Opis:
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have always been a useful tool for visualization and processing of geospatial data. However, their capabilities of analysis non-standard information such as hydroacoustic soundings has thus far been very limited. This paper proposes a general-purpose GIS which uses techniques such as OLAP, WCS and WCPS for processing of multidimensional spatio-temporal data. The versatility of the GIS is exemplified by performing a set of analysis operations on a time series of soundings collected via a multibeam echosounder.

Opis:
The paper focuses on a comparison of different positioning methods provided by free and open source software (FOSS) package called RTKLIB. The RTKLIB supports real‐time and post‐processed positioning. The most important modes of operation tested by the authors are Kinematic, Static, Fixed and Precise Point Positioning (PPP). The data for evaluation were obtained from low‐cost Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver. The tested receiver was based on the u‐bloxʹs LEA‐6T GNSS module. This receiver provides different types of information including raw carrier phase measurements. It gives the possibility for centimeter‐level precision of positioning. As the supporting source of data ASG‐EUPOS system was used. ASG‐EUPOS is a Polish network of GNSS reference stations providing the real‐time corrections and post processing services for the entire territory of Poland.

Opis:
To forecast the optimum route passage of a vessel in the real weather conditions using the so-called velocity characteristics of the ship. These are developed in the way, as to have a very simple form, which can not guarantee high precision in calculating the speed of the vessel. The paper presents a mathematical model of the external forces operating in the vessel and the algorithm to solve this model for calculating the instantaneous speed of the vessel in the selected weather conditions. Made of a computer program, after appropriate research and testing, can be used to optimize the transport route of the ship.

vessel’s speed calculation
Opis:
Optimising the ship route is one of the most important tasks related to the operation of the vessel, its safety, and economic aspects of transport. Nevertheless, from a mathematical point of view, this problem has not been solved yet sufficiently precisely due to very high complexity of the model to be used to describe the motion of the ship along the shipping line, and time- and space-dependent average values of statistical weather parameters recorded during ship sailing. That is why various approximate methods are used, which, among other procedures, utilize ship speed characteristics, having the form of very simple relations between basic dimensions of the ship and the expected speed decrease at the assumed weather parameters. The paper presents a new method of calculating the speed decrease depending on technical and operating parameters of a given vessel. A computer code prepared based on this method is used for research on forecasting ship speed in real weather conditions.

Opis:
This paper presents conclusions from the last development phase of the “Voice Maps” project. Authors specify newly found available options for navigation in affordable system for the blind with all their related aspects. System uses dedicated geographical data, built-in smartphone GPS receivers and DGPS external device in order to assist blind users in their everyday travelling. Authors also discuss new methods to improve positioning accuracy and navigation reliability (map matching and remote pathfinding) along with interface modules for the blind.

Opis:
Polymer fibres have the great potential for application due to their large surface area relative to volume, incomparably large length relative to the cross-section, high strength and ease of forming the nonwovens in thermal processing. Due to the specific properties of textiles, they are applied, among others in the manufacture of filters, sensors, biomedical devices and protective clothing. This study was aimed to evaluate the surface morphology of polypropylene nonwoven modified with metallic layers CuSn, CuZnNi, NiCuFe, deposited by the magnetron sputtering technique. There was also carried out a qualitative and quantitative analysis of deposited thin layers and their compositions were compared with compositions of targets used for magnetrons. The surface morphology was tested using the metallographic optical microscope with a CF160 optical system and the scanning electron microscope adapted to work in an environmental mode. A study of composition was based on a microanalysis using the energy dispersive X-ray radiation deriving from the excited atoms (EDS).

Opis:
The article presents the client-server approach in the navigation system for the blind - “Voice Maps”. The authors were among the main creators of the prototype and currently the commercialization phase is being finished. In the implemented prototype only exemplary, limited spatial data were used, therefore they could be stored and analyzed (for pathfinding process) in the mobile device’s memory without any difficulties. The resulting increase of spatial data scale and complexity required a modification of the data storage and operation. Consequently, the decision was made to maintain a central spatial database, which is accessed remotely. After that modification, the mobile application fetches the required batch of spatial data (with the pathfinding and search results) from the central server through the mobile internet connection, which has also become necessary for other purposes (e.g. voice recognition). The authors present the advantages and disadvantages of this new approach along with the results of the server operational tests.
