Opis:
During the diagnostic research done by means of optical devices equipped with radiation sources from the near infrared range the phenomena indicating the perception possibility of this range by a human eye were observed. In this contribution the initial results of the research of this phenomenon were presented. Sources of radiation applied in laser polarimeters (785 nm) and devices designed for optical coherent tomography (820, 850 nm) were taken into particular consideration. Perception tests with the use of a laser diode generating at the wavelength of 940 nm were also carried out. It was stated that the radiation from the range examined can be recorded by a human eye giving a colour sensation - in practice independently of the wavelength of the radiation beam falling into a retina.

Opis:
This paper presents comparison of prototype location system built with standard components of 2.4 and 5 GHz WLAN network infrastructure. The system can be used for personal or other objects’ positioning, both for indoor and outdoor environments. The system is local, i.e. its operational area is limited to WLAN network operating range. The system is based on standard and widely available WLAN components (access points, network adapters). The goal is to avoid any hardware and software modifications. Also position calculation should not be power hungry operation. Method of location is based in Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) returned by most of RF ICs (including WLAN). The main focus is research of how much accuracy (and usefulness) can be expected from standard WLAN hardware. Both static and dynamic scenarios have been tested and compared.

Opis:
The supermode generation in a multicore optical fibre laser can be realised by phase-locking of radiation inside of the fibre. The model proposed by authors implies the achievement of supermode generation by exchanging radiation between the cores during the development of the laser action. The analysis of the impact of coupling value between the cores on phase radiation of particular emitters was considered. In the paper the phase-locking of 19-core optical fibre doped with Yb3+ ions is presented. The analysis of material and geometrical parameters of the active 19 -core optical fibre and phase deviation on the beam quality factor of the laser beam in the far-field diffraction region has been analysed. The beam quality factor of the manufactured multicore fibre equals BQF = 0.71, V = 2.4, d = 18 ěm. As a result of the conducted analysis a double-clad 19 – cores optical fibre doped with ytterbium ions has been designed and fabricated and its luminescence spectra and far-field diffraction pattern have been measured. Registered in the experiment in MOFPA system far-field pattern showed centrally located peak of relatively high radiation intensity together with smaller side-lobes, and as such was similar to the pattern which had been obtained numerically.

Opis:
The article brings into focus the present state of technology employing active fibres doped with rare earth (RE) ions for applications requiring power supply of several dozen watts and broadband ASE sources. Current trends in development of glasses and in construction of active fibres used in fibre sources of radiation within VIS-NIR range are presented. Technological constraints in the doping of fibre core glasses are discussed, with particular consideration of optimal RE concentration for technical applications. Characteristics of glasses are offered, and the glasses are used for manufacturing optical fibres with luminescence within the visible as well as near- and mid-infrared ranges. Also, requirements and luminescence properties concerning glasses co-doped with e.g. Nd3+/Yb3+,Tm3+/Ho3+ and Yb3+/Tb3+ are discussed. Results of research on the impact of technological parameters of glass matrices on luminescence properties of core glasses and optical fibres are quoted. For the doped glasses of which luminescence in a wide spectral range is desired, conditions for their processing into optical fibre systems are mentioned. Additionally, the impact of phonon energy in the glass on producing emission in a specified spectral range is analyzed. Furthermore, the article presents directions of technological studies to solve problems persisting in the phase of glass matrix design, as well as in determining the influence of fibre drawing process on the luminescence properties of core glasses and optical fibres, confirming the differences in luminescence stemming from the drawing process. Finally, some original designs of core glasses and active multicore fibre systems devised for construction of fibre radiation sources are presented.

Opis:
W artykule przestawiono wyniki prac nad zastosowaniem dwóch nowych typów światłowodów domieszkowanych jonami ziem rzadkich do budowy laserów włóknowych.
The high power, short pulse generation in a fibre lasers is limited by nonlinear effects (Raman and Brillouin scattering, self - phase modulation). Therefore it's necessary to find innovative constructions of rare-earth doped optical fibres considerably different from conventional double-clad optical fibres. In the paper the possibility of applying new optical fibers as an active material for constructing high-power fiber lasers is presented. Multicore active optical fibre is one of new construction. Such a fibre enables attaining a high-intensity and low-divergence laser beam (supermod) in the far-field diffraction region (Fig. 2, 4). Second type of new active optical fibre is helical - core optical fibre. Due to a specific shape of the core such fibre is characterized by effective absorption of pump radiation. Moreover, optimization of material and geometrical optical fibre properties enables to increase volume of active material (core diameter) while single mode operation is preserved. The luminescence spectra of both types of manufactured optical fibres doped with Nd3+ are presented (Fig. 7, 8, 12).
