- Contemporary terrorism is a real threat to security in the national, regional and global dimensions. Poland also identifies terrorism as a phenomenon that must be prevented and combated. There is an anti-terrorism system in Poland, and a dedicated act has been implemented in this area. The aim of the article is to initiate a discussion and to propose initial solutions in connection with the functioning of a number of unspecified basic concepts in the area of terrorism in the Polish law and the doctrine of security sciences. The initial situation in this case is not very clear. There are many definitions and concepts that are not fully explained, and some of them are used contrary to the rules of language. The authors of the text analyse, inter alia, the concepts of anti- and counter-terrorist activities and anti-terrorist security. Scientifi cconsiderations are based on a review of the literature, legal acts and the opinions of scientific experts. All the collected material and conclusions constitute the starting point for further deliberations as part of the scientific discourse.
