evolved much later than the general average) and general average has been and is subject to criticism pointing to its anachronistic nature and redundancy in today’s maritime economic realities. However practice shows that general average continues to resist these accusations and is commonly used in the practice of maritime commercial trade. This article deals with the issue of general average in light of Polish maritime law regulations, the essence and specificity of these legislative solutions concerning the safety of shipping in Poland, and also gives examples of events that occurred at sea that permit the announcement of an act of the general average. This article also presents considerations with regard to arguments in favour of maintaining the institution of general average as a legal instrument used in shipping, as well as critical voices emphasizing the need to eliminate general average as an institution of maritime law aimed at distributing losses, incurred to avoid a common peril, to the participants of a maritime adventure.

W końcowej części artykułu omówiono także zwyczaje i uzanse dotyczące terminowości dostaw, ilości towarów i przewozów w transporcie morskim.
    The article characterizes the most important, currently applicable and most commonly used collections of maritime custom and usage of trade used in the work of a sea freight forwarder, which include The Haga-Visby Rules, The Hamburg Rules and The York-Antwerp Rules. The final part of the article also discusses maritime custom and usage of trade regarding the conditions of delivery, the quantity of goods and transport of goods in seaborne trade.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest starodrukom jezuickim przechowywanym w zbiorach specjalnych Wojewódzkiej Biblioteki Publicznej im. Hieronima Łopacińskiego w Lublinie. Ogólny przegląd starodruków obejmuje polonika (z lat 1573–1773) i druki obce (z lat 1574–1773) wytłoczone w typografiach europejskich i drukarniach jezuickich funkcjonujących na terytorium I Rzeczypospolitej. Wybrane przykłady jezuickiej produkcji wydawniczej rzucają światło na znamienny udział Towarzystwa Jezusowego w rozwoju cywilizacji zachodniej w epoce nowożytnej.
    This article is devoted to Jesuit old prints stored in the special collection of the Hieronim Łopaciński Regional Public Library in Lublin. Old prints consist of Polish prints (from 1573–1773) and foreign prints (from 1574–1773) embossed in European letterpresses and Jesuit printing houses functioning on the territory of the First Polish Republic. The selected examples of Jesuit publishing production shed light on the notable contribution of the Society of Jesus to the development of Western civilisation in the modern era.
    Статья посвящена иезуитским старопечатным книгам, хранящимся в фондах Люблинской воеводской публичной библиотеки им. Иеронима Лопацинского. В общий обзор старопечатных книг включены «полоники» (1573–1773 гг.) и зарубежные издания (1574–1773 гг.), оттиснутые в европейских типографиях, а также иезуитских типографиях, функционирующих на территории Речи Посполитой. Избранные примеры издательской продукции иезуитов проливают свет на то, какое значительное влияние Общество Иисуса имело на развитие западной цивилизации в Новое время.
