    The paper presents the results of numerical analyses of the structures of integrated optics in the form of planar waveguides made of materials with high values of the refractive index n = 2.00 and with an input-output system in the form of Bragg grating couplers. The numerical investigations were carried out by using the FDTD method (Finite Difference Time Domain method).

    Opis:
    The paper deals with investigations concerning a wide-band gap material, viz. zinc oxide ZnO. Special attention has been devoted to the determination of the spectral transmission of zinc oxide layers deposited on quartz substrates. These investigations have made it possible to determine the optical spectral range in which this material is transparent as well as the edges of absorption. The presented investigations are valuable particularly concerning the application of zinc oxide in optoelectronic and photonic structures as well as in systems of waveguides and sensor layers of integrated optics.

    One of the most fundamental examination in intensive care medicine is cardiac output measurement, realized by pulmonary artery catherization. The thermodilution cardiac output estimation method is not resistant to various kinds of disturbances, which significantly decreases its sensitivity and specificity. The paper depicts investigations related to analysis of presumable new source of unreliability - asymmetric blood flow through pulmonary vessels. The investigations consisted of two phases: clinical examination (to obtain anatomical data) and computer modeling (to simulate the flow symmetry).

    The paper presents the results of investigations concerning sensor structures based on porous layers of zinc oxide (ZnO) sensitive to a selected gaseous environment. The investigations comprised analyses of the influence of the gaseous environment on the optical properties of a sensor structure, in particularly on the change of the spectral characteristics of optical transmission within the range of ultraviolet light and in the visible range. These presented investigations were carried out in such a gaseous environment as nitrogen dioxide $NO_2$ in synthetic air.

    The paper presents the results of investigations of zinc oxide (ZnO) layers as a potential sensing material, being affected by certain selected gaseous environments. The investigations concerned the optical transmission through thin ZnO layers in wide spectral ranges from ultraviolet to the near infrared. The effect of the gaseous environment on the optical properties of zinc oxide layers with a thickness of ~ 400 nm was analyzed applying various technologies of ZnO manufacturing. Three kinds of ZnO layers were exposed to the effect of the gaseous environment, viz.: layers with relatively slight roughness (RMS several nm), layers with a considerable surface roughness (RMS some score of nm) and layers characterized by porous ZnO structures. The investigations concerned spectral changes in the transmission properties of the ZnO layers due to the effect of such gases as: ammonia (NH3), hydrogen (H2), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in the atmosphere of synthetic air. The obtained results indicated the possibility of applying porous ZnO layered structures in optical gas sensors.

    The paper presents the results of investigations concerning the application of zinc oxide - a wideband gap semiconductor in optical planar waveguide structures. ZnO is a promising semiconducting material thanks to its attractive optical properties. The investigations were focused on the determination of the technology of depositions and the annealing of ZnO layers concerning their optical properties. Special attention was paid to the determination of characteristics of the refractive index of ZnO layers and their coefficients of spectral transmission within the UV-VIS-NIR range. Besides that, also the mode characteristics and the attenuation coefficients of light in the obtained waveguide structures have been investigated. In the case of planar waveguides, in which the ZnO layers have not been annealed after their deposition, the values of the attenuation coefficient of light modes amount to a ≈ 30 dB/cm. The ZnO layers deposited on the heated substrate and annealed by rapid thermal annealing in an N2 and O2 atmosphere, are characterized by much lower values of the attenuation coefficients: a ≈ 3 dB/cm (TE0 and TM0 modes). The ZnO optical waveguides obtained according to our technology are characterized by the lowest values of the attenuation coefficients a encountered in world literature concerning the problem of optical waveguides based on ZnO. Studies have shown that ZnO layers elaborated by us can be used in integrated optic systems, waveguides, optical modulators and light sources.

    The paper presents investigations concerning the analysis of photonic structures with grating couplers. In the paper basic theoretically information on photonic structures with grating couplers is presented. The results of numerical investigations on photonic structures with grating couplers are discussed, too. Investigations show an essential influence of the geometrical parameters of grating couplers on the effectiveness of the input and output of optic power into and out of this photonic structure. In the paper the selected results of experimental realizations of photonic structures with grating couplers based on zinc oxide ZnO are presented.

