    Paul Tillich was one of those important theologians of the 20th century who devoted much attention to issues related to theological theory of knowledge. In Tillich’s thought, God is the mystery of being infinitely close to man, but human cognition of this mystery is always mediated. This article analyzes the question of mediation in human cognition of God in the thought of the great protestant theologian. First, the mediating, symbolic character of all religious language is presented. Then the mediating nature of theology is analyzed. The third part presents the importance of mediation in human cognition of ultimate reality. The conducted research leads to the conclusion that, according to Tillich, there is no other way of thinking and talking about God than mediated in the created world. God ultimately remains a mystery that is revealed to us through the reality that surrounds us.

    Pośrednictwo pozostaje do dziś jednym z ważnych tematów dialogu ekumenicznego. Punktem wyjścia dla refleksji nad teologicznym pośrednictwem zawsze pozostaje pośrednictwo Chrystusa. Niniejszy artykuł analizuje, jak funkcjonowało ono w myśli jednego z wielkich teologów protestanckich XX wieku, Paula Tillicha. Najpierw przedstawiona została jego koncepcja Logosu, właśnie jako pośrednika. Potem ukazana zostła Tillicha koncepcja Wcielenia, którą można przedstawić jako koncepcję kluczowego zapośredniczenia się Boga w świecie, a następnie Tillichowa ocena dogmatu chrystologicznego. Przeprowadzone analizy pozwolą spojrzeć z pewną świeżością na tak istotną ekumenicznie kwestię, jaką jest teologiczne pośrednictwo. Autentyczne pośrednictwo jest ostatecznie darem Boga, a nie produktem człowieka.
    Mediation remains one of the important topics of ecumenical dialogue to this day. The mediation of Christ always remains the starting point for reflection on theological mediation. The present article shows how it functioned in the thought of one of the great Protestant theologians of the 20th century, Paul Tillich. First, his concept of the Logos will be presented as a medium. Then Tillich's concept of the Incarnation will be presented, which can be called the concept of the main mediated presence of God in the world, and then Tillich's assessment of Christological dogma. The following analyzes will allow us to take a fresh look at such an important ecumenical issue as theological mediation. Authentic mediation is ultimately a gift of God and not a product of man.

    Paul Tillich, jeden z największych teologów protestanckich XX wieku, jest twórcą oryginalnego systemu teologicznego, w którym centralne miejsce zajmuje chrystologia. Choć teolog niechętnie operował pojęciem pośrednictwa, w swoim dziele przedstawił Chrystusa właśnie jako Pośrednika objawienia i zbawienia. Chrystologia Tillicha stanowi cenne źródło dla refleksji nad tym, czym jest pośrednictwo i według jakich zasad powinno być rozumiane i przedstawiane w teologii. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia zasady kształtowania teologii pośrednictwa w oparciu o myśl Tillicha. W pierwszej części zasady te zostaną wyliczone i omówione, w drugiej zaś wyprowadzone zostaną wnioski związane z teologią i praktyką katolicką. Myśl Tillicha w tym zakresie okazuje się cennym przyczynkiem do dialogu ekumenicznego, skoro temat pośrednictwa stanowił od czasów reformacji jedną z głównych osi sporu międzywyznaniowego.
    Paul Tillich, one of the greatest Protestant theologians of the twentieth century, is the creator of an original theological system in which Christology plays a central role. Although the theologian was reluctant to use the term “mediation”, in his work he presented Christ as the Mediator of revelation and salvation. Tillich's Christology is a valuable source of reflection on what mediation is and on what principles it should be understood and presented in theology. This article presents the principles of shaping the theology of mediation based on the thought of Tillich. In the first part, these principles will be listed and discussed, and in the second part, conclusions related to Catholic theology and practice will be drawn. Tillich's thought in this regard turns out to be a valuable contribution to the ecumenical dialogue, since the topic of mediation has been one of the main fields of the catholic-protestant dispute since the Reformation.

    Zagadnienie zbawczego pośrednictwa Chrystusa jest jednym z kluczowych dla teologii dogmatycznej. Jednym z myślicieli, który w czasach współczesnych przedstawił oryginalną koncepcję soteriologiczną, był Paul Tillich. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia jego teorię. W pierwszym kroku ukazane zostaną poglądy Tillicha na kwestię Jezusa historycznego. Następnie przedstawiona będzie właściwa koncepcja zbawienia jako zwycięstwa nad warunkami egzystencji. Wreszcie omówione zostanie zagadnienie pośrednictwa zbawczego w wydarzeniach paschalnych. Przeprowadzone analizy prowadzą do wniosku, że nie da się oddzielić chrystologii od soteriologii, a także nie da się uprawiać teologii bez operowania kategorią pośrednictwa.
    The question of the redemptive mediation of Christ is one of the key issues in dogmatic theology. One of the thinkers who presented the original concept of soteriology in modern times was Paul Tillich. This article presents his theory. In the first step, Tillich's views on the question of historical Jesus will be presented. Then the concept of salvation as a victory over the conditions of existence will be analyzed. Finally, the issue of redemptive mediation in paschal events will be discussed. The conducted analyzes lead to the conclusion that it is impossible to separate Christology from soteriology, and it is also impossible to build theology without using the category of mediation.

