    The article presents key issues pertaining to the current situation in the national agricultural biogas sector as compared to the European Union. Poland's electric energy generating sector faces the difficult challenge of implementing the EU guidelines regarding the use of energy from renewable resources. Despite the advanced preparation of regulations in that area, the implementation of the Renewable Energy Sources Act has been delayed. The absence of clear legal and financial regulations regarding the support of investors leads to a slow development of the national biogas sector and the loss of its attractiveness. The agricultural biogas sector has a chance of development given the accessible feedstock and is supported by the doubling of agricultural biogas production between 2011-2012.

    W artykule omówiono aktualną sytuację sektora biogazu rolniczego w Polsce, produkcję, zdolności produkcyjne i stopień ich wykorzystania czy atrakcyjność sektora. Przedstawiono aspekty prawne regulujące OZE, w tym dotyczące sektora biogazu oraz scharakteryzowano technologie produkcji biogazu. Artykuł zgłębia również kluczowe dla biogazu aspekty jak: opłacalność, czy oddziaływanie na środowisko w tym również redukcji emisji CO2. Stwierdzono, iż pomimo wielu problemów, realną szansę na poprawienie sytuacji sektora biogazu w Polsce stwarza wejście w życie ustawy o OZE.
    The article presents the situation of the biogas sector in Poland. It touches also the areas such as Renewable Energy Sources law and biogas production technology. The article also penetrates key aspects like profitability, attractiveness or influence on environment, like the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. The conclusion is that despite many problems, the Renewable Energy Sources Act that is to come into effect, creates a real opportunity for improvement of the Polish biogas sector.

    Opis:
    Under Directive 2002/49/EC relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise, all European countries are obliged to model their environmental noise levels in heavily populated areas. Some countries have their own national method, to predict noise but most have not created one yet. The recommendation for countries that do not have their own model is to use an interim method. The Dutch SRM II scheme is suggested for railways. In addition to the Dutch model, this paper describes and discusses 3 other national methods. Moreover, discrepancies between the HARMONOISE and IMAGINE projects are analysed. The results of rail traffic noise measurements are compared with national methods.
