This article focuses on the emigration/migration issue depicted in Polish literature written after the year 2000. The examples discussed prove that we aredealing with two variants in the depiction of emigrants’ experience. On the one hand, we can talk about a positive pattern where emigration is treated as an adventure, perceived as breaking free from the existing obligations and imposed rigours. On the other hand, one may find several negative patterns, in which emigration is a necessary evil. The author notices a clear gender difference in the presentation of the emigrant experience: male narratives tend to be more depressing, presenting the protagonists as degenerated and humiliated, while female authors drift towards “chick lit,” depicting their protagonists as developing professionally and emotionally.

Interviews gathered in this section present multilateral vision of Polish Philology, regarded from various perspectives, that concern both chances and risks that Polish Philology is facing at the moment, traditional and modern approaches as two angles shaping its identity, changes in scientific, didactic and legal organization of studies that have either already become (or will become in the nearest future) its part. Speakers also attempt to indicate the importance of closer cooperation between Polish philologists in Poland and abroad in the process of ‘reconstructing’ the faculty and discipline. Attention has also been paid to the Congress itself as the speakers attempt to answer the question whether it has reached its goals and which postulate raised during the Congress should be regarded as the most important one. In the interview with Professor Danuta Opacka-Walasek the issue of organizing PhD studies and challenges that those responsible for this level of education face at the moment has been discussed. Professor Włodzimierz Bolecki on the other hand discussed the changed imple-mented by the new Law of Higher Education and its consequences for Polonists.

The essay presents an overview of the most important and most interesting prose and poetry publications that appeared on the Polish publishing market in 2019. The past year belonged mainly to artists perfectly rooted in the readers’ awareness. Particularly appreciated were especially works with underlying autobiographical themes, revisiting the often difficult past to try to sort out the “here and now”, socially engaged books, and books that remind us about shortcomings of the communication code. The authors of the recommended books included: Justyna Bargielska, Konrad Góra, Ewa Kuryluk, Mikołaj Łoziński, Krystyna Miłobędzka, Wojciech Nowicki, Jakub Pszoniak, Dominika Słowik, and Paweł Sołtys.

The article presents the most important and the most interesting prose and poetry works published in 2011. Most of them were written by well known authors. Those that particular-ly deserve mentioning are Saturn. Czarne obrazy z życia mężczyzn Goya by Jacek Dehnel, Bornholm, Bornholm by Hubert Klimko-Dobrzaniecki, Książka by Mikołaj Łoziński, Ziarno prawdy by Zygmunt Miłoszewski, Włoskie szpilki by Magdalena Tulli and Drwal by Michał Witkowski. In poetry, the works by Konrad Góra (Pokój widzeń), Szczepan Kopyt (Buch), Marta Podgórnik (Rezydencja surykatek) and Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn-Dycki (Imię i znamię) were enthusiastically received by readers. Apparently, year 2011 confirmed quite stabile preferences of the readers, which resulted in appreciation above all such publications that grounded in ‘middle literature’ tended to hy-brid form, transgression of literary genres, artistic expressiveness. Works that received the warmest readers’ response were those dedicated to the identity problems or facing the de-mons of the past.
