Opis:
This paper firstly expands an efficient numerical methodology developed from the source panel method to the added mass calculation of long column systems in fluid. Structures submerged in fluid are considered as two-dimensional and are discretized into a number of source panels. The influence coefficient matrices and the potential function are then calculated and the fluid forces are calculated by the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Finally, we utilize this present method to calculate the mass coefficients of some typical problems, which effectively verifies its feasibility and accuracy. This method takes into account both applicability and computational efficiency. On the one hand, in contrast to the analytical method which is only applicable to specific cross-sections, this method is applicable to arbitrary boundaries with C0 continuity in mathematics. On the other hand, this method requires less mesh and computation than commercial software. This paper extends the application of the source panel method which is widely used in aerodynamics to provide a reference for added mass calculation problems in engineering.

Opis:
A scaffold knit with natural sericin-free silk fibroin fiber possesses desirable mechanical properties, biocompatibility, ease of fabrication, and slow degradability. However, regenerated silk fibroin degrades faster than natural silk. In this study, natural silk fibroin fiber mesh-like scaffolds were prepared by a weft-knitting method and the pores were filled with sponge-like regenerated silk fibroin-collagen I. The microporous sponge and mesh-like scaffolds were fused to achieve gradient degradation of the scaffolds, and rabbit bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) were seeded onto the scaffolds to form scaffold–BMSCs composites. The composites were implanted into gap defects made in the rabbit Achilles tendon. Twenty weeks after implantation, histological observation showed that tendon-like tissue had formed, collagen I mRNA was expressed, abundant collagen was generated, and that there was no obvious degradation of silk. The maximum load of the neo-Achilles tendon was 62.14% that of the natural Achilles tendon. These outcomes were superior to those obtained in the group implanted with a scaffold without BMSCs. These findings suggest the feasibility of constructing tissue-engineered tendons using weft-knitted silk scaffolds incorporated with sponge-like regenerated silk fibroin/collagen I and seeded with BMSCs, and show potential of the scaffold–BMSCs composites to repair Achilles tendon defects.

Opis:
Aneuploidy often presents large variations in morphology, physiology, biochemistry, and genetics owing to karyotypic imbalance. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of aneuploid breeding in Echinacea purpurea L, an important medicinal plant. Reciprocal crosses between diploid and triploid plants were performed to generate aneuploid plants. Cross with triploid as female parent resulted in increased production of aneuploid individuals (19 of 23; 82.61%), while using diploid as female parent yielded much higher percentage of diploid progenies (130 of 133; 97.74%). Each aneuploid had particular karyotypic characteristics compared to the parents. The proportions of median, submedian, and subterminal centromere location chromosomes in gross chromosomes among aneuploids and two parents showed large variations. Although aneuploids had relatively lower adventitious bud regeneration rates than their parents, almost half of them looked morphologically normal, with high survival rates when transplanted to ex vitro conditions. Among the bioactive compounds assessed, cichoric acid and chlorogenic acid contents were extremely encouraging. Most aneuploids had higher cichoric acid and chlorogenic acid contents than their parents. For example, A2 had the highest cichoric acid content of 21.98 mg/g dry weight, more than twice the values of diploid and triploid. Meanwhile, A21 had the highest chlorogenic acid content of 1.84 mg/g, approximately five times more than the parental values. Eleven superior aneuploid lines were successfully screened as breeding candidates. The present findings indicated E. purpurea is highly tolerant of karyotypic imbalance and aneuploid plants could serve as prospective breeding resources in E. purpurea.

Opis:
This paper focuses on the problem of constraint control for a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems. Firstly, a new discrete T–S fuzzy hyperbolic model is proposed to represent a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems. By means of the parallel distributed compensation (PDC) method, a novel asymptotic stabilizing control law with the “soft” constraint property is designed. The main advantage is that the proposed control method may achieve a small control amplitude. Secondly, for an uncertain discrete T–S fuzzy hyperbolic system with external disturbances, by the proposed control method, the robust stability and H performance are developed by using a Lyapunov function, and some sufficient conditions are established through seeking feasible solutions of some linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to obtain several positive diagonally dominant (PDD) matrices. Finally, the validity and feasibility of the proposed schemes are demonstrated by a numerical example and a Van de Vusse one, and some comparisons of the discrete T–S fuzzy hyperbolic model with the discrete T–S fuzzy linear one are also given to illustrate the advantage of our approach.

Opis:
To effectively predict traffic fatalities and promote the friendly development of transportation, a prediction model of traffic fatalities is established based on support vector machine (SVM). As the prediction accuracy of SVM largely depends on the selection of parameters, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is introduced to find the optimal parameters. In this paper, small sample and nonlinear data are used to predict fatalities of traffic accident. Traffic accident statistics data of China from 1981 to 2012 are chosen as experimental data. The input variables for predicting accident are highway mileage, vehicle number and population size while the output variables are traffic fatality. To verify the validity of the proposed prediction method, the back-propagation neural network (BPNN) prediction model and SVM prediction model are also used to predict the traffic fatalities. The results show that compared with BPNN prediction model and SVM model, the prediction model of traffic fatalities based on PSO-SVM has higher prediction precision and smaller errors. The model can be more effective to forecast the traffic fatalities. And the method using particle swarm optimization algorithm for parameter optimization of SVM is feasible and effective. In addition, this method avoids overcomes the problem of “over learning” in neural network training progress.

Opis:
Plate-like structures in channel flow are commonly found in engineering. This paper reports a theoretical study on the static aeroelastic instability of an inverted cantilevered plate in an inviscid channel flow through the state space. This study begins with the kernel function of the flow potential determined in the Fourier domain with the help of the mirror image method. Then, the instability equation is derived from the operator theory and transformed in the state space. Finally, with Glauert’s expansion, model functions, and error functions, the instability problem of such a plate has been modeled as a mathematical function approximation problem and solved by the least squares method. The derived instability equation is considered at the continuum level of description, and no approximation appears at the first equation level. The convergence and reliability of the proposed modeling and its solutions approximation are entirely tested, and it can successfully predict the instability boundary, behavior, and the channel effect. Numerical results show that the decreased channel height and asymmetric plate placement in the channel significantly decrease the critical flow velocity. The plate instability modes are close to the plate’s first natural ones and not sensitive to the channel parameters. This conclusion allows further theoretical exploration of a semi-analytical approximation of the instability boundary from the obtained instability equation. The current modeling strategy in a continuum sense may provide a new idea and essential reference for other instability problems.

Opis:
Oxetane-based polymers substituted with difluoroamino groups can be used as energetic binders in propellants and polymer-bonded explosives (PBXs). As a novel candidate, poly(3-difluoroaminomethyl-3-methyloxetane/3-nitratomethyl-3-methyloxetane) (PDN) was synthesized and its structure was established. Thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were employed to investigate its thermal decomposition behaviour. The compatibility between PDN and some common ingredients of propellants and PBXs was evaluated by the DSC method. PDN with good thermal stability was synthesized via a cationic solution polymerization process. Additionally, it has improved compatibility with cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine (HMX), carbon black (C.B.) and lead carbonate (PbCO3) compared with homopoly(3-difluoroaminomethyl-3-methyloxetane) (PDFAMO). PDN could be used as a promising difluoroamino energetic binder in the future.
