- Five cases are presented. The symptoms were attributable to sexual inter-course, making their appearance 2-10 days after the last intercourse. The diagnosis was made after the detection of T. vaginalis in the discharge from the preputial sac. Moreover, the Protozoa were searched in the urethral smears and urinary sediment. As the author found a banal flora in bacteriologic cultures he concluded that T. vaginalis may be a primary cause responsible for lesions of balanoposthitis type, this being also supported by the subsidence of the disease somptoms after the systemic administration of an antitrichomonal drug such as flagyl. The trichomonal inflammation of glans penis and prepuce may be accompanied by the symptoms of urethritis and balanoposthitis, or occur without these manifestations. It may take the appearance of balanoposthitis trichomonadosa simplex, or in the presence of erosions, of balanoposthitis trichomonadosa erosiva. In 2 out of 5 discussed cases the author found a concomitant diplococcal infection.
