Opis:
The studies on Zn, Pb and Mn content in the needles of Pinus silvestris and the surface layers of soil (0.0–0.2 m and 0.4–0.6 m) were conducted in 2010. The research stations covered residential areas, municipal parks, neighborhoods of busy streets, industrial establishments, waste dump sites and sewage treatment plants. The tests showed variability of the analyzed elements in the needles of P.silvestris and in municipal soils, depending on concentration of urban and industrial activity, road traffic and the depth of the examined layer of soil. The content of heavy metals in soil varied. Zn was character-ized by the highest variability, depending on the depth (50.3–52.4%), Mn slightly lower (38.5–42.2%), and Pb, the lowest (29.1–33.2%). It was evidenced that the values of the heavy metals enrichment factors of the needles are closely connected with concentration of the examined metals in the soil. Along with the rise of Zn, Mn and Pb content in the soil, the values of enrichment factors decreased. The strongest negative correlations were found in the case of Zn, both in 1-year old needles (r = -0.82, p<0.05), as well as in 2-years’ old ones (r = -0.83, p<0.05), slightly weaker in the cases of lead and manganese.

Opis:
The research was carried out in the S³owiñski National Park, in an area with 15 research stations in pine coniferous forests situtated at locations (1) inaccessible to tourists, (2) most frequently visted by tourists, as well as (3) in the vicintiy of parking lots. The analysed samples comprised surface generic levels (Ol, Ofh, A), above-ground material (shoots; leaves and stalks) and below-ground mateial (roots) of bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus). The performed analyses showed statistically significant Spearman's correlation coefficients for Zn content in the 'soil – stalk’ (r= -0,44, p<0,05, n=45) relationship and the ‘soil – root’ relationship (r= -0,52, p<0,05, n=45). Accordingly, there were significant statistical differences (U Mann-Whitney test) in zinc content in the ‘stalk – roots’ relationship and the ‘leaves – roots’ relationship. Furthermore, the obtained results reveal an excessive accumulation of Mn in V. myrtillus. The content of the investigated heavy metals in V. myrtillus shoots decreased in the following order: Mn>Fe>Zn>Cu.

Opis:
This study was carried out in the Słowiński National Park (SNP; northern Poland) in Scots pine forest stands. The aim of the research was to compare the accumulation of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, nickel, iron and manganese in needles of pines growing on in dry (Bs), fresh (Bw) and moist (Bw) habitats. The age of needles, soil moisture and the content of examined components in the soil were taken into account. Needles and soil samples were collected in September from 15 sites (Bs – 5, Bśw – 3, Bw – 7). The nitrogen was determined with Kiejdahl method, and the phosphorus by the molybdate method after digestion in the mixture of 98% H2SO4 and 30% H2O2. The content of K, Mg, Ca, Zn, Ni, Fe and Mn was assessed by atomic absorption spectrometry after digestion in the mixture of 65% HNO3 and 30% H2O2. The soils of SNP, developed from deep dune sands, were very poor in nutrients. The highest amounts of macro− and micronutrients were found in organic and humic levels. In mineral levels, the content of the ingredients decreased rapidly and in many cases was beyond the limit of determination. Extreme nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium deficiency was found in analysed needles, together with adequate amounts of magnesium, zinc, nickel, iron and manganese as well as an excess of calcium. Differences in the nutritional state of Scots pine in investigated habitats were apparent primarily in the sum of the components accumulated in the needles. Needles accumulated in total from 736.5 to 850.7 mmolc/kg of nutrients, with macronutrients ranging from 98.6 to 99.1%. The accumulation of macro− and micronutrients in the examined needles decreased in the series Bśw>Bw>Bs. Mn and Fe showed the largest share in the micronutrient pool. Zn and Ni were significantly less common. The comparison of the accumulation of macro− and micronutrients in the needles indicated that stands on Bśw have slightly better conditions for development under unfavourable soil and climatic conditions prevailing in the Łeba Spit than those in Bs and Bw habitats.
