- One of the key issues related to the welfare and safety of livestock production, i.e., broadly understood biosecurity in a farm, is the application of disinfectants that are safe for animals and effective with a broad spectrum of biocidal activity. On the market many commercial products are available but they appear final formulation, what may complicate the correct selection of effective agents for farm disinfection as well as the farm surroundings. During the last few years, interest in nanoparticles has been observed in many areas of human and veterinary medicine. Meanwhile, nanoparticles may also be considered as alternative to antibiotics in farm animals, as prevention of resistant bacterial strains development. Many of the recent results in nanoparticles research they can be used in parallel as an active compound in products with broad biocidal activity. Considering speculations regarding the potential harmful effects of accumulation of some elements used as active nanoparticles, the presented paper aims to dispel them by presenting a multifactorial and detailed scientific research. Regarding all the advantages of nanoparticles in human and veterinary medicine, this technology seems to be the future in the field of modern therapies and biosecurity. Currently, the most in-depth experience in application of the silver nanoparticles has a Polish company - Smart Nanotechnologies producing Silveco+ formulation.
