Opis:
Ant Algorithms, particularly the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) metaheuristic, are universal, flexible and scalable because they are based on multi-agent cooperation. The increased demand for effective methods of managing large collections of documents is a sufficient stimulus to place the research on new applications of ant-based systems in the area of text document processing. The author presents an implementation of such a technique in the area of document clustering. Details of the ACO document clustering method and results of experiments are presented.

Two new species of weaver ant are described from the Eocene of Germany. Males and gynes of Oecophylla longiceps Dlussky sp. nov. are found in the middle Eocene (about 47 Ma) of Grube Messel, Germany. Males, gynes and two workers of O. eckfeldiana Dlussky sp. nov. are recorded from the middle Eocene (about 43 Ma) of Eckfeld maar, Germany. The two new species are among the oldest records of the extant genus Oecophylla. First adaptations for moving in the forest canopy are present in the workers of O. eckfeldiana. Even more specialized adaptations for arboreal life are found in the workers of O. brischkei from Baltic amber. The coexistence of two species in Baltic amber and in the Bembridge marls suggests that in these cases different ecological niches were realised by sympatric species. Comparisons of the queens from different fossil and extant species indicate morphological trends, partly connected with increasing fertility. Most likely Oecophylla originated in the early Paleogene in the Palaearctic realm, radiating strongly during the climatic changes of the Eocene–Oligocene transition.

place-based pedagogy
Opis:
Space (and place) is a topic that is often the focus of researchers representing social and humanistic fields. Analyses of the significance of places to individuals and groups are carried out also on the basis of pedagogy. The subdiscipline which particularly emphasises the role of place is ‘place-based pedagogy’, and, on the Polish ground, so-called ‘pedagogika miejsca’. Therefore, pedagogues are interested in ways of giving meanings to places by their users, connections of the arrangement of space with its reception by individuals, space valorising and so on. In this article, the author presents the theoretical perspective of post-constructivism and the actor-network theory proposed by B. Latour and then developed and modified by other researchers, which is one of the most well-known (and recognised) strategies of a post-constructive reflection on reality. It can successfully become an approach in which pedagogical research related to the spaces in which people operate would be carried out, which would be a valuable complement to pedagogical considerations on place that has been known to date as of the phenomenological perspective.

Opis:
Ant colony optimization (stocktickerACO) is a meta-heuristic algorithm inspired by food searching behavior of real ants. Recently stocktickerACO has been widely used in digital image processing. When artificial ants move in a discrete habitat like an image, they deposit pheromone in their prior position. Simultaneously, vaporizing of pheromone in each iteration step avoids from falling in the local minima trap. Iris recognition because of its great dependability and non-invasion has various applications. simulation results demonstrate stocktickerACO algorithm can effectively extract the iris texture. Also it is not sensitive to nuisance factors. Moreover, stocktickerACO in this research preserves details of the various synthetic and real images. Performance of ACO in iris segmentation is compared with operation of traditional approaches such as canny, robert, and sobel edge detections. Experimental results reveal high quality and quite promising of stocktickerACO to segment images with irregular and complex structures.

Assignment Problem (AP), which is well known combinatorial problem, has been studied extensively in the course of many operational and technical researches. It has been shown to be NP-hard for three or more dimensions and a few non-deterministic methods have been proposed to solve it. This paper pays attention on new heuristic search method for the n-dimensional assignment problem, based on swarm intelligence and comparing results with those obtained by other scientists. It indicates possible direction of solutions of problems and presents a way of behaviour using ant algorithm for multidimensional optimization complex systems. Results of researches in the form of computational simulations outcomes are presented.

Opis:
The maximum clique problem is a very well-known NP-complete problem of the kind for which meta-heuristic algorithms, which include ant algorithms, have been developed. Well-known instances of problems enable the assessment of the quality of elaborated algorithms; however, there is a particular kind of graph in which each vertex has a nearly equal number of adjacent edges. It is very difficult to find a maximum clique in such a graph. The search for the maximum clique in this particular kind of graph is investigated and compared to the best known ant algorithms.