    In the paper, the results of technological investigations on planar optical waveguides based on high band gap oxide semiconductors were presented. Investigations concerned the technologies of depositing very thin layers of: zinc oxide ZnO, titanium dioxide $TiO_2$ and tin dioxide $SnO_2$ on substrates of quartz glass plates. There were investigated both morphological structures of the produced layers and their optical properties. The paper also presents investigations on the technology of input-output light systems in the Bragg grating structures.

    W pracy omówiono wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w 2011 i 2012 roku obejmujące występowanie 5 wielopierścieniowych węglowodorów aromatycznych. Ich dopuszczalne stężenia określane są Rozporządzeniem Ministra Środowiska z dnia 9 listopada 2011 roku. Analizie poddane zostały benzo(a)piren, benzo(b)fluoranten, benzo(k)fluoranten, benzo(g,h,i)perylen i indeno(1,2,3-cd)perylen. Próbki wody do badań pobierano w okolicy miejscowości Nowodworce. Wykonano oznaczenia ilościowo-jakościowe w/w substancji. Dodatkowo obliczono średnioroczne ładunki badanych składników. Najwyższe sumaryczne stężenie WWA odnotowano w 2011 roku, jednak nie przekraczało ono wartości granicznych. W kolejnym roku było ono znacznie niższe.
    The paper discusses the results of studies conducted in 2011 and 2012, including the presence of five polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Their limits are determined by Regulation of the Minister of the Environment dated 9 November 2011. Have been analyzed benzo (a) pyrene, benzo (b) fluoranthene, benzo (k) fluoranthene, benzo (g, h, i) perylene and indeno (1,2,3-cd) perylene. Water samples were taken to the nearby town of Nowodworce. Taken markings quantitative-qualitative / the substance. In addition, the average was calculated loads studied ingredients. The highest total concentration of PAHs was recorded in 2011, but it does not exceed the limit values. The following year, it was much lower.

    Celem pracy było opracowanie modelu sztucznej sieci neuronowej aproksymującej zmiany w stężeniach i wartościach podstawowych parametrów jakościowych ścieków oczyszczonych. Badania prowadzone były w latach 2014 i 2015 w oczyszczalni ścieków w Bystrym koło Giżycka. Obiekt ten oczyszcza zmieszane ścieki komunalne i mleczarskie. W modelu jako zmienne wejściowe wybrano siedem parametrów chemicznych ścieków surowych i ilość ścieków dopływającą do oczyszczalni. Wskaźniki chemiczne uwzględniały wartości biologicznego i chemicznego zapotrzebowania na tlen, stężenia azotu i fosforu ogólnego, ilość zawiesin ogólnych, odczyn oraz temperaturę ścieków. W prezentowanym modelu największy wpływ na aproksymację zmiennych wyjściowych miały stężenia azotu i fosforu ogólnego. Opracowany algorytm najlepiej oddał charakter zmian zawiesin ogólnych w ściekach oczyszczonych.
    Aim of this study was to develop a model of artificial neural network for changes approximation in concentration and values of basic quality parameters of treated wastewater. Studies were carried out in years 2014 and 2015 in Bystre wastewater treatment plant, located near Giżycko. To Bystre sewage treatment plant inflows mixed domestic and dairy wastewater. In model as input variables were taken seven chemical parameters of raw wastewater and the amount of sewage inflowing to facility. Chosen chemical indicators were describing values of biological and chemical oxygen demand, concentrations of total nitrogen and phosphorus, amount of total suspended solids, pH and temperature of raw wastewater. In presented model the greatest impact on variables approximation had concentrations of total nitrogen and phosphorus. Developed model at it best reflected changes in total suspended solid in treated wastewater.

    The aim of this study was to determinate seasonal changes in industrial wastewater treatment effectiveness. Studies were carried out in mechanical-biological wastewater treatment plant in Bystre near Giżycko to which inflows mixture of domestic and dairy wastewater. Laboratory studies were carried out by Water and Wastewater Company in Giżycko. For statistical analysis results form years 2014 and 2015 were considered. The scope of statistical analysis includes basic statistical measures including arithmetic mean, median, minimum, maximum and standard deviation. Changes in seasonal treatment effectiveness were shown by Fisher-Snedecore LSD test. Seasonal changes were observed for BOD, COD and total nitrogen removal effectiveness. Total phosphorus was not subjected to that kind of changes.
