Opis:
Wind and solar radiation are intermittent with stochastic fluctuations, which can influence the stability of operation of the hybrid system in the grid integrated mode of operation. In this research work, a smoothing control method for mitigating output power variations for a grid integrated wind/PV hybrid system using a battery and electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) is investigated. The power fluctuations of the hybrid system are absorbed by a battery and EDLC during wide variations in power generated from the solar and wind system, subsequently, the power supplied to the grid is smoothened. This makes higher penetration and incorporation of renewable energy resources to the utility system possible. The control strategy of the inverter is realized to inject the power to the utility system with the unity power factor and a constant DC bus voltage. Both photovoltaic (PV) and wind systems are controlled for extracting maximum output power. In order to observe the performance of the hybrid system under practical situations in smoothing the output power fluctuations, one-day practical site wind velocity and irradiation data are considered. The dynamic modeling and effectiveness of this control method are verified in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The simulation results show that the output power variations of the hybrid wind/PV system can be significantly mitigated using the combination of battery and EDLC based storage systems. The power smoothing controller proposed for the hybrid storage devices is advantageous as compared to the control technique which uses either battery or ultracapacitor used for smoothing the fluctuating power.

Opis:
Particle radiotherapy such as the one using proton beams, provides a successful treatment approach in many cancer types. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which proton irradiation induces cell death, particularly in a human peripheral blood lymphocyte model has not been examined in detail. Comparative studies of the biological effects, such as cell death, of particle therapy versus conventional X-rays treatment are of utmost importance. Here, we compared the viability of human peripheral blood lymphocyte following in vitro irradiation with protons (therapeutic 60 MeV proton beam) and photon beam (250 kV, X-rays), by applying separate doses within the range of 0.3-4.0 Gy. Cell viability was assessed 1 and 4 h after irradiation with protons and X-rays by the FITC-Annexin V labelling procedure (Apoptotic & Necrotic & Healthy Cells Quantification Kit, Biotium). Results showed that irradiation with both radiation types reduced the number of viable cells in a dose-dependent manner, as assessed as a function of the duration of post-irradiation time. Protons proved more fatal to the cells treated than X-ray photons. This demonstrates a difference in cell viability after irradiation with protons and photons in a human peripheral blood lymphocyte model.

Opis:
Low peak sidelobe level (PSLL) and antenna arrays with high directivity are needed nowadays for reliable wireless communication systems. Controlling the PSLL is a major is sue in designing effective antenna array systems. In this paper, a nature inspired technique, namely accelerating Gaussian mutated cat swarm optimization (AGMCSO) that attributes global search abilities, is proposed to control PSLL in the radiation pattern. In AGM-SCO, Gaussian mutation with an acceleration parameter is used in the position-updated equa tion, which allows the algorithm to search in a systematic way to prevent premature convergence and to enhance the speed of convergence. Experiments concerning several benchmark multimodal problems have been conducted and the obtained results illustrate that AGMCSO shows excellent performance concerning evolutionary speed and accuracy. To validate the overall efficacy of the algorithm, a sensitivity analysis was per formed for different AGMCSO parameters. AGMCSO was researched on numerous linear, unequally spaced antenna ar rays and the results show that in terms of generating low PSLL with a narrow first null beamwidth (FNBW), AGMCSO out performs conventional algorithms.

Opis:
Morphological variations can occur in human teeth. Developmental dental disorders occur either due to the abnormalities in the differentiation of the dental lamina and the tooth germs (anomalies in number, size and shape) or to abnormalities in the formation of the dental hard tissues (anomalies in structure). When such variations occur, they are more interesting to clinicians, anthropologists, and forensic dentists. Now, fusion and gemination aren’t an uncommon finding and affected mostly primary dentition and the permanent maxillary incisors. However, gemination of the posterior teeth is rare; permanent all the more than primary teeth. Gemination of a premolar is one such rare anomaly that arises when a single premolar tooth bud attempts to divide. Here, we present a case of gemination associated with the mandibular second premolar, showing a prodigious and unusual crown and root morphology.

Opis:
The tongue plays a vital role in deglutition, taste and speech. An abnormality or unhealthy tongue would make food intake troublesome, thereby depriving the individual of adequate essential nutrients. A fissured tongue is a malformation characterized by furrows or grooves on the dorsum of the tongue. On the other hand, geographic tongue is a benign recurrent condition of uncertain aetiology affecting the tongue characterized by loss of epithelium especially filiform papillae giving a characteristic appearance. These conditions may be asymptomatic or cause of discomfort to the patient. There are seldom case reports in literature of having seen these two conditions concurrently.
