Opis:
Organic geochemical studies were carried out on the sulphate–shale–carbonate series, representing the upper PZ1 and lower PZ2 sections of the Zechstein cycles in the Kłodawa Salt Structure, located in the central part of the Zechstein Basin, in Poland. Hydrocarbons extracted from the Na1 and Na2 rock salts, the A1g and A2 anhydrites, the Ca2 dolomitic anhydrite and the T2 shale-carbonate rocks were analysed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Homological series of the n-alkanes and chained isoprenes indicate the algal nature of the organic matter with the characteristic chemiistry of type II kerogen deposited under anoxic conditions. The molecular composition of other biomarkers (n-alkylbenzenes, steranes) as well as phenenthrene and dibenzothiophene and their methyl derivatives revealed the highest maturity of the hydrocarbons (level of advanced stage of the oil-window zone) in the upper part of the Stinking Shale. In the adjacent beds, a gradual decrease in the maturity of the hydrocarbons was observed both upwards and downwards in the stratigraphic sequence. The main source rock of the hydrocarbons is represented by the Stinking Shale deposits. The observed trend of vertical variation in maturity through the rock profile is explained as resulting from the continuous vertical migration of hydrocarbons, expelled during maturation from the Stinking Shale rocks into the underlying and overlying strata.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of sedimentological studies of Zechstein marine deposits occurring in the Wleń Graben, a tectonic unit located in the southeastern part of the North Sudetic Synclinorium (NSS; Western Sudetes, SW Poland). Owing to poor exposure, small thickness, and lack of palaeontological data, the stratigraphy and age of these rocks were determined solely on the basis of analogies with adjacent areas. New findings described here, including faunal remains (remains of bivalves, including Liebea sp.), geopetal structures, clastic fills of halite crystals, moulds and bioturbation, shed new light on the environmental interpretations of the Zechstein in this part of the NSS. It should be assumed that at least two types of deposit may be assigned to the marine Zechstein in the Wleń Graben area, namely sparitic and microsparitic dolomite (PZ3) and the overlying deposits of the heterolithic series (PZt). These deposits were formed during the late Zechstein transgression, when the study area was in the marginal southwesternmost part of a newly formed shallow-marine bay of the Polish Zechstein Basin. In the central part of the present-day Wleń Graben, a shallow-marine bay (lagoon?) was dominated by carbonate sedimentation. A north-dipping mud plain, periodically flooded by a shallow sea, occurred in the southern part of the area. The paper summarises the present state of research on Permian deposits in the Wleń Graben, the first comprehensive lithostratigraphic scheme is suggested, and a new concept of the palaeogeographic evolution of the area in the Early and Late Permian is proposed.

Opis:
The Zechstein Limestone of the Bonikowo 2 borehole is composed of limestone with varied dolomite content and is slightly thicker (3.4 m) than other supposed condensed sections in SW Poland. The microfacies (mostly bioclastic wackestones-packstones) are characteristic of open marine limestone deposited in deep shelf environments. The common occurrence of echinoids in all parts of the section, except close to its top, indicates no essential change in sea water salinity. However, the palaeotemperature interpretation of the highest δ18O value of calcite recorded in the Bonikowo 2 borehole (+0.32‰) indicates a temperature of 22.9°C when a δ18O of water = 2‰ is assumed. The δ13C and δ18O curves for calcite and dolomite are similar in shape, and their mean values are similar: +1.8 ±1.5‰ for calcite, respectively, and +1.9 ±2.3‰ and –4.3 ±2.4‰, –3.8 ±4.3‰ for dolomite. There is a recrystallized interval in the lower part of the section with both δ13C and δ18O values reduced. This may be regarded as an aerobic equivalent of the Kupferschiefer. The diversity and abundance of foraminifers is significant throughout the section studied; lagenids prevail, and this is considered to be due to the dysaerobic conditions throughout the duration of deposition of the Zechstein Limestone.
