    Tematem podjętym w niniejszym artykule jest delimitacja jednostek krajobrazowych oraz wstępne określenie cech charakterystycznych poszczególnych krajobrazów na przykładzie strefy podmiejskiej Wrocławia. W ramach badań stworzono trzystopniową strukturę, w której wyodrębniono 4 typy krajobrazu, 9 podtypów krajobrazu oraz 36 jednostek krajobrazowych. Każda z jednostek krajobrazowych została scharakteryzowana pod kątem jej elementów swoistych. Wyniki badań stanowią wkład w tematykę zarządzania krajobrazem oraz przybliżają problematykę aplikacji tych rozwiązań w skali lokalnej.
    The theme undertaken in this article is the delimitation of landscape units and pre-determine of characteristics of the different landscapes on the example of the Wroclaw suburban zone. The study created three-level structure in which 4 types of landscape, 9 subtypes of landscape and 36 landscape units were distinguished. Each of the landscape unit has been characterized in terms of its specific components. The results are a contribution to the topic of landscape management and discuss the problem of application of these solutions on a local scale.

    Opis:
    Land use and the landscape of the suburban area are strongly affected by the impact of a large city, which is an important factor determining their development. The paper presents the results of analyses of the functional and spatial transformations depending on the distance from city limits and main access roads. The analyses were based on CORINE data for the years: 1990, 2000 and 2006. The spatial transformations in the specified distance buffers were described with use of the indicator of the share of specific land use areas in the total surface area and the indicator of the average landscape patch surface area. The conducted analyses confirm that the spatial patterns characteristic for suburbanisation exist in the vicinity of large cities and along access roads. The phenomena noticed in the suburban zone of Wrocław include, among others, an increased share of surface area used for residential purposes, a decreased area of arable lands, and an increased concentration of commercial and industrial areas in the direct proximity of the city and access roads.

    One of the factors that contributed to the construction of approx.77 km2 offish ponds in the catchment of Barycz starting from the 13th century, which in turn transformed the woods into a mosaic of waters, forests and arable land, were the advantageous physiographic conditions. Fish farming operations conducted in this area led to the creation of a cultural landscape characterised by unique natural values, similar to the natural landscape. Approx. 240 species of birds are observed here, of which 170 are nesting species. Due to its natural values, this area has been subject to natural reserve protection as part of the Landscape Park “Dolina Baryczy” (the Barycz Valley). It was entered in the “Living Lakes” list and it is protected under the Ramsar Convention as well as under the European nature protection network Natura 2000. The established forms of nature protection mean the introduction of a certain binding regime, pursuant to which the economic activity conducted in protected areas must take into account the prohibitions and orders introduced by documents that establish the said forms of protection. Additionally, there is a legal requirement to create a protection plan or conservation plan that constitutes a basis for the realisation of conservation-related objectives. A commercial company Stawy Milickie S.A. (public limited company) operates in the area of this largest fish pond complex in Poland. The scope of its operations includes more than just the breeding and sale of freshwater fish (6500 ha of ponds) but also environmental protection, environmental education and the development of tourism as well as stimulating the development and professional activation of local communities basing on the natural resources that exist in the catchment of Barycz.This study presents the conditions related to fish farming operations conducted in this area. Conducting an extensive management (i.e. often uneconomical from the economic point of view) is a prerequisite for maintaining the biodiversity of this naturally valuable area. The conservation plan of the nature reserve “Stawy Milickie” (Milicz Ponds) contains a series of obligations and limitations with respect to fish farming. The development strategy of the Stawy Milickie SA Company takes into account all these conditions.

    Opis:
    The adaptation of urbanised areas to climate change is currently one of the key challenges in the domain of urban policy. The diversity of environmental determinants requires the formulation of individual plans dedicated to the most significant local issues. This article serves as a methodic proposition for the stage of retrieving data (with the PESTEL and the Delphi method), systemic diagnosis (evaluation of risk and susceptibility), prognosis (goal trees, goal intensity map) and the formulation of urban adaptation plans. The suggested solution complies with the Polish guidelines for establishing adaptation plans. The proposed methodological approach guarantees the participation of various groups of stakeholders in the process of working on urban adaptation plans, which is in accordance with the current tendencies to strengthen the role of public participation in spatial management.