This paper presents an attempt to solve the problem of choosing the best combination among the M combinations of shortest paths in optical translucent networks. Fixed routing algorithms demands a single route to each pair of nodes. The existence of multiple shortest paths to some pairs of nodes originates the problem of choose the shortest path which fits better the network requests. The algorithm proposed in this paper is an adaptation of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) metaheuristic and attempt to define the set of routes that fits in an optimized way the network conditions, resulting in reduced number of blocked requests and better adjusted justice in route distribution. A performance evaluation is conducted in real topologies by simulations, and the proposed algorithm shows better performance between the compared algorithms.

Can old buildings faithfully transmit social meaning? Conservation studies have taught us for decades that buildings are valuable for their historical substance and symbolic value gradually acquired with time. Drawing on an Actor-Network-Theory-inspired perspective to tackle buildings, this article questions the philosophy of preservation studies and their definitions of building and agency. Following the process of renovation of the 17th century Alte Aula in Vienna, I explore its dynamics and unpredictable drifts. Renovating is not about transforming a passive and subservient object; it rather offers an experimental situation in which one can witness the building recalcitrance, i.e., its capacity to manifest itself as disobedient as possible to the protocol of renovation, to resist the attempts of control and to ‘surprise’ its makers. A building is, I argue here, a complex mediator that skilfully redistributes the agency among human and nonhuman participants in renovation, provokes contextual mutations and transforms social meanings.

The main aim of the article is to propose a new version of sociology of literature under the name of ANT-ology of literature. In the first part of the text I sketch a map of modern controversies on status and situation of literature and literary studies in contemporary world. I underline the fact that descriptions of this situation proposed by literary and academic establishment is always critical and that in fact this diagnosis are presented from conservative point of view. Afterward I discuss classical approaches of sociology of literature starting in 19th century till present-day and cultural sociology of literature connected with cultural turn in humanities and social sciences. However, I underline that all those approaches are anthropo- and textocentric. Hence, the crucial is the last part of the article. I argue on the necessity of application of Bruno Latour’s Actor-Network Theory into the literary studies and I describe possible advantages of ANT-ology of literature. If we take seriously into consideration the ideas of human and nonhuman actors, collective instead of society, abandon the “context”, focus on empiric and case studies, and if we will follow the actors, etc., presented version of literary studies will be entirely different – redefined and renewed.

Nitrated derivatives of 5-amino-3-nitro-1,2,4-triazole (ANTA) and 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one (NTO) were theoretically characterized with respect to their performance as high explosives and rocket propellants. The detonation velocity and the detonation pressure of the derivatives, calculated with EXPLO5 software, were at the same level or slightly above the performance of 1,3,5-trinitroperhydro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX). The results showed that compositions of 1,3,4-trinitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one and glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) could give specific impulses just above 2600 m/s in rocket propellants. The sensitivities of the derivatives were evaluated using their heats of detonation, CHNO-ratios, free space in the crystal lattice and N−NO2 bond dissociation energy. The stability and sensitivity of several of the derivatives could be poor due to the low N−NO2 bond dissociation energies. The N−NO2 bond dissociation energies in the derivatives were calculated to be between 41 and 296 kJ/mol when the M06-2X/6-311+G(2d,p) functional was used. Synthetic routes for the most stable derivatives were proposed. In addition, preliminary studies of the chloride-assisted nitrolysis of NTO were performed. The infrared spectrum of the NTO derivative indicated that N−NO2 bonds were formed.

Among the many bio-inspired techniques, ant clustering algorithms have received special attention, especially because they still require much investigation to improve performance, stability and other key features that would make such algorithms mature tools for data mining. Clustering with swarm-based algorithms is emerging as an alternative to more conventional clustering methods, such as k-means algorithm. This proposed approach mimics the clustering behavior observed in real ant colonies. As a case study, this paper focuses on the behavior of clustering procedures in this new approach. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on a number of well-known benchmark data sets. Empirical results clearly show that the ant clustering algorithm (ACA) performs well when compared to other techniques.

The soundness of ship routing not only affects the safety of ship navigation but also the operation economy and environmental protection. This research is based on the platform of Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), and founded on Ant Colony Algorithm (ACA) combined with the concept of Genetic Algorithm (GA), to model living organisms optimization behaviour to perform efficient ship route planning in transoceanic crossing. Besides the realization of route planning automation, ship routing will achieve the goal of optimum carbon dioxide reduction and energy conservation, and provide reference for route planning decision.
