    The purpose of this article is to present the life and work of a well-known and celebrated South African painter of German-Jewish origin – Irma Stern (1894-1966). The artist was one of the first painters from South Africa whose works fitted well into the expressionist trend. Irma Stern’s artistic development was influenced by numerous trips to Europe and her studies at German art schools and academies. Her African roots were another important source of inspiration for her. Stern, who travelled all over Africa (including South Africa, Zanzibar and Congo) created numerous portraits of its indigenous peoples surrounded by wild nature. In her works, she most often presented an idyllic vision of the African continent, but one whirling with life and dynamism, thus reflecting her personal views of Africa as a real ‘paradise.’
    Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie życia i twórczości znanej i cenionej malarki południowoafrykańskiej pochodzenia żydowsko-niemieckiego – Irmy Stern (1894-1966). Artystka była jedną z pierwszych malarek pochodzących z RPA, której prace dobrze wpisują się w nurt ekspresjonistyczny. Na rozwój twórczy Irmy Stern wpłynęły liczne podróże do Europy oraz studia w niemieckich szkołach i akademiach artystycznych. Ważnym źródłem inspiracji były też jej afrykańskie korzenie oraz liczne podróże po kontynencie afrykańskim (m.in. RPA, Zanzibar i Kongo). Malarka stworzyła liczne portrety rdzennych mieszkańców Afryki w otoczeniu dzikiej przyrody. W swoich pracach najczęściej prezentowała idylliczną, ale jednocześnie pełną życia i dynamiki wizję kontynentu afrykańskiego, co odzwierciedlało jej osobiste spojrzenie na Afrykę jako prawdziwy „raj na ziemi”.

    Opis:
    During the fifty year period of the second half of the 20th century the field of African Art History, as well as the forms of art studies and art exhibitions have changed considerably. This article considers the evolution of the idea of African identity in contemporary arts. I would like to examine the different forms of art representation and interviewing of African fine arts in the last three decades. In order to illustrate the dynamic changes in the European approach to African Art, it is simply enough to recall the famous remarks of Carl Einstein and Roy Sieber on that subject or William Rubin’s controversial exhibition Primitivism in 20th Century Art at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (1984). It seems that the visibly growing practice of engaging curators of African origin in the creation of exhibitions of modern African art, particularly as a strategy to incorporate the voices of those represented, is one of the most important aspects of the “curatorial turn” of the 21st century.
    W II połowie XX wieku podejście do historii sztuki afrykańskiej jako dziedziny naukowej jak też formy studiów artystycznych oraz wystaw tejże sztuki znacznie się zmieniły. Celem artykułu jest zobrazowanie ewolucji idei tożsamości współczesnej sztuki afrykańskiej poprzez prezentację sposobów ekspozycji tej sztuki w ciągu ostatnich trzech dekad. Aby pojąć dynamikę zmian w europejskim podejściu do sztuki afrykańskiej, wystarczy przypomnieć słynne uwag Carla Einsteina i Roya Siebera z I połowy XX w. na ten temat lub kontrowersyjną wystawę Williama Rubina w Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Nowym Jorku (1984), pt. Primitivism in 20th Century Art. Wydaje się, że obecnie proces przemian w postrzeganiu i prezentowaniu współczesnej sztuki afrykańskiej pogłębia się. Jednocześnie rośnie udział kuratorów pochodzenia afrykańskiego, co pozwala na stworzenie nowej strategii kuratorskiej – prawdziwego „zwrotu kuratorskiego” z początku XXI w., który pozwala odzyskać głos uprzednio jedynie reprezentowanym Afrykanom.

    In the recent years, the Internet has become an important source of information and also a place where tourists document their travels and share their experiences using social media. On the one hand, the activity of people on the Internet corresponds to the needs of information society and systematic digitalisation of contemporary tourism. On the other hand, the constantly broadening access to new technologies in various aspects of life is accompanied by negative phenomena like information or communication overload and digital addiction. Hence, the study of the needs of tourists in the use of social media while travelling was chosen as the objective of this paper. To achieve this objective, a focus group study was conducted. As it transpired, the opinions of the tourists were diverse, ranging from enthusiasm and interest through severe criticism.

