Neben vielen anderen Charakterisierungen, etwa ‚Jahrhundert der Diktatoren‘, ist für das 20. Jahrhundert wahrscheinlich auch die Formulierung ‚Jahrhundert der Angst‘ gerechtfertigt. Dieser Beitrag ist ein erster Versuch, die Darstellung von Angst in verbal-piktoralen Narrativen zu erschließen. Text- und Bildspuren zu Angst – politisch genutzte Techniken der Angsterzeugung einerseits und bis zu dauerhafter Traumatisierung gehende Angsterfahrung andererseits – sind in vielen Graphic Novels zur Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts ein wesentliches Deutungsangebot. Obwohl ästhetisch und intellektuell anspruchsvoll, somit ein Angebot zur Aufarbeitung von Geschichte, ist diese Fokussierung von Angst der Forschung bislang entgangen. Diese Untersuchung betrifft erlebte und erlittene Geschichte vom Ersten Weltkrieg bis zur Wendezeit um 1989. In einer Auswahl von fünf Graphic Novels deutscher, französischer, polnischer und tschechischer Experten des Genres, bieten gerade die Bildspuren atmosphärische Dichte, Genauigkeit und zugleich Offenheit für weitere Interpretation.
Dla XX wieku, obok wielu innych określeń, jak np. ‘stulecie dyktatorów’, można uznać za właściwe sformułowanie ‘stulecie strachu’. Niniejszy artykuł jest pierwszą próbą opisu tematyki strachu w narracjach tekstowo-graficznych. Ślady tekstowe i graficzne dotyczące strachu – począwszy od politycznie wykorzystywanych technik wytwarzania strachu, a kończąc na doświadczeniu strachu prowadzącym do trwałej traumatyzacji – stanowią jedną z głownych treści znaczeniowych w powieściach graficznych na temat historii XX wieku. Będąc estetycznie i intelektualnie wymagającym zagadnieniem – jako oferta do przerabiania historii – temat strachu nie był do tej pory przedmiotem badań naukowych. Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy przeżywanej i doznawanej historii od I wojny światowej do przełomowego roku 1989. W dokonanym wyborze pięciu noweli graficznych autorstwa niemieckich, francuskich, polskich i czeskich twórców ślady graficzne oferują atmosferyczną zwartość, dokładność i pole do dalszych interpretacji.
Next to many other characterizations, e.g. ‘century of dictators’, the wording ‘century of anxiety’ is probably likewise justified for the Twentieth century. This contribution is a first attempt at inquiring into the presentation of anxiety in verbal-pictorial narratives. Verbal and pictorial traces of anxiety (fear) – i.e. techniques of causing anxiety (fear) for political ends on the one hand and experience of anxiety (fear) on the other hand – are a substantial meaning making offer in many graphic novels on the history of the 20thcentury. Though esthetically and intellectually demanding, hence an offer of reappraisal of the past, so far, the topic of anxiety (fear) has escaped the attention of research projects. This study concerns history experienced and endured from World War One to the time of change around 1989. In a choice of five graphic novels by German, French, Polish and Czech experts of the genre, especially pictorial traces of Angst offer atmospheric density, precision and, at the same time, openness for further interpretation. - Źródło:
