INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION
Opis:
Shaping learners’ intercultural competence has been slowly paving its way to a due rank in education. Developing intercultural competence results from familiarization with culture, which may take place in a direct or indirect way. What is essential here is the role of the teacher, who functions as a mediator between cultures. The presented study aims at indicating the growing significance of intercultural aspects of education in Europe - a united multiculturalness bothered by the crisis, as well as presenting (in reference to bilingual teaching) theoretical and practical solutions for intercultural education, providing inspiration for pedagogical practice. Bilingual teaching, as one of the most innovative forms of foreign language teaching, is a manifestation of practical implementation of the intercultural approach to education and it enhances shaping intercultural competence.

Opis:
What is focused on in the search for the mechanisms of constructing young people’s identity is the role and significance of the socio-cultural environment and formal and non-formal intercultural education, which supports individuals in the unceasing creation of their own Self, in understanding the world and organizing positive intercultural relations. In the theoretical framework of the undertaken considerations, the following concepts are referred to: J. Kozielecki’s concept of the multidimensional human, J. Nikitorowicz’s concept of constantly created identity, T. Lewowicki’s theory of identity behaviours, and M. Sobecki’s concept of identification profiles. The assumption is made that shaping the multidimensional identity of the young first of all requires cultural rooting, educational activities and the support of educational policy. Against the background of the research conducted systematically for 25 years among the youth from the Polish-Czech borderland, the dynamics is shown of shaping the young generation’s feeling of identity. Moreover, the intensity of identifications is diagnosed as well as young people’sidentification profiles, which provide information on interrelations between particularidentification dimensions in declarations of a person. Opis:
The presented paper is based on extensive multivariate studies conducted in some academic centres of Poland which differ in location (the centre - the borderland) and socio-economic potential. What prevails in the theoretical sphere are references to studies in the area of social psychology of development and to the idea of constructivism. The research results provide a lot of information on teacher education. On the basis of the conducted diagnoses, four dimensions of learning are indicated by the author (identity of the professional role, experiences in relations with the Other, practice, social participation) as well as the process of cogeneration. This constitutes a thought provoking material, which encourages changes in contents and methods (in the current model) of training teachers. Such an approach to teacher education seems appropriate and needed, in compliance with the critical-creative view on educational reality and striving for positive solutions to social (thus also educational) problems. The study enriches knowledge in the field of pedeutology, intercultural education, and some other areas of pedagogy (as a scientific discipline) and education (as a space of social life).

Opis:
What is referred to are the results of nationwide quantitative and qualitative studies conducted in several academic environments. The research constitutes the background against which the condition (the current health, inner intellectual and professional situation) of future teachers is shown as well as the determinants of their preparation for work in multicultural conditions. An authored multisided model of teachers’ education has been also presented. The research approach and interpretation of results have been subordinated mainly to social developmental psychology, the idea of constructivist understanding of individual and social development and intercultural education. In applying the constructivist approach, incorporated into pedagogy from other disciplines, the author’s proposal can be seen referring to constructivism with the aim of understanding experiences of adults. It should be emphasized that in the pedagogical literature this mainly concerns the knowledge of small children. The presented study provides a lot of new information and opens new prospects of further research on the border of intercultural education and general pedagogy, pedeutology, several sub-disciplines of psychology and sociology, as well as of other fields of broadly understood humanities, which can enhance the development of intercultural pedagogy.

Opis:
The basic notional category and the leading motif of the presented study is social experience of candidates for teachers. The reflection is grounded on the social psychology of development in the context of the reality experienced by the individual, the meanings applied to experiences (Tyszkowa, Przetacznikowa, Brzezińska), and in the perspective of intercultural education (Lewowicki, Nikitorowicz). In the undertaken discussion, the author refers to the results of extensive multivariate research conducted in 2011–2012 in several academic environments which differ in location (the centre – the borderland) and in socio-economic potential. This constitutes the background against which the determinants are indicated of preparing future teachers for work in multicultural conditions.

Opis:
In the undertaken discussion, the attention is drawn to the possibilities of fulfilling orientation needs, shaping life orientations and constructing identities by committed, active people who work for others. The author focuses on the scarcely known and described (in Poland) phenomenon of international foreign short-term voluntary service – workcamp. Its significance for the participants is also emphasized – in regard to both discovering the sense of life and promoting the idea of global peace, tolerance, respect and international dialogue, which constitute the aims and tasks of intercultural education.