    Celem artykułu jest prezentacja przeglądu najistotniejszych nurtów, jakim przez ostatnie stulecie podlegał tekst literacki o walorach wizualnych. Z punkt wyjścia przyjęto okres przełomu XIX i XX wieku, gdy pod wpływem działań artystów awangardowych (Guillaume Apollinaire, Stéphane Mallarmé) nastąpiły zmiany w postrzeganiu semantycznego znaczenia poezji, co doprowadziło do sytuacji, w której wizualna struktura tekstu stała się istotna (wspomniane zostały prace m.in.: F.T. Marinettiego, T. Czyżewskigo, L. Chwistka). Zainteresowanie nowoczesną typografią wykazywali w okresie tuż po I wojnie światowej i w międzywojennym okresie wielkiej awangardy artyści związani z dadaizmem i polską grupą „a.r”. Kolejny istotny moment we wzajemnych relacjach tekstu i plastyki to okres lat 60. XX wieku i „poezji konkretnej” (E. Gomringer, bracia de Campos czy S. Dróżdż, tworzący tak zwane „pojęciokształty”). W XXI wieku emanacja działań łączących ściśle poezję ze sztukami wizualnymi to literatura elektroniczna, czyli electronic literature, określana mianem cyfrowej lub HTML, oraz liberatura (K. Bazarnik, Z. Fajfer, R. Nowakowski).
    The aim of the article is to present a review of the most important trends that the literary text on visual values has been subject to in the last century. The starting point was the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when under the influence of avant-garde artists (Guillaume Apollinaire, Stéphane Mallarmé) there were changes in the perception of the semantic meaning of poetry, which led to a situation in which the text’s visual structure became relevant (the works of.in.: FT Marinetti, T. Czyżewski, L. Chwistek). In the period immediately after World War I and in the inter-war period of the great avant-garde, artists associated with dadaism and the Polish group “a.r” showed interest in modern typography. Another important moment in the mutual relations of text and visual arts is the 1960s and ‘concrete poetry’ (E. Gomringer, brothers de Campos and S. Dróżdż, creating so-called ‘conceptual shapes’). In the 21st century, the emanation of activities that closely connect poetry with visual arts is electronic literature, referred to as digital or HTML, and liberature (K. Bazarnik, Z. Fajfer, R. Nowakowski).

    Social and economic changes contribute to changes in the lifestyle of modern society, including as well the method of spending free time. City dwellers who, because of economic reasons, have to altogether resign from package holidays or just reduce expenses, are searching for an opportunity to relax in the countryside and towns located near their home. Therefore a phenomenon called staycation, which consists of visiting one's own city or its closest neighbourhood, is becoming more and more popular. Tourism products aimed at different groups of visitors are created in response to the changing needs and expectations of people. Local Action Groups are especially active in this field and in recent years they have run many projects concerning the creation of places attractive for a visit, relaxation and recreation. The purpose of the article was to present examples of tourism products created by these associations in Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The products presented in this article can be connected with the phenomenon of staycation and the current needs of dwellers concerning spending free time. Local cultural heritage and natural environment are becoming the basis for supralocal tourism products which allow promoting rural areas, little towns and outskirts of urban agglomerations.

    Celem artykułu jest poszerzenie badań nad historią i kulturą Konga w okresie nowożytnym poprzez analizę wybranych źródeł ikonograficznych związanych z tym obszarem geograficznym od schyłku XVI do połowy XVIII w. Dzięki silnej infiltracji Konga przez portugalskich i włoskich podróżników oraz zakonników, będącej skutkiem postępującej chrystianizacji kraju, zachowało się bardzo dużo różnego typu źródeł, co wyróżnia Kongo spośród innych państw Afryki Subsaharyjskiej. Przyjęcie i zachowanie chrześcijaństwa było dobrowolną decyzją polityczną kongijskich władców. Dokumenty poddane analizie zostały wybrane ze względu na swój przełomowy charakter, jak też wysoką wartość artystyczną. Kolejną przesłanką do zagłębienia się w ikonografię Konga może być próba poszerzenia odbioru kultury Afryki, zwłaszcza zaś próba porzucenia europocentrycznych sposobów opisywania świata. Artykuł jest bogato ilustrowany.
    The aim of this article is to support the study of the history and culture of the Kongo in the modern period by analysing selected iconographic sources related to this geographical area from the late 16th century to the mid-18th century. The main reason for doing so is the existence of a strong infiltration of the Kongo by Portuguese and Italian travellers and monks, which resulted from the progressive Christianisation of the country as a result of the political decisions of its successive rulers. A large amount of surviving documentation makes Kongo’s position unique in comparison to other sub-Saharan African countries. The documents analysed were chosen for their ground-breaking nature as well as their high artistic value. Another rationale for delving into the iconography of the Kongo may be to try to broaden the perception of African culture, especially the attempt to abandon Eurocentric ways of describing the world. The article is richly illustrated.
