    Opis:
    Healing traditions are very likely to have roots in the beginnings of any civilisation, which comes from the natural needs of a human striving for physical and mental comfort. On ethnically Polish lands, medical culture developed together with the society, which is reflected in the names of healers. The linguistic and cultural image of a doctor is affected by the anthropocentric experiences of speakers of Polish, stereotypes and the media that strengthen its versions, all recorded in the lexis, phraseology and paremiography. Today (according to the survey), negative traits of doctors (31) are significantly more common than their virtues (9) that include: being specific, accurate, efficient, devoted to duty and caring. According to the survey, today’s doctor is, most of all, in a hurry, overworked and tired, but also dissatisfied, uninterested in the patient, impatient, late, cold and always angry. People’s focus on doctors’ negative traits has been a permanent phenomenon for centuries.

    Pamiętnik Wacławy by E. Orzeszkowa is a novel presenting the fate of a young woman in a twofold reality: at first, it is assigned to the drawing room and social life; then, in the second stage, to a study. An important role in the linguistic creation of Wacława’s fate is played by the parents: mother – the parlor lady, father – researcher, university professor. The construction of these characters reflects the two different worlds that a young woman explores in order to ultimately choose the latter. The language (style, lexis, syntax) corresponds with the creation of Wacława as a spoiled miss (in the first volume) and a mature young lady (in the second volume).

    Opis:
    The analysis of 694 proverbs selected from widely accessible collections allows their classification into semantic fields ranging from names of foods, ways of eating, the necessity and urge to eat as well as the effects of eating, to the rules of eating and conduct during meals. Most of the proverbs analysed refer to actual situations (ca. 84%); the remaining (ca. 16%) include metaphors that illustrate or codify social behaviours and their consequences. Proverbs registered in the 19th century written Polish language constitute over a half (52,4%) of the data, while those from the 20th century amount to over one fourth (26,3%). The rest (26,3%) is dated as coming from the 15th–18th century. Over 72% of the proverbs analysed are syntactically complex with regular sound instrumentation and about 28% are syntactically simple. The analysis brings out a very important need to regulate the rules of the eating process and of conduct while eating, as well as the significance of healthy nutrition.

    Fathers, step-father, caregivers in the ‘upon the Niemen’ novels by Eliza Orzeszkowa are fi gures clearly outlined. Their creations are made also by the means of color, light and shadow. Writer, creating the characters of fathers, stepfather and caregivers operates with the color subtly and sparingly, especially in the description of their clothes and bodies. Names, defi nitions of glow, light and shadow are the components serving the verbalization and dynamization of feelings, experiences and behaviors, as well as descriptions of the personality in the characteristics of characters. Creation of men are also served by the background and the environment color, which is a typical aspect of the novel design by Orzeszkowa.

    The analysis of the content of Eliza Orzeszkowa’s epic On the Banks of the Neman allows to distinguish the following different types of mother created by the writer: the Polish Mother, Mother-Kitten, Mother-Cuckoo, Distant Mother, and Mother Willow. Wisely devoted to her children, Maria Kirłowa is the Polish Mother type: she runs her farm all by herself, is a keeper-at-home, and, being a single mother, brings her children up to function well in the society of the second half of the twentieth century. Another mother, the proud patriot Mrs Andrzejowa Korczyńska, constitutes a monumental character. As a widow living up to her ideals she is – as it may seem – a woman to follow, but, alienated from her environment, she fails. Her son takes advantage of her knowing that his mother will do anything for him, like mother kitten. Starzyńska is the Mother-Cuckoo; she abandons her children, Janek and Antolka, to be brought up by someone else. The reason is that this woman’s need to re-marry is stronger than her maternal feelings. Selfcentered Emilia is the Distant Mother, that is to say one that is absent from the process of her children’s development. Emilia’s role of Witold and Leonia’s mother is taken over by Marta, who, as Mother-Willow, brings them up, feeds them, teaches, comforts, spoils, but also sets requirements, cares, and, fi rst of all, is always there for them. In the complex reality of the second half of the twentieth century the situation of the Polish women was quite diffi cult, also in the maternal duties they fulfi lled; those were perceived and realized very differently by different mothers, which we fi nd notably refl ected in the realistic novel On the Banks of the Neman by Eliza Orzeszkowa.

    In her novel, Meir Ezofowicz, the author provides an insight into the social and culturalreality of a Jewish borderland town in the second half of the 19th century. The fourJewish families featured in the novel come from diverse cultural, socio-economic, andreligious backgrounds. The linguistic images created by Orzeszkowa reflect the stereotypicalperception of reality, and, at the same time, condemn all anti-social behaviour,including that observed within the Jewish diaspora community.

    Celem artykułu jest analiza rozwoju badań nad językową kreacją świata w tekście artystycznym, zaliczanym do liryki bądź epiki, oraz próba wskazania kierunków badawczej ewolucji na podstawie treści publikacji, założonych w nich i zastosowanych rozwiązań metodologicznych oraz osiąganych efektów. Analizie w niniejszej próbie poddano zarówno teksty (artykuły, monografie) ze wskazanym w tytule – pod hasłem językowa kreacja świata – zakresem badawczych poszukiwań, jak i takie, których tytułowy zapis o zmodyfikowanej treści oraz cele zapowiadają interesujące nas badania. Analiza ponad trzydziestu wyekscerpowanych publikacji, ich podobieństw metodologicznych i różnic, pozwoliła na wskazanie trzech obecnie nurtów badań: tekstowo-stylistycznego, strukturalno-semantycznego oraz kognitywistycznego.
    The aim of the paper is to analyse the development of research on linguistic creation of the world in artistic writing, both in poetry and prose, and to attempt to show the lines of research evolution on the basis of research papers, their methodologies and achieved results. The research material consists of both texts (articles and monographs) that indicate its scope by using the phrase linguistic creation of the world in their titles as well as those whose modified title and goals suggest that they are of interest to the current study. The analysis of more than 30 selected publications and their methodological similarities and differences, allows to distinguish between three current lines of research, i.e. textual-stylistic, structural-semantic and cognitive.
