Opis:
The basis of the author’s deliberations is the collection of articles written by the students and supporters of professor Andrzej Walicki ideas who is considered to be the best Polish slavist and who is widely known abroad. The collection of articles About Andrzej Walicki. Almanach of Russian thoughts was published under the auspices of Warsaw University and edited by Janusz Dobieszewski, Jan Skoczyński, and Michał Bihun who are interested in Russian philosophical thoughts in this area and who have considerable achievements in this sphere. The author claims that people who deal with and are interested in Russia, its history, culture and especially historio-philosophical thoughts, should be familiar with the articles published in this collection. It should be underlined that in Walicki’s interests and scientific research and as well in the writings of this advocate of Russian thoughts, Russian dominant is very clear and Jan Sobczak undertook the reconstruction of his views on stalinism and roots of Russian totalitarism, on the origins of Russian bolshevism. Moreover, Jan Sobczak pointed that Walicki’s ideas and thoughts are present in the contemporary Polish discourse on the subject of not only Polish -Russian connections but also the assessment of PRL and abusing such concepts as communists postcomunists, etc. or assessment of martial law, an attitude to Solidarność, etc. Walicki’s perception of Polish position in Europe depicts his characteristic statement: „Poland stands a better chance as west of east than periphery of west. [...] Russians are the only nation for which polish culture is significant, where the name of Mickiewicz is widely known. It is our cultural, spiritual capital that should be care for”. Since 1956 Polish system has been far away from standards of totalitarianism. In fact, that time Poland has become distant from the totalitarian model. Walicki has always criticized Polish foreign politics when it started to be defeated by different nationalist phobias.

Opis:
The 100th anniversary of creation of the quazi parliament in the form of the State Duma as the Lower Chamber and in general reorganized State Council as the Upper Chamber takes place in 2006 and is of great interest not only historians but also of the specialists in study of literature, as they watch and research the social changes in the Russian state organization and can’t stand paying attention to the influence of this event on the political consciousness of the Russians of the first decade of the XXth century which was consolidated in a lot of works, also works of literature. The subject of the article is to show the attitude to that event of the Polish society, especially of the Poles from the Polish Kingdom, which was under the Russian reign in those times. The author represents this attitude through the utterances of the most influential people of the Polish public opinion, such as: Bolesław Prus, Jozef Piłsudski, Wladysław Studnicki, Tadeusz Grużewski, Hipolit Korwin-Milewski, Konstanty Skirmunt and gen. Jan Jacyna, also the utterances of the leading figures of ND, PPS and the editors of the popular „Kurier Warszawski”.A conclusion, to which the author comes on the basis of this discourse, is the following: inPolish opinion, in the majority of cases the skepticism prevailed, which regarded the reformatory possibilities of the Duma and also the attitude to the new system in Russia, which replaced the former autocratic tsarist absolutism in 1906, as a system, which, despite all its limitations, nevertheless was constitutional, and of Russia itself, as a monarchy, already representative.

Opis:

Georgy Michajlovskij
World War I
Russian literature
Russian political discourse
Opis:
Russian diplomat Georgy N. Michajlowskij’s personal notes recorded in the years 1914-1920, and published in two volumes in 1993 in the series: Russia in Diplomats’ Memories, have been the main base to write this article. Being a worker of state ap-paratus of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Pievcheskij Bridge in Petersburg, Michajlowskij took part in a hard activity of the Russian diplomacy during the very hot events of the World War I and revolution times. He witnessed the fall of tcharism, short period of the Provisional Government’s govern, but after Bolshevik upheaval on October 7, 1917 he faced the very full of tension weeks when his department was taken over by Lev Trockij and communist commissars. He obviously was forced to leave the Office. Having joined the White Guard movement in 1917, he worked during the next three years’ time as a diplomat at Gen. Anton lvanovich Denikin in Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog as well at Gen. baron Pyotr Wrangel in Sevastopol. He participated in many White Guard diplomatic missions to Constantinople, Paris, London, Romę and Washington where he frequently met and cooperated with the last three Tsarist ministers of foreign affairs – Sergey Dmitriyevich Sazonov, Boris W. Sturmer, Nikolai M. Pokrovskij and then, among others, with Michail I. Tereszczenko, Pavel N. Milukov, Wasyl A. Maklakow and Peter B. Struwe who became the successors and leaders of the former Russia’s policy realised then by the Provisional Government and by the White Guard movement as well. So, he had the unique opportunity to describe almost all main figures of the Russian political and social drama which action was setting itself before his eyes. The artide is focusing on some Polish motifs, too. Generally, they are based on Michajlowskij’s writings which can be regarded as very interesting and valuable historical sources, relevant to the Polish question of the time, particularly when their author used to act on behalf of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in different commissions and committees that had been appointed to resolve the Polish question. One should pay the special attention to changeable attitudes towards the Polish question expressed by different Russian authorities.
