The progressive process of ageing of contemporary societies and the increase in life expectancy related to the process result in a steady rise in the number of people suffering from Alzheimer’s. The disease is becoming a serious problem for a growing number of families who need to provide constant, long-term care for Alzheimer’s patients. The article presents the results of a research conducted among the participants of support groups for Alzheimer’s families. The purpose of the research was to grasp the way in which the presence of an Alzheimer’s patient in a family influences interactions, family relations and functioning of the family. The conclusions presented in the article are related to such problems as a sense of moral duty to provide the patient with care, changes in the structure of a family caused by Alzheimer’s disease, relations between the patient and their main caregiver, problems of acting as a caregiver, the influence of Alzheimer’s disease on family relations and bonds.

Opis:
Introduction and aims: The paper shows the analytical models of solving right triangles with appropriate discussion. For right triangles have been discussed six cases taking into account the acute angle and the difference of two sides length in the right triangle. The main aim of this paper is not only to create some analytical algorithms for solving right triangle, but also their implementation in programs MS-Excel, MathCAD and Mathematica. Material and methods: Elaboration of six analytical cases of solving right triangles has been made on the basis of the relevant trigonometric properties occurring in a right triangle. In the paper have been used some analytical and numerical methods by using MS-Excel, MathCAD and Mathematica programs. Results: As some results have been obtained numerical algorithms in the programs MS-Excel, MathCAD and Mathematica for six analytical cases of solving right triangles taking into ac-count the acute angle and the difference of two side length in the right triangle. Conclusion: Created numerical algorithms of solving the right triangles in the programs MS-Excel, MathCAD and Mathematica allow for faster significant performance calculations than the traditional way of using logarithms and logarithmic tables
Wstęp i cele: W pracy pokazano analityczne modele rozwiązywania trójkątów prostokątnych wraz z odpowiednią dyskusją. Dla trójkątów prostokątnych omówiono sześć przypadków z uwzględnieniem kąta ostrego oraz różnicy długości dwóch boków trójkąta. Głównym celem jest pracy jest nie tylko utworzenie algorytmów analitycznych rozwiązywania takich trójkątów lecz również ich implementacja w programach MS-Excel, MathCAD i Mathematica. Materiał i metody: Opracowanie sześciu analitycznych przypadków rozwiązywania trójkątów prostokątnych wykonano opierając się odpowiednich własnościach trygonometrycznych występujących w trójkącie prostokątnym. Zastosowano metodę analityczną i numeryczną wykorzystując programy MS-Excel, MathCAD i Mathematica. Wyniki: Otrzymano algorytmy numeryczne w programach MS-Excel, MathCAD i Mathematica dla sześciu analitycznych przypadków rozwiązywania trójkątów prostokątnych z uwzględnieniem kąta ostrego oraz różnicy długości dwóch boków trójkąta. Wniosek: Utworzone algorytmy numeryczne rozwiązywania trójkątów prostokątnych w programach MS-Excel, MathCAD oraz Mathematica, pozwalają na znaczne szybsze wykonanie obliczeń niż drogą tradycyjną z użyciem logarytmów i tablic logarytmicznych.

The article discusses a helmet that was published in 1914 in Zeitschrift für Historische Waffenkunde. It was possibly found by a German farmer during field works near the town of Verden in Lower Saxony. The helmet which was previously associated with the Saxons and dated between Migration Period and the reign of Charlemagne shows clearly relations with far Asian constructions. Additionally I discuss here another helmet in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which seems to be a 20th century reworking that imitated the Verden helmet.

In the current paper the author discusses headgear represented on Kušān medallions showing the bust of King Huviška. Most likely those medallions are depicting pre-Islamic lamellar helmets, well known from for example on the Sasanian, Bīsetūn capital currently held in Ṭāq-e Bostān Museum, Iran. The author will try to compare the presented lamellar constructions with known finds of such helmets of the pre-Islamic era.

Zaprezentowana została sylwetka Bartłomieja Dylągowskiego działającego w Krakowie w XVII w. Był on absolwentem Akademii Krakowskiej, gdzie z tytułem magistra ukończył Fakultet Filozoficzny. Posiadał także tytuł bakałarza medycyny. Miał również niższe święcenia kapłańskie. Był autorem trzech prac wydanych drukiem: Questio physica. De natura motus (wyd. 1634), Chronologia medica (wyd. 1635) oraz Syncretismus peripateticus (wyd. 1648). Jego praca Chronologia medica uznana jest za pierwszą historię medycyny oraz bibliografię medyczną w Polsce. W opracowaniach poświęconych Dylągowskiemu, poza informacjami biograficznymi dotyczącymi jego osoby, znaleźć można opisy wyglądu drukowanego wydania Chronologia medica oraz przegląd treści tego opracowania. Postanowiono zatem uzupełnić te wiadomości, umieszczając w aneksie tekst oryginalny (łaciński) oraz jego przekład na język polski.
The article presents Bartłomiej Dylągowski, who lived and worked in Kraków in the 17th century. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Kraków with a master’s degree. He also obtained the title of bachelor of medicine and received minor holy orders. He was the author of three printed works, namely Questio physica. De natura motu (published in 1634), Chronologia medica (published in 1635) and Syncretismus peripateticus (published in 1648). His work Chronologia medica is considered the first history of medicine and medical bibliography in Poland. The literary sources devoted to Dylągowski include both information on his biography and descriptions of his printed work, Chronologia medica, with an outline of its content. Therefore, it was decided to supplement the above information with the original Latin text and a Polish translation of Chronologia medica in the annex to the article.

