    Cały okres powojenny aż do przemian ustrojowo-społecznych w końcu lat osiemdziesiątych ubiegłego stulecia był bardzo złożony i na długo zdestabilizował struktury wschodniego Kościoła katolickiego we wschodniej Europie. W związku z tym katolicka wspólnota wschodnia pod wieloma względami była postrzegana jako pewna odmienność wspólnotowa wewnątrz Kościoła rzymskiego. Ta forma recepcji obowiązywała m.in. w ówczesnej Polsce, gdzie miejscowych grekokatolików utożsamiano jedynie z zjawiskiem obrządkowym.

    Katolickie Kościoły wschodnie ze względu na swoje zróżnicowanie obrządkowe wnoszą odrębny wkład w całościowe dziedzictwo chrześcijańskie. Każdy obrządek wschodni emanuje samodzielnym i autentycznym zbiorem cech liturgiczno-kultycznych typowych dla określonego nurtu tradycyjnego. Posiadanie własnych przymiotów praktyki sakramentalno-rytualnej jest nieodłącznie związane z przywilejem działania Kościoła partykularnego i wpływa bezpośrednio na kształtowanie jego tożsamości. Jakkolwiek elementy zewnętrzne i obrzędowe w Kościele wschodnim spełniają rolę pomocniczą, lecz są one niezbędne i niezastąpione. Ich moc odziaływania przyczynia się najczęściej do pełniejszej integracji wspólnoty wiernych i jej zjednoczenia modlitewnego. Powoduje prawdziwe zespolenie tychże wiernych wokół idei jednego i rodzimego obrządku, który jawi się dla nich życiodajna siłą duchową. W artykule podjęto ważne aspekty formułowania się tożsamości obrządkowej w obrębie Katolickich Kościołów wschodnich. Wskazując zarazem na uwarunkowania duszpasterskie, które niekiedy wymuszają na wschodnich katolikach dostosowanie się do rodzaju eksperymentu obrządkowego.
    Eastern Catholic Churches, due to their ritual diversity, make a separate contribution to the overall Christian heritage. Each Eastern rite exudes an independent and authentic collection of liturgical and cultic features typical of a particular traditional current. Having your own attributes of sacramental-ritual practice is inherent in the privilege of the particular Church and directly affects its identity. Although the external and ritual elements in the Eastern Church play an auxiliary role, they are necessary and irreplaceable. Their power of influence usually contributes to a more complete integration of the community of the faithful and its prayer union. It brings about a real fusion of these faithful around the idea of one and native rite, which appears to them as a life-giving spiritual force. The article addresses important aspects of the formation of a ritual identity within the Eastern Catholic Churches. At the same time, he points to pastoral conditions, which sometimes force Eastern Catholics to adapt to the type of ritual experiment.

    The study presents selected aspects of the pastoral and writing output of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky. Obviously, they do not encompass or exhaust the complete range of his activity and genuine achievements during his ministry in the Greek Catholic Church. But it was not the purpose of this study to list all the accomplishments or to emphasize the general effect of the works of this outstanding hierarch of the Church. The overriding reason for bringing out Sheptytsky’s profile was the attempt to show him against the background of his epoch and its specific historical-religious circumstances, in order to draw attention to his stance as a person and Church hierarch in the context of essential historical challenges. The following issues are tackled: Sheptytsky’s impact on the shaping of organizational and spiritual matters of his Church, his initiation of the movement of renewal of the Eastern rite in the Eastern Catholic Church, his openness to cooperation and strengthening relations within the Christian communities. Last but not least, the author wished to accentuate the personal authenticity of the Metropolitan, who has not always been assessed in a reliable and objective way.

    Meletius Smotrytsky’s creative output is almost entirely of a polemical character, since this form and style of scholarly discourse was predominantly used in his times. This method of writing brought him both notoriety and fame. He is to be credited for permanently accommodating the developments of humanistic ideas in the early Baroque period. On the other hand, his changing ideological and religious attitudes, a phenomenon at that time widely regarded as completely natural, led to his recognition as a poet of historical-cultural idealism and religious self-awareness of the Russian people. For Smotrytsky, participation in the life of the Orthodox Church and the Kiev Catholic traditions was the basic principle of scholarly reflection. And owing to his influence this standard also defined the direction of polemical religious conceptions in the first half of the seventeenth century.

    Man understood as the image of God has an inalienable right and the ability to express his identity as a woman or as a man. This proves the ontological equality of a man and a woman, equally called to overcome the limitations of individual nature. The modern movements of women’s liberation efforts in the pursuit of freedom often lose sight of the basic sense of humanity. The result is sometimes their highly confrontational style of struggle for their own separateness and autonomy, leading to the achievement of an exclusive position and total opposition to the male form of leadership in community life. This seems absolutely strange to Jadwiga Zamoyska’s attitude. Meanwhile, today a woman, like a man, needs to rediscover the lost aspects of Christianity in herself, which would allow her to constantly remain in harmony with herself.
    Człowiek rozumiany jako obraz Boga ma niezbywalne prawo i możliwość wyrażania swojej tożsamości jako kobieta lub jako mężczyzna. Świadczy to o ontologicznej równości mężczyzny i kobiety, jednakowo powołanych do pokonywania ograniczeń związanych z indywidualną naturą. Współczesne ruchy tzw. wyzwolenia kobiet w dążeniu do wolności niejednokrotnie tracą z pola widzenia podstawowy zmysł człowieczeństwa. Skutkiem tego jest niekiedy ich wysoce konfrontacyjny styl zmagania o własną odrębność i autonomiczność prowadzący aż do zdobycia ekskluzywnej pozycji i całkowitego sprzeciwu wobec męskiej formy przewodnictwa w życiu wspólnotowym, co wydaje się absolutnie obce postawie Jadwigi Zamoyskiej. Tymczasem kobieta, podobnie zresztą jak mężczyzna, potrzebuje dziś odnalezienia w sobie utraconych aspektów chrystianizmu, które pozwoliłyby jej nieustannie pozostawać w zgodzie z samą sobą.
