Opis:

Paul’s theology (the key)
participation (in Christ)
new creation (in Christ)
Opis:
The Author of the paper looks for a key to the theological thought of the Apostle Paul. The fact that it lacks a clear definition results in authors radically differing in their perception, for instance, regarding the relationship between the Old and the New Testament, and as a result, whether or not the Old Testament has a decisive influence on the Pauline thought, continuing along this line: whether the Apostle in his view always remained a Jew, or whether he distanced himself from Judaism. The fact that we do not have a category clearly defining the relationship between the Old and New Testament salvific reality results in an abundance of contradictory opinions. That is also transferred to other areas of the Pauline theology. The interpretation of Paul’s theology tends to be determined by preconceptions, built upon various ways of understanding the significance of the Old Testament, or various relationship to Judaism and its thought. The author of the paper indicates a concept, treated as marginal by scholars, of a new creation in Christ as the key to understanding the Pauline thought. It lays in the background of all themes treated by Paul and connects them into a single, coherent entity.

Opis:
The author seeks to verify the hypothesis that Paul wrote the Letter to the Philippians in Ephesus. First he proves that the apostle was there a prisoner, then that the traditional view, the Roman hypothesis, poses some difficulties. The author analyzes the circumstances in Phil, pertaining to Paul, and checks any possible cases (ie sites) in which they could have taken place. Only in the case of Ephesus that the circumstances from Phil can be confirmed by other sources. The author presents some reasons in favour of Ephesus. At the same time he proves that even though there is no mention in Phil about the money raised on behalf of the poor in Jerusalem, and Paul’s collaborators are absent, the Ephesus’ hypothesis can still be defended. These facts even speak in favour of it. The author situates Paul’s prison in Ephesus. The Phil was written during the summer of the last but one year of the apostle’s sojourn in this town. It was several months before the Letter to the Corinthians was written in the autumn of the same year.

Opis:
The subject of the article is the information in II Cor 1,15-16, according to which Paul did not put into effect the visit to the Corinthians that he had foretold. In the contemporary biblical studies there are two fundamental opinions on the degree to which the visit was not executed: 1) the Apostle did not make the foretold visit at all; 2) he made only half of it, that is from Corinth he went to Macedonia, but he did not return to Corinth as he had announced earlier. A verification of the two opinions leads to the conclusion that the latter one meets with objections that raise serious doubst; the former one does not create such difficulties and seems more plausible.

Opis:
The contribution undertakes the problem of the season of the year, when St Paul wrote 1 Cor. Among the authors the opinion prevails that it was in the spring months. The author of the article first analyses the events that happened between 1 Cor and the probable leaving Ephesus by Paul (cf. 16, 8); then − how long they lasted: the sea voyage between Ephesus and Corinth that he had to go on a few times. This leads to the conclusion that the hypothesis of ’spring’ is possible only if the Apostle left Ephesus later than on the feast of Quinquagesima. Besides this the author of the article gives two reasons why 1 Cor must have been written in the autumn of the last but one calendar year of Paul’s stay in Ephesus. The first of them is based on an analysis of the course of collection for the poor in Jerusalem, whose beginning is shown in 1 Cor 16, 1-3. The second reason follows from an analysis of the Apostle’s plans in 16, 8-9, which text is an explanation why the stay in Ephesus was prolonged; under different circumstances he would leave the town sooner.

relationship between Titus and Luke
Opis:
The author verifies Ramsay and Souter’s suggestion – put forward more than a hundred years ago – that Luke and Titus, Paul’s collaborators, were brothers. They came to this conclusion because there is no mention of Titus in the Acts. To verify the proposition the author conducts a study of Titus’ historical position in Paul’s mission and then of his significance as compared to that of the apostle’s other associates in the Acts. The conclusion may be reached that making no mention of Titus in the Acts is not accidental. The only reason for this that can be justified is the same one that made Luke, the author of the Acts, pass in silence over his own person. On this basis we find that the reason of not mentioning Titus is in the same relation to the work as to its author, that is in the close relation between Paul’s two collaborators. Ramsay and Souter’s specific suggestion that Titus was Luke’s brother does not find confirmation, but it points to the direction in which to look for a solution to the problem, that is to a certain relationship between them.

Scholarsdiffers considerably in this subject that results in sometimes extremelyopposed views on the degree the old and new covenants are related to eachother as well, as on to the degree Paul himself was linked to Judaism afterhis conversion. So far answers given by scholars focus on main themes ofPaul’s Epistles (eschatology, soteriology and so on) or emerge from previouspresumptions on Judaism, but not mainly from the Epistles themselves. The present article points at the concept of the new creation in Christwhich is the background of all themes treated by Paul and links them inone coherent entity.

Opis:
The author of the article tries to determine the years of St Paul’s first mission to Corinth. In order to do this he presents a review of the state of research from which it follows that 50- 51 AD is the most often mentioned year. However, there are opinions that the Apostle came to Corinth for the first time at the beginning of the forties. The difference in the opinions results from the two premises on which the above datings are based: the time of Gallio’s proconsulate and expulsion of Jews from Rome at the time of Claudius. Analysing the above historical facts the author comes to the conclusion that the year of expulsion of Jews from Rome (41 or 49) is not unequivocally determined, and hence dating St Paul’s first mission to Corinth as the beginning of the forties is doubtful. The time of Gallio’s proconsulate in the years 51-52 should be considered a sure base for the chronology of St Paul. Since he came to Corinth more than a year before Gallio took office, his first mission to that town would last from February/March 50 to August/September 51. Defining the Apostle’s stay in Corinth also allows pointing to the moment of the beginning of his journey that brought him to the capital of Achaia. Evangelising the previous centres took Paul at least two years, so he set off from Antioch no later than spring 48; however, it is more probable that it happened a year earlier.