Among structural health monitoring (SHM) methods of thin-walled structures, a vibrodiagnostic method is one of the most promising. The accelerometer recorded responses provide diagnostic information that requires mathematical processing to extract the essential dynamic characteristics. The authors have been looking for new parameters - diagnostic benchmarks which can be applied to non-destructive, automatic testing of thin-walled marine structures (especially their welded joints) like ship hulls. All characteristics have been based on recorded data generated during the vibration tests of welded joints with and without failures. For this purpose, the authors proposed method based on: FFT windowing analysis, benchmark with using 2D or 3D time – frequency dynamic characteristics and the determination of damping decrement in function of time. The work presents the algorithm and exemplary results obtained from the application of proposed method to several selected sample plates with different type of welds.

Increasingly popular remote work requires the use of modern network technologies to provide employees in a remote location with access to the company’s IT resources. The answer to the needs of remote access to files and server services can be the use of clouds and VPS. However, this involves high costs and requires entrusting the enterprise’s data to the providers of these services. Both for reasons of data security and too high costs, enterprises sometimes cannot use these technologies. The solution to the problem may be the use of encrypted VPN tunneling, which allows the device to be connected at a remote location to the company’s local network and use its resources as if it was connected to the local network with physical transmission medium.

The present study brings to light a new Sasanian mace in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England, acquired in 1971 from the Bomford Collection. The bronze mace head is in the shape of three ram heads, has an iron shaft, and a bronze pommel in the shape of a hand holding a ball. The mace incorporates several important decorative motifs – the ram heads which can be linked to the royal farr and to Central Asian visual language; the pearl necklace which is another symbol of the royal farr, and the triple dot motif which may have links to the star Tishtriya, to Apam Napat, or to Buddhist symbolism. In addition to these elements there is the hand motif, whose meaning is still unknown but might be linked to Asian symbolic hand gestures. The mace or scepter was an important element of royalty and of religion in Iran and Central Asia and the example in the Ashmolean museum is an important addition in the study of Iranian visual language and royal image in the specific context of Indo-Iranian mutual influence. In the present authors' opinion, the present mace is likely to date, based on relations with other objects, from the 5th - 7th Centuries and is likely to originate from Eastern-Iran or is rooted in Eastern-Iranian artistic tradition.

The exclusive interview with Mr Lech Wałęsa, the legendary leader of “Solidarity” Trade Union, the Noble Peace Prize Laureate in 1983 and the President of Poland from 1990 to 1995, on the state of democracy in Poland and Europe presents Mr Wałęsa’s perspective on challenges that contemporary political leaders have to face. It discusses four major areas: a historical consideration of Poland’s post–communist transformation, a today’s perspective on democracy in Poland, an evaluation of country’s role in the united Europe and a discussion of processes that threat democracy in Poland and Europe. In the interview, Mr Wałęsa shares his hopes and fears, and he presents main ideas for the new political times. His assessments do not focus only on the today’s state of democracy, but he also tries to consider how the democracy may look like in the future. As a result the Polish Political Science Yearbook publishes a unique conversation with the legend of the struggle against Communist dictatorships in Europe that shows Mr Wałęsa’s personal remarks on the democracy, the globalised World and modern technologies.

The article presents a methodology of non-destructive diagnostic vibratory tests of welded plates with geometrical parameters that classify them into a group of thin-walled panels. On the basis of such plates, most ship constructions are created. In previous works, the authors dealt with the study of welded joints in plates with significant thicknesses and developed for them a number of methods for assessing the quality of welded joints. Vibrodiagnostics is a NDT method that allows the use of a variety of techniques and tools. It enables measurements to be made in both a contact and non-contact way depending on the requirements of the structure and the environment. Vibrodiagnostic method is one of the most modern NDT methods, which uses modern measurement tools and computer analysis of data. On the basis of the developed methods, the authors intend to verify their application to plates from real welded constructions, which will be performed in typical shipyard conditions by welders. Such tests are important due to their use for the construction of a real SHM ship construction monitoring system. These methods allow for the examination of the condition of ships’ structural plates and can detect defects in welded joints that prevent ships from operating under severe sea conditions. The article presents the laboratory stand, the sensor layout, results, and their initial analysis.

Thin-walled structures are very popular in industries, especially in the field of shipbuilding. There are many types of equipment and structures of ships, which are made up of thin-walled structures such as hull, deck and superstructure. Therefore, the analysis and understanding of the static and dynamic characteristics of a thin-walled structure are very important. In this article, we focus on vibration analysis of a typical thin-walled structurerectangular plate, a basic structure of the hull. Vibration analysis of a rectangular thin plate is conducted by two methods: numerical modelling method of the finite element on Patran-Nastran software platform and experimental method implemented in the laboratory of Gdynia Maritime University. Thin rectangular plate is fixed one end by four clamping plates and is modelled with finite elements and different meshing densities. The numerical model of thin rectangular plate is divided into four cases. Case 1, thin rectangular plate, and clamping plates are modelled with two-dimensional elements. Case 2, the rectangular thin plate is modelled with two-dimensional elements; the clamping plates are modelled with three-dimensional elements. Case 3, both the rectangular thin plate and clamping plates are modelled with three-dimensional elements. Case 4, the rectangular thin plate, and clamping plates are modelled with three-dimensional elements with larger mesh density to increase the accuracy of the calculation results. After that, the results of vibration analysis according to the numerical modelling method on Patran-Nastran software platform for these cases were compared with the measurement results. From there, assess the accuracy of analysis results of selected numerical model methods and the ability to widely apply this numerical model method to other marine structures
