- The purpose of this article is to present grammatical achievements of Franciszek Betlejczyk, a nineteenth century linguistic publicist, representing the normative approach. Betlejczyk’s scientific achievements have been presented in the context of accomplishments of Onufry Kopczyński and Jan Niecisław Baudouin de Courtenay, whose dissertation titled “O drěvnepol’skom jazyke do XIV-go stolětija” gave rise to scholarly Polish linguistics. This article discusses Betlejczyk’s most important works, which contain numerous, accurate assessments of the Polish language of the time.
