Opis:
This paper is made NOx pollution emitted by port auxiliary vessels, specifically by harbour tugs, due to its unique operating characteristics of operation, require a large propulsion power changes discontinuously, also possess some peculiar technical characteristics, large tonnage and high propulsive power, that differentiate them from other auxiliary vessels of the port. Taking into account all the above features, there are no studies of the NOx emission engines caused by different working regimes of power because engine manufacturers have not measured these emissions across the range of operating power, but usually we only report the pollution produced by its engines to a maximum continuous power.

Recent technological changes in the Polish power industry have created opportunities for reducing NOx and CO emissions, but - at the same time - created another operation problem: sulphur corossion of boilers' rear water-wall. This has been the motivation for performing a detailed study of the air flow and pulverized coal transport in low-NOx burners. A measuring stand was built inside a real medium power OP-230 boiler equipped with a low-NOx burner to measure the velocity field at the burner's outlet and to prepare experimental characteristics of the burner. To extend the description, a numerical model of the burner was constructed and numerical calculations were executed by means of the Fluent program. Numerically calculated velocity profiles were compared with the results of measurements. Further investigations of the low NOx burner included the flow of the air-pulverized coal mixture. The measured concentration of the coal dust was compared with numerically predicted distribution of particles. Both the measurements and the calculations have shown a highly non-uniform concentration of particles at the burner outlet. The obtained results have been helpful in formulating recommendations to improve burner geometry.

Opis:
Exhaust gases recirculation systems (EGR), together with catalytic reactors, are commonly installed in modern piston combustion engines. Their purpose is to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxides (NOx) emitted in fumes. The need for this reduction takes its source from introducing more rigorous EURO standards, which are treating about maximum levels of NOx, HC and particulates produced, as a side effect of engine's operation. Applied exhausts recirculation circuits can be roughly characterized by a principle, that a part of exhaust gases is redirected (through a cooler) and reaches a special valve. This valve, respectively to engine's current load and speed, drives more or less exhaust to suction manifold. The position of the valve determines the system’s overall efficiency, but also differentiates the amount of toxic gases and smoke produced by each of the engines cylinders. Recent research have focused only on the overall efficiency of recirculation systems, representing it by measuring the total amount of NOx particles emission from exhaust pipe. However, the quantity of exhaust gases that is reaching each cylinder can be negatively dependant on EGR valve’s physical position in the circuit. This happens due to the fact that combusted loads have different proportions of charged air and fuel. For estimating the difference among each of the loads, and in the same time, indirectly, in equal emission of NOx from corresponding cylinders, a research was carried out on a model VW 2.0 TDI engine, equipped with standard, factory mounted, exhausts gases recirculation circuit. Measurements of toxic emissions were executed with regards to thirteen-point ESC (European Stationary Cycle) test.

Otrzymanane wyniki były pomocne w tworzeniu wytycznych modernizacji palnika.

The present state of air quality is determined according to emission and imission situation of basic pollutants. According to the obtained information about the state of air quality, the development of imission and emission presently exhibits a decreasing tendency caused especially by industrial production innovations in European countries, with slight rises in renewable energy sources for electricity production, but especially the effort to improve the condition relates to the use of mandatory quotas and pollution charges in the European Union. The aim of the this article is to review the emission development in the year 1998 up to 2013 for Central European countries – Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland and their comparison to the European average value of the released emission. The NOx and particulate matter PM10, PM2,5 were evaluated as pollutants, which over the last few years have contaminated the air and in particular the main environment.

Opis:
The paper contains the results of the tests of the oxide, platinum and combined oxide-platinum catalytic reactor model used in the NH3-SCR system. As regards the combined oxide-platinum catalyst the first reactor block was extracted from the oxide catalyst used in trucks. As the second module of the reactor a block with platinum acting as a catalyst was used with 2.5g/dm3 platinum load. The only differences between the combined reactor system and the single platinum and oxide catalysts were connected with the reactors volume which in the case of the single reactors was two times higher than the volume of the corresponding blocks of the combined system. During the tests the ammonia concentration in the engine exhaust gases at the inlet of the reactors was set to 400 ppm. The article contains the results of the physical and chemical active surface structure tests of the reactors with their active surface chemical microanalysis and its topographic pictures performed and taken with the Scanning Electron Microscope. The results obtained from the tests of the influence of the reactor type on the NOX and NO conversion and the content of NO2 in NOX are presented in this article in the form of the function of their operating temperature. Additionally, the results of measured ammonia slip at the outlet of the reactors are presented. The obtained results have shown that the usage of the combined oxide-platinum reactor allows for widening the SCR system effective operating temperature range with a low ammonia slip at its outlet. This was achieved by use of the platinum reactor block which features a high nitric oxides conversion efficiency at the operating temperatures which are lower than those of the oxide catalyst and which can also provide the high ammonia spices conversion rangeto lower the ammonia slip at system outlet.