    Pośrednictwo Kościoła stanowi dziś dla wielu osób wierzących trudność, szczególnie w kontekście pewnego kryzysu wizerunkowego kościelnych instytucji. Dlatego tak istotne jest, by pokazywać teologiczne podstawy i zasady pośrednictwa Kościoła w dziele zbawienia człowieka. Niniejszy artykuł czyni to, analizując pod kątem idei pośrednictwa eklezjologię Paula Tillicha, jednego z wielkich teologów protestanckich XX wieku. Takie spojrzenie na myśl protestanckiego uczonego pozwala zrozumieć, że nie ma teologii chrześcijańskiej bez pośredniczącej roli Kościoła. W pierwszej części przeanalizowane zostanie pojęcie Kościoła jako Duchowej wspólnoty. Następnie ukazana zostanie pośrednicząca rola Kościoła w jego funkcjach, potem zaś przedstawione będzie pośrednictwo Kościoła w duchowym wzroście chrześcijanina. Pośrednicząca rola Kościoła opiera się na fundamencie działania Ducha Świętego i dotyczy w pierwszej kolejności pośrednictwa wspólnoty wiary, a nie jakichś konkretnych rozwiązań instytucjonalnych.
    The mediation of the Church is difficult to accept for many believers today, especially in the context of a crisis of the church institutions. That is why it is so important to show the theological foundations and principles of the Church's mediation in the work of human salvation. This article does so by examining the ecclesiology of one of the great Protestant theologians of the 20th century, Paul Tillich, in terms of the idea of mediation. This view of the thought of the Protestant thinker makes it possible to understand that there is no Christian theology without the mediating role of the Church. In the first part, the concept of the Church as a Spiritual Community will be analyzed. Then, the mediating role of the Church in its functions will be presented, and then the mediation of the Church in the spiritual growth of a Christian will be analyzed. The mediating role of the Church is based on the foundation of the action of the Holy Spirit and concerns in the first place the mediation of the community of faith, and not some specific institutional solutions.

    Książka stanowi próbę filozoficznego ujęcia teorii zbawienia dwóch ważnych teologów XX wieku — Edwarda Schillebeeckxa i Paula Tillicha. W pierwszym rozdziale zostaje ukazana sytuacja człowieka potrzebującego zbawienia, ujęta jako egzystencja wyobcowana. Drugi rozdział pokazuje, na czym polega zbawienie według omawianych myślicieli. Chodzi o ukazanie istoty dzieła zbawienia, którą Tillich określał jako Nowy Byt. Z kolei rozdział trzeci poświęcony jest historycznemu wymiarowi zbawienia. Autor pokazuje, że kategoria zbawienia nie jest jakąś religijną fantasmagorią, ale czymś, co dotyczy realnej rzeczywistości i dziejów człowieka. Książka Nadbrzeżnego pokazuje, że myślenie o zbawieniu człowieka jest wciąż aktualne, również na płaszczyźnie filozoficznej. Pokazuje także, że teologia może i powinna ciągle trwać w twórczym dialogu z filozofią.
    Antoni Nadbrzeżny’s book is a work in the field of the philosophy of religion, although it analyzes the ideas of two great theologians of the 20th century —  the German-American Lutheran Paul Tillich and the Flemish Dominican Edward Schillebeeckx. Nadbrzeżny analyzes the soteriological thought of these two thinkers, showing that salvation is not only a matter of religion in the narrow sense of the word, but that it is an important issue for all human reflection on the meaning of life and history. Filozofia zbawienia is a book that builds an important bridge between the worlds of theology and philosophy. Due to the brave step in the form of a philosophical analysis of theological ideas and due to the exposure of the views of outstanding theologians, who are too little appreciated in the Polish debate, the work deserves the highest admiration, even if it may raise some methodological questions or doubts in some recipients.

    W praktyce duszpasterskiej i ewangelizacyjnej Kościoła często pojawia się kwestia tak zwanego obrazu Boga. Chodzi o przekonania i wyobrażenia o Bogu, jakie nosi w swoim sercu człowiek wierzący. Kwestia obrazu Boga jest na tyle kluczowa, że warto przyjrzeć się jej z perspektywy teologicznej. Dla teologii chrześcijańskiej nie ma innego kryterium oceny wszelkich wyobrażeń na temat Boga, jak tylko samo Boże objawienie. Ostatecznym kluczem odczytywania prawdziwości obrazów Boga jest objawienie w Chrystusie, nazywane przez Paula Tillicha objawieniem finalnym. Według Tillicha objawienie to ma moc osądzania i oczyszczania wszelkich doświadczeń religijnych. O ile każdy człowiek ma swoją własną, niepowtarzalną relację z Bogiem, o tyle nie może być innego obrazu Boga niż ten objawiony w Synu – obraz miłości umierającej dla ludzi.
    The problem of the so-called “view of God” is more and more popular in pastoral practice, as well as in evangelization. The term “view of God” refers to images and conceptions, which occurs in the heart of every believer. This topic is so vital that it is definitely worth theological reflection. For the Christian theology, there is only one criterion of all views of God, which is Revelation of God. Revelation in Christ, called by Tillich the final revelation, is an ultimate key to judge all conceptions about God. According to Tillich, this revelation can also judge and purge all religious experiences. It is true that every human being has his own relationship with God, but it is also true that the only one real view of God is that revealed by God himself in his Son. This view is a view of Love dying for the salvation of people.
