Opis:
Calculations were made to investigate the anharmonic properties of lead chalcogenides PbS, PbSe and PbTe at elevated temperatures by means of primary physical parameters viz. nearest-neighbour distance and hardness parameter using long- and short-range potentials. Higher-order elastic constants are computed up to their melting temperature for these crystals. The first order pressure derivatives of second- and third-order elastic constants, the second-order pressure derivatives of second-order elastic constants and partial contractions are also evaluated at different temperatures. As the experimental elastic constants are not available at high temperatures, hence our results were only compared with the available values obtained at room temperature. The nature of the elastic behaviour in these compounds was analyzed.

Opis:
Soret driven ferrothermoconvective instability in multi-component fluids has a wide range of applications in heat and mass transfer. This paper deals with the theoretical investigation of the effect of temperature dependent viscosity on a Soret driven ferrothermohaline convection heated from below and salted from above subjected to a transverse uniform magnetic field in the presence of a porous medium. The Brinkman model is used in the study. It is found that the stationary mode of instability is preferred. For a horizontal fluid layer contained between two free boundaries an exact solution is examined using the normal mode technique for a linear stability analysis. The effect of salinity has been included in magnetization and density of the fluid. The critical thermal magnetic Rayleigh number for the onset of instability is obtained numerically for sufficiently large values of the buoyancy magnetization parameter M1 using the method of numerical Galerkin technique. It is found that magnetization and permeability of the porous medium destabilize the system. The effect of temperature dependent viscosity stabilizes the system on the onset of convection.

Opis:
The CPU-GPU combination is a widely used heterogeneous computing system in which the CPU and GPU have different address spaces. Since the GPU cannot directly access the CPU memory, prior to invoking the GPU function the input data must be available on the GPU memory. On completion of GPU function, the results of computation are transferred to CPU memory. The CPU-GPU data transfer happens through PCIExpress bus. The PCI-E bandwidth is much lesser than that of GPU memory. The speed at which the data is transferred is limited by the PCI-E bandwidth. Hence, the PCI-E acts as a performance bottleneck. In this paper two approaches are discussed to minimize the overhead of data transfer, namely, performing the data transfer while the GPU function is being executed and reducing the amount of data to be transferred to GPU. The effectiveness of these approaches on the execution time of a set of CUDA applications is realized using CUDA streams. The results of our experiments show that the execution time of applications can be minimized with the proposed approaches.