Opis:
The dynamic expansion of road transport is clearly noticeable by natural environment and by human being (with its positive and negative aspects). Pollution emission with its negative impact on the environment results from fuel combustion in motor engine. Taking into consideration the sustainable statement in scope of road transport, it is necessary to prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment (considering state of environmental background) during the stages of planning and taking decison. This thesis describes CO and NOx emission from road vehicle estimated by current valid emission indicators and noting down traffic quantitative-qualitative composition for the selected section of roads in Wrocław. Results of calculation were presented in terms of elass of vehicles and compared to each other. The least difference in emission, considering different groups of vehicles, is observable for passenger cars and small buses (passenger vans). The biggest discrepancy - in regard to results achieved by aforementioned emission estimation - was noticed for lorries (trucks, heavy duty vehicles). It is important to pay attention to the fact that emission indicators show averaged results for all groups of vehicles moving around a country. At the same time European emission standards are based on more strict estimation methods that take into account number of cars from a specific group moving within an analyzed section of the road and their highest allowed emission level (approved limits of their emission).

The article contains the results of the simulation tests of oxidizing catalytic reactor obtained by use of the AVL Boost simulation application. The chemical reactions and the reactions rates on which computations were based are specified in this paper. The simulations were related to the influence of the catalytic reactor volume and reactor’s cells quantity influence on the carbon oxide, hydrocarbons and nitric oxides conversion levels. The influence on the nitric oxides conversion was presented in this paper as the content of NO and NO2 in NOX. The simulated computations were performed separately for the variable reactor volume ranging from 1 to 2.2 dm3 with a step of 0.4 dm3 and for the variable reactor cells quantity ranging from 200 to 600 cells per square inch with a step of 100 cpsi. As the input data for the simulation computations the actual values of the toxic compounds concentrations in the exhaust gases at the outlet of the Diesel engine were used. The measurements of the toxic compounnds were made at the chosen engine steady state work points and are presented in this paper as a graph of the toxic gases concentrations in the form of the function of the engine torque. The simulation computaitons were performed for the same points and their results are also presented in the form of the function of the engine torque. The Results presented in this paper have shown that the increase in the CO, HC and NOX conversion in the case of the oxide catalyst can be obtained both by increasing the reactor volume and its cells quantity. It also have been observed that the increase in the reactor cells quantity and volume is not proportional as regards the toxic gases conversion increase and lowers in the case of higher values of the simulated reactor parameters.

Introduction and objective: This paper is concerned with the harmful impact of nitric oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) on humans. The objective was to determine which source of emission is the most urgent in terms of its reduction.Abbreviated description of the state of knowledge: In published epidemiological studies multiple notifications indicating the harmful impact of particulate matter on human health can be found. The harmful impact is underscored by the increase in the number of hospitalisations owing to diseases of respiratory and cardio-vascular systems, as well as by the rise in general fatality rate. The analysis of the PM impact on the human body is prompted by the fact that its detrimental effects are not clearly defined. Additionally, nitric oxides contribute to the increased number of exacerbations of respiratory disease and are a factor increasing susceptibility to development of local inflammation. Conclusions: The following study is meant to show that the air pollution which derives from vehicles (NOx and PM) has a significant impact on human health. This applies particularly to residents of cities and big towns. This issue has gained special importance in Poland. According to the data from the Central Statistical Office, the increasing number of vehicles in use and their age lead to increased emission of the pollutants considered.

Road transport has become the major source of environmental pollution and it is also one of the biggest environmental risks in the EU countries. Good air quality is very important for population as pollutants have negative impacts on human health. The paper deals with relationship between air pollutants generated by road transport and the life expectancy in EU countries. At the beginning of the paper the main pollutants from motor vehicles are described and impact on human health is summarized too. We use regression analysis of panel data to analyse the relationship between chosen air pollutants and life expectancy. Our results show negative impacts of nitrogen oxide and sulphur oxide, specifically reduction in life expectancy by 1.49 years for nitrogen oxides and 0.28 years for sulphur oxides with an increase of the pollutant by 1%. So according to our findings economic policy makers should focus primarily on the reduction of nitrogen and sulphur oxides.
