Opis:
Polarized Raman spectra of high temperature superconducting single crystals of A$\text{}_{10}$Cu$\text{}_{17}$O$\text{}_{29}$ (A$\text{}_{10}$=Ca$\text{}_{4.7}$Sr$\text{}_{4.1}$Bi$\text{}_{0.3}$) were studied in various scattering configurations in the range of 40-700cm$\text{}^{-1}$. In very distinctive spectra there were found over 20 peaks. It was observed that the flat continuum of electronic excitations in the normal state was redistributed below the critical temperature. The frequency dependent redistribution is consistent with the value of energy gap estimated using tunnelling spectroscopy techniques.

Magnetization measurements were performed for intermetallic compounds GdNi$\text{}_{5-x}$Sn$\text{}_{1+x}$ and TbNi$\text{}_{5-x}$Sn$\text{}_{1+x}$ in the temperature range from 4.5 K to 280 K and in magnetic field up to 50 kOe. Complex magnetic phase diagram was revealed for both compounds. The results are discussed assuming three-sublattice magnetic structure and partial disordering of the structure.

Opis:
Magnetization M(T) and M(H) data of single crystals of the S=1/2 quasi-one-dimensional system (A$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{m}$(CuO$\text{}_{2}$)$\text{}_{n}$ with various A-site constituents are compared. The studied orthorhombic, incommensurate crystals are characterized by m/n=5/7,7/10, and 9/13. The role of rare-earth ions located in A-sites is discussed.

Opis:
The results of magnetic measurements performed on geometrically frustrated Ni$\text{}_{3}$V$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8}$ and Ni$\text{}_{3(1-x)}$Co$\text{}_{3x}$V$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8}$ single crystals with x=0.03 are presented. It was found that Co doping did not change considerably the magnetic H-T phase diagram. Although no spin-glass effects were observed, nevertheless, a strong effect of 3 at% cobalt doping was evidenced. The main effect of Co-doping concerns the direction of the antiferromagnetic vector, which for Ni$\text{}_{3}$V$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8}$ appears along the $a$ axis, while for only slightly Co doped crystals - along the $c$ axis. This switching of direction results from distinct changes of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy due to the presence of Co$\text{}^{2+}$ ions strongly coupled to the kagome lattice. The disorder introduced by doping has practically no effect on the magnitude of the isotropic exchange interactions. At the same time the doping suppresses the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interactions due to the change of direction of the antiferromagnetic vector.

Opis:
The static magnetization of the EuBaCo$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{5.5}$ single crystals was measured from helium to room temperatures for two configurations of the applied field: parallel and perpendicular to the c-axis. The compound is antiferromagnetic from helium temperature to about 210 K. In low temperature region (below 45 K) the antiferromagnetism coexists with a spin-glass-like state. The metamagnetic field-induced phase transition was observed in the antiferromagnetic phase for magnetic field applied perpendicular to the c-axis. The spontaneous phase transition from antiferromagnetic to weak ferromagnetic phase was established to be of the first order. This transition is accompanied by the appearance of the intermediate state. The weak ferromagnetic phase exists up to T$\text{}_{c}$=240 K.

Opis:
The second-order anisotropy constant $K_2$ in polycrystalline $Gd_5Si_2Ge_2$ giant magnetocaloric material was measured as a function of temperature by the modified singular point detection technique. Although the structural, electrical, thermal, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of the $Gd_5Si_2Ge_2$ have been rather well investigated experimentally, magnetic anisotropy of this system is almost unknown. The singularity indicating the anisotropy field was determined analyzing ac susceptibility data taking into account several features of the magnetization curve. The temperature dependence of the anisotropy fields was measured from 4.2 K up to the Curie temperature. The observed relationship between $K_2 (T)//K_2$ (0) and magnetization M (T)/M (0) was explained assuming dipolar origin of magnetic anisotropy of $Gd_5Si_2Ge_2$ compound.

The influence of heavy ion irradiation on the magnetic properties of the spin-Peierls compound CuGeO$\text{}_{3}$ has been investigated by means of the electron paramagnetic resonance, the spontaneous magnetization, and the low field ac susceptibility. The measurements were performed on the CuGeO$\text{}_{3}$ single crystals before and after irradiation with 80 MeV oxygen ions in the wide temperature range of 2-300 K. It was found that the irradiation induced an increase in the EPR signal intensity, magnetization, and susceptibility of this material. It was also shown that the irradiation does not lead to a decrease in the spin-Peierls transition temperature and to the formation of an antiferromagnetic phase which is expected to appear in disordered spin-Peierls systems.

For the first time, thin films of $NdBaCo_{2}O_{5+x}$ were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering on different substrates. The films deposited on $SrLaAlO_4(001)$ substrates exhibited highly textured structure with c-axis directed out-of-plane. Magnetic measurements M vs. T of three $NdBaCo_{2}O_{5+x}$/$SrLaAlO_4(001)$ films revealed successively paramagnetic-ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic transitions with decrease in temperature. Their paramagnetic Curie-Weiss temperatures were estimated to be in the range of $T_{C}$ =100-116 K. Resistivity of the cobaltite thin film exhibited insulating behavior and the best fit was found for the variable range hopping mechanism.

The influence of neutron irradiation on the electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of the spin-Peierls compound CuGeO$\text{}_{3}$ was investigated in the wide temperature range 2-300 K. It was found that the irradiation induced appreciable changes in the EPR signal intensity, resonance line width and g-factor of this material. It was also shown that the irradiation leads to a decrease in the spin-Peierls transition temperature. For higher irradiation doses, an antiferromagnetically ordered phase can be observed at lower temperatures. This phase coexists with the spin-Peierls phase. The observed decrease in the spin-Peierls transition temperature after irradiation may be associated with some changes in topological and chemical short-range order or with the transmutation of the fraction of $\text{}^{63}$Cu in the $\text{}^{63}$Cu(n,α)$\text{}^{60}$Co reaction.

We studied the dynamics of the flux jumps in type II superconductors assuming this dynamics to be determined by magnetic diffusion. The conductivity of the sample during the jump was described by the flux flow conductivity, which depends on local magnetic field. We solved this problem numerically for an infinite slab sample. We assumed that superconducting sample was fully penetrated by the magnetic flux at the beginning and that the local induction of the magnetic field, in the whole sample, was equal to $B_0$. Then, the external magnetic field was increased by a value of $ΔB_{a}$ and in the external magnetic field of $B_0 + ΔB_{a}$ flux jump occurred. In our simulations we used the parameters characteristic of a conventional NbTi superconductor at 4.2 K. In particular, we studied the influence of the parameter B_0 on the flux jumps' dynamics. We have found that this parameter strongly influences initial stage of the diffusion process. With increasing $B_0$, the time during which flux front of the avalanche reaches the center of the sample decreases. The results of numerical simulations were compared with experiments.

Opis:
The potassium holmium double tungstate was prepared by using top seeded solution growth technique. Structural investigations have been performed at room temperature. The $KHo(WO_4)_2$ single crystal belongs to the monoclinic space group C2/c with the unit-cell parameters: a = 10.624(2) Å, b = 10.352(2) Å, c = 7.5434(15) Å, β = $130.78(3)^{o}$, and Z = 4. The atomic coordinates, isotropic and anisotropic displacement parameters and interionic distances for the studied structure were determined.
