Opis:
Macrophytes and selected physical-chemical water properties were studied in 17 post-mining lakes of Jeziórko Sulphur Mine – one of the largest borehole sulphur mines in the world. Artificial lakes were constructed in subsidence depressions during the reclamation process of mining fields. They were characterized by high mineralization – conductivity ranged from 723 to 2295 μS/cm. The reaction was near neutral, or more frequently, slightly alkaline. Concentrations of phosphorus and organic matter were low. In the group of hydrophytes, Ceratophyllum demersum, Myriophyllum spicatum, Najas marina, Utricularia vulgaris, Eleocharis acicularis, Potamogeton pectinatus, Potamogeton natans and Potamogeton pusillus were frequently dominant. In several lakes, large macroscopic algae dominated – charophytes forming large, dense Chara meadows. In marsh communities, Phragmites australis was the most expansive. Reclamation process had a positive effect on diversity, some of the species found in the study area are regionally rare, including one species which is threatened in Poland (Najas minor). No alien species were recorded.

Opis:
The paper presents results of the field tests on membrane biogas enrichment performed with the application of mobile membrane installation (MMI) with the feed stream up to 10 Nm3/h. The mobile installation equipped with four hollow fibre modules with polyimide type membranes was tested at four different biogas plants. Two of them were using agricultural substrates. The third one was constructed at a municipal wastewater plant and sludge was fermented in a digester and finally in the fourth case biogas was extracted from municipal waste landfill site. Differences in the concentration of bio-methane in feed in all cases were observed and trace compounds were detected as well. High selectivity polyimide membranes, in proper module arrangements, can provide a product of high methane content in all cases. The content of other trace compounds, such as hydrogen sulphide, water vapour and oxygen on the product did not exceed the values stated by standard for a biogas as a vehicle fuel. The traces of hydrogen sulphide and water vapour penetrated faster to the waste stream enriched in carbon dioxide, which could lead to further purification of the product – methane being hold in the retentate (H2O > H2S > CO2 > O2 > CH4 > N2). In the investigated cases, when concentration of N2 was low and concentration of CH4 higher than 50%, it was possible to upgrade methane to concentration above 90% in a two-stage cascade. To performsimulation ofCH4 andCO2 permeation through polyimide membrane,MATLABwas used. Simulation program has included permeation gaseous mixture with methane contents as observed at field tests in the range of 50 and 60% vol. The mass transport process was estimated for a concurrent hollow fibre membrane module for given pressure and temperature conditions and different values of stage cut. The obtained results show good agreement with the experimental data. The highest degree of methane recovery was obtained with gas concentrating in a cascade with recycling of the retentate.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to analyse the applicability of infrared (IR) heaters (400 W, HTS/1 Elstein) to increase peat temperature of water-saturated peat. The experiment was carried out within two schemes. In VARIANT I the heaters were installed perpendicular to the heated surface at a height of 2.3 m, while in VARIANT II the heaters were mounted at a height of 2 m at the edges of the heated surface so that radiation reached the heated surface at an angle of approximately 40-50°. Based on the analyses of night-time means (from 3:00 to 6:00 a.m.) of peat temperatures recorded on manipulated plots under the heaters and the reference temperature, it was found that the application of HTS/1 heaters caused an increase of the mean peat temperature by 1.1°C and 0.5°C for VARIANT I and VARIANT II, respectively. The air temperature 5 cm above the heated surfaces was increased by 0.7°C and by 0.5°C at VARIANT I and II, respectively.
