Opis:
The ring ultrasonic transducers are widely used in the ocean engineering and medical fields. This paper employs an extended orthogonal polynomial approach to solve the guided wave propagation in two-dimensional structures, i.e. piezoelectric rings with rectangular cross- -sections. The extended polynomial approach can overcome the drawbacks of the conven- tional orthogonal polynomial approach which can be used to solve wave propagation in one-dimensional structures. Through numerical comparison with the available results for a rectangular aluminum bar, the validity of the present approach is illustrated. The dispersion curves and displacement and electric potential distributions of various rectangular piezo- electric rings are calculated, and the effects of different radius to thickness ratios, width to height ratios and polarizing directions on the dispersion curves are illustrated.

Opis:
Large scaled projects are conducted in South Yellow Sea in recent years. Topographic effect and tidal current are key issues to the coastal engineering and the ocean engineering. In this study, field surveys were conducted to investigate the tidal level, current velocity, and current direction in South Yellow Sea. A numerical model was developed to simulate the radial current field based on the field data. To investigate the mechanism of the radial current field, the actual topography and a smoothed topography were applied in the numerical model, respectively. Results show that, the current field appeares radial because of the tidal system rather than the submarine topography. Local topography centralized the radiation centre and shifted the high-velocity zones. The actual topographic effect is proposed, and results show that local topography increases the flood tide velocity and decreases the ebb tide velocity. Lagrangian residual currents are calculated to illustrate possible sediment sources and transport routes.

Opis:
It is known previously that bulk metallic glass compositions satisfy cluster formulae $[cluster](glue atom)_{1, 3}$ of 24 valence electrons as deduced from our cluster-resonance model. In the present work, it is further shown that compositions of Al-based binary and ternary quasicrystals are also explained by 24-electron cluster formulae of the types $[icosahedron](glue atom)_{0, 1}$, where the icosahedral cluster is identified from a corresponding crystalline approximant according to dense atomic packing and cluster isolation criteria, and the glue atom site is either vacant for an icosahedral quasicrystal or equal to one for a decagonal quasicrystal. Ternary quasicrystals are formulated with the same formulae as their basic binary ones but the icosahedron shell sites are substituted by third elements. The 24-electron cluster formulae are then the chemical and electronic structural units of quasicrystals, mimicking the molecular formulae of chemical substances.

Opis:
The digital holographic phase microscopy (DHPM) technique which has been proposed for cellular morphology and dynamic analysis yielded highly desirable results. However, for nucleated cells (especially white blood cells (WBCs)), their submicroscopic structure has not yet been deconstructed through a phase unwrapping method due to the heterogeneity of an internal phase. By analyzing the phase heterogeneity of subclasses of WBCs, the typical phase models of them are built first in this paper; using the simulation method, the wrapped phase distributions of these models are obtained. However, by optimizing the wrapped phase maps and analyzing the relationships between them and typical blood cells, their features are selected and extracted. Then the models built are sorted out from each other successfully without unwrapping via analyzing these extracted features, which provides a valuable approach and technological base for the classification and identification of blood cells.
